Holston River

The French Broad River is a river in the U.S. states of North Carolina and Tennessee. It flows 218 miles (351 km) from near the town of Rosman in Transylvania County, North Carolina, into Tennessee, where its confluence with the Holston River at Knoxville forms the beginning of the Tennessee River. The river flows through the counties of Transylvania, Buncombe, Henderson, and Madison in North Carolina, and Cocke, Jefferson, Sevier, and Knox in Tennessee. It drains large portions of the Pisgah National Forest and the Cherokee National Forest.

The Weigel House is a historic house built in 1893 at 2721 Asbury Road in Knoxville, Tennessee. It is also known as the Monday House, or the Osborne House. The house was constructed in the late 19th century in the Queen Anne style. It was one of the better-known homes of the Weigel family, who immigrated from Germany in the 19th century and were prominent in the dairy business, both in East and North Knox County, for generations. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as "Monday House" since 2001.

Knoxville Downtown Island Airport or Knoxville Downtown Island Home Airport (ICAO: KDKX, FAA LID: DKX), often referred to as Island Home Airport, is a general aviation airport located approximately one-half mile east of downtown Knoxville, in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. This airport is included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015, which categorized it as a reliever airport. Although most U.S. airports use the same three-letter location identifier for the FAA and IATA, this airport is assigned DKX by the FAA, but has no designation from the IATA.

Asbury United Methodist Church, formerly known as Asbury Methodist Episcopal Church, South, is a historic church in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The Ramsey House is a two-story stone house in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. Also known as Swan Pond, the house was constructed in 1797 by English architect Thomas Hope for Colonel Francis Alexander Ramsey (1764–1820), whose family operated a plantation at the site until the U.S. Civil War. In 1969, the house was added to the National Register of Historic Places for its architecture and its role in the region's early 19th-century history. Francis Alexander Ramsey arrived in what is now Greene County in 1783, and shortly thereafter made a surveying trip down the Holston River, where he first identified the future site of the Ramsey House. Throughout the 1780s, he served as an official of the fledgling State of Franklin, and later served in various capacities in the governments of the Southwest Territory and the State of Tennessee. Ramsey's children included early Knoxville mayor, W. B. A. Ramsey, and early Tennessee historian and businessman, J. G. M. Ramsey, both of whom occupied the Ramsey House at various times. Due to their Confederate sympathies, the Ramseys fled Knoxville when the Union Army occupied the city during the Civil War, and the family sold the house in 1866. The Knoxville Chapter of the Association for the Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities (APTA) purchased the Ramsey House in 1952, and currently maintains the house and grounds as a museum.

Island Home Park is a neighborhood in Knoxville, Tennessee, United States, located in the southeastern part of the city along the Tennessee River. Developed as a streetcar suburb in the early 1900s, the neighborhood retains most of its original houses and streetscapes, and is home to the city's largest concentration of Bungalow-style houses. In 1994, several dozen houses in Island Home Park were added to the National Register of Historic Places as the Island Home Park Historic District. What is now Island Home Park was originally part of a farm, named "Island Home," established by Knoxville businessman and philanthropist Perez Dickinson (1813–1901) in the 1870s. The completion of the Gay Street Bridge in 1898 led to the commercial and residential development of the South Knoxville area, and the Island Home Park neighborhood was established the following year. For much of its early existence, Island Home Park was home to a number of professionals and managers involved in Knoxville's wholesaling trade and other industries. The campus of the Tennessee School for the Deaf developed adjacent to Island Home Park in the 1920s, and the Knoxville Downtown Island Airport developed on Dickinson's Island adjacent to the neighborhood during the 1930s.

WRJZ (620 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in Knoxville, Tennessee. It airs a Christian talk and teaching radio format and is owned by Tennessee Media Associates, headed by Thomas Moffit, Jr. The studios are on East Magnolia Avenue in Knoxville. By day, WRJZ transmits a 5,000-watt non-directional. At night, to avoid interference to other stations on 620 AM, WRJZ uses a directional antenna with a five-tower array. Programming is also heard on two FM translators: 99.5 MHz in Sevierville and 102.5 MHz in Knoxville.

