The Paiute-Shoshone Indians of the Lone Pine Community of the Lone Pine Reservation (Timbisha (Shoshone) language: Noompai ) is a federally recognized tribe of Mono and Timbisha Native American Indians near Lone Pine in Inyo County, California. They are related to the Owens Valley Paiute.

Lone Pine High School is a public high school in Lone Pine, California. It is a part of the Lone Pine Unified School District. The district includes Lone Pine, Cartago, Darwin, Keeler, Olancha, and Pearsonville. It was established in 1916, making it one of the oldest active high schools in Inyo County. The first graduating class of the school was in 1920. The class of 2019 was the 100th graduating class in Lone Pine High School's history. It is the only high school in the Census-designated place (CDP) of Lone Pine.

Diaz Lake, elevation 3,674 feet (1,120 m), is located in the Owens Valley, just south of Lone Pine, California, United States. It covers 80 acres (32 ha).

Lone Pine is a census-designated place (CDP) in Inyo County, California, United States, located 16 mi (26 km) south-southeast of Independence. The population was 2,014 at the 2020 census, down from 2,035 at the 2010 census. The town is located in the Owens Valley, near the Alabama Hills and Mount Whitney, between the eastern peaks of the Sierra Nevada to the west and the Inyo Mountains to the east. The local hospital, Southern Inyo Hospital, offers standby emergency services. The town is named after a solitary pine tree that once existed at the mouth of Lone Pine Canyon. On March 26, 1872, the very large Lone Pine earthquake destroyed most of the town and killed 27 of its 250 to 300 residents.

The Alabama Hills are a range of hills and rock formations near the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada in the Owens Valley, west of Lone Pine in Inyo County, California. Though geographically separate from the Sierra Nevada, they are part of the same geological formation.

Mobius Arch is a natural arch in the Alabama Hills range in Inyo County, California. Its name comes from its similarity in appearance to a Möbius strip. The nearest settlement is Lone Pine. It can be accessed through a short loop trail. The arch is a part of the Alabama Hills National Scenic Area and its window is about 6.5 ft (2.0 m) tall. It is a popular subject with photographers and filmmakers due to its framing of Mount Whitney.

The Owens River is a river in eastern California in the United States, approximately 183 miles (295 km) long. It drains into and through the Owens Valley, an arid basin between the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada and the western faces of the Inyo and White Mountains. The river terminates at the endorheic Owens Lake south of Lone Pine, at the bottom of a 2,600 mi2 (6,700 km2) watershed. In the early 1900s, the Owens River was the focus of the California Water Wars, fought between the city of Los Angeles and the inhabitants of Owens Valley over the construction of the Los Angeles Aqueduct. Since 1913, the Owens River has been diverted to Los Angeles, causing the ruin of the valley's economy and the drying of Owens Lake. In winter 2006, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power restored 5% of the pre-aqueduct flow to the river by court order, allowing the Owens River Gorge, the river bed in the valley, and Owens Lake to contain a small amount of water.

Owenyo (formerly, New Owenyo) was an unincorporated community in Inyo County, California. It was located on the Southern Pacific Railroad 5 miles (8 km) north of Lone Pine, at an elevation of 3697 feet (1127 m). The town was abandoned in the 1960s, and all that remain now are a few traces of building foundations. There are no standing structures and no inhabitants in or anywhere near Owenyo, which remains on 21st century maps only as a reference point along the bleak, unkept and itself abandoned Owenyo-Lone Pine Road which runs about two miles east of, and running parallel with, Federal Highway 395. Owenyo's original townsite was half a mile (0.8 km) to the southeast on the Carson and Colorado Railroad. The town, whose name is a portmanteau of Owens and Inyo, was originally started by Quaker colonists in 1900. They sold out in 1905, when the Carson and Colorado Railroad arrived, establishing the town as a transfer point for freight to be carried by the narrow-gauge railway which began there, serving points southward. A post office operated at Owenyo from 1902 to 1905 and from 1916 to 1941. The town moved to its present location in 1910, and for a while was known as New Owenyo on that account.

Dolomite is an unincorporated community in Inyo County, California. It is located on the Southern Pacific Railroad 6.5 miles (10.5 km) south of New York Butte in the Owens Valley, at an elevation of 3674 feet (1120 m). Originally, in 1883, a siding on the Carson and Colorado Railroad, the town developed in 1885, when the Inyo Marble Company opened a quarry at the site. A number of Western films have been shot in Dolomite, including Sinister Journey (1948), From Hell to Texas (1958), Hell Bent for Leather (1960), An Eye For An Eye (1966), Nevada Smith (1966) and Waterhole No. 3 (1967).

The 1872 Owens Valley earthquake – also known as the Lone Pine earthquake – struck on March 26 at 2:30 a.m. local time (10:30 UTC) in the Owens Valley (California, along the east side of the Sierra Nevada), with the epicenter near the town of Lone Pine. Its magnitude has been estimated at Mw 7.4 to 7.9, with a maximum Mercalli Intensity of X (Extreme). It was one of the most powerful earthquakes to hit California in recorded history and was similar in strength to the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Twenty-seven people were killed and fifty-six were injured.

Manzanar (Spanish for "apple orchard") was a town in Inyo County, California, founded by water engineer and land developer George Chaffey. Most notably, Manzanar is known for its role in the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. It was situated on the former narrow-gauge railway line of the Southern Pacific Railroad 9 miles (14 km) north of Lone Pine, at an elevation of 3,727 feet (1,136.0 m). A post office operated at Manzanar from 1911 to 1914. Manzanar was a shipping point for the surrounding apple orchards before the diversion of water through the Los Angeles Aqueduct from the Owens Valley to Los Angeles. During World War II, the area was the location of the Manzanar War Relocation Center, where people of Japanese ancestry were held.

Reward was a mining site in Inyo County, California. It is located on the west side of the Inyo Mountains 9.5 miles (15 km) north of Lone Pine, at an elevation of 3865 feet (1178 m). A post office operated at Reward from 1900 to 1906. The town's name originates from a local mining company, Reward Consolidated Mining Co, who operated the gold and silver Eclipse Mine in 1878 at the site.