Holston Hills Country Club (Holston Hills C.C.) is located in Knoxville, Tennessee. The clubhouse was built in 1927 and designed by the firm, Barber & McMurry. The golf course was designed by Donald Ross. Following its construction, it was recognized as the finest course in the state and hosted all the important regional events. Holston Hills C.C. is one of Ross's most famous designs and is widely considered to be one of the more untouched Donald Ross designs left in the United States. In 2010, Holston Hills C.C. was ranked no. 52 on the Golfweek top 100 classic courses in the United States. In 1968, Holston Hills hosted the Rebel Yell Open, a PGA Tour satellite event played opposite The Masters. The club also hosted another PGA Tour event, the Knoxville Invitational, for two years in the 1940s. Holston Hills lies beside the Holston River. As of 2016 Holston Hills Country Club is owned and operated by McConnell Golf. McConnell Golf is based in Raleigh NC.

Lake Forest is a neighborhood in Knoxville, Tennessee located in the South Knoxville area. The area covers south of Knoxville Downtown Island Home Airport, then along Island Home Avenue, Chapman Highway, West Red Bud Drive (later Sarvis Drive), Stone Road, Oliver Road, Neubert Springs Road, Martin Mill Pike to Ogle Avenue, Doyle Street, Maryville Pike, back to Chapman Highway, then Moody Avenue to Seveirville Pike, East Red Bud Road, and Gilbert Lane. The neighborhood is part of the Dogwood Trail as part of the Dogwood Arts Festival. Its ZIP code in 37920. South-Doyle High School is the main high school in this neighborhood.

WKCE (1180 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in Knoxville, Tennessee. It is owned by Loud Media and it airs an oldies radio format. The station is branded as 105.1 WKCE, referring to its FM translator's dial position. The studios and offices are on the fifth floor of the Sunsphere in Knoxville. WKCE operates at 10,000 watts by day, using a non-directional antenna. But because AM 1180 is a clear-channel frequency, reserved for Class A WHAM in Rochester, New York, WKCE must reduce power to 2,600 watts during critical hours and sign-off at night. The AM transmitter is located off Strawberry Plains Pike in Knoxville. Programming is heard around the clock on FM translator W286DT at 105.1 MHz in Knoxville.

The Colonel John Williams House in Knoxville, Tennessee, United States, was built in 1825–1826 by the slaves of Melinda White Williams, wife of Colonel John Williams, while he was away serving as Chargé d'Affaires to Guatemala for President John Quincy Adams. (Melinda White was a daughter of Knoxville's founder, James White.) The home is designed in the Federal style, with a noteworthy pediment with a fanlight at the roofline.Col. Williams was originally from Surry County, North Carolina. He was the fourth son of Colonel Joseph and Rebekah Lanier Williams. He served as Tennessee's Attorney General from 1807 to 1808, was a U.S. Senator representing Tennessee from 1815 to 1823 and was the hero of the Battle of Horseshoe Bend in 1814 (Jackson's first military victory.) His Senate career ended in 1823, when General Andrew Jackson won the seat. Colonel Williams also served as a trustee of East Tennessee College (now the University of Tennessee). Colonel Williams died in 1837, and Melinda died eight months later. Both are buried in the First Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The house and property were sold to Abner Jackson, co-owner of A.G. Jackson & Company, a dry goods store, in 1855. He owned the house until his death in 1869. Beginning in 1883 it was leased to the state of Tennessee for use as the Colored Deaf and Dumb School. The state purchased the building in 1885, and enlarged it. It was rehabbed by the state in both 1923 and 1948. In the latter it was turned into classrooms for students and was last used in approximately 1982. For many years it was vacant while adjoining buildings were used for the Sertoma Learning Center. After asbestos was found in those other buildings, Sertoma moved to other quarters and the state abandoned the property in 1991. The property was purchased by descendants of the former owners in 1998 and has been restored. The house and some of the original acreage is still owned by the descendants. The other land surrounding the home is owned by The First Tee of Greater Knoxville which operates an 18-hole par 3 golf facility, named Williams Creek Golf Course . In 1842, Williams' son, also known as "Colonel John Williams", built another Federal-style brick house in the vicinity that still stands, the Williams-Richards House at 2225 Riverside Drive.
