Bridlington and The Wolds (UK Parliament constituency)

The Borough of East Yorkshire was one of nine local government districts of the county of Humberside, England from 1 April 1974 to 1 April 1996. The district was created as North Wolds, but was renamed by resolution of the council on 1 February 1981 (the Borough of Beverley was renamed to include 'East Yorkshire' in its name the same year, leading to the borough's councillors accusing North Wolds councillors of "usurping" the name). North Wolds council had made an earlier attempt in 1973, a year before it formally came into existence, to be named "Bridlington and Yorkshire Wolds", however this was struck down by the Department of the Environment. The district was formed under the Local Government Act 1972 by the amalgamation of a number of areas formerly in the administrative county of Yorkshire, East Riding: namely the municipal borough of Bridlington, Driffield urban district, Driffield Rural District, Pocklington Rural District and most of Bridlington Rural District. The district was abolished in 1996, and merged into the new East Riding of Yorkshire local government district, which covers a much larger area.

Driffield was a rural district in the East Riding of Yorkshire in England from 1894 to 1974. It surrounded the municipal borough of Driffield. The district was created by the Local Government Act 1894. It picked up part of the Great Driffield Urban District when that was abolished in 1935 by a County Review Order made under the Local Government Act 1929. At the same time parts of the district were transferred to Driffield Urban District and Norton Rural District while gaining parts of Pocklington Rural District. It was abolished in 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972. The district was transferred to the new district of North Wolds in Humberside.

Little Driffield is a small village in the civil parish of Driffield, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated on the western outskirts of Great Driffield, to the west of the A614 road and south of the A166 road.

Elmswell is a hamlet in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 2 miles (3 km) north-west of the town of Driffield. It lies just to the south of the A166 road. It forms part of the civil parish of Garton on the Wolds. Elmswell Old Hall was designated a Grade II* listed building in 1966 and is now recorded in the National Heritage List for England, maintained by Historic England.

Driffield Castle is located in the town of Driffield, approximately 12 miles (19 km) north of Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire, England (grid reference TA 02372 58291). It was a Norman earthwork motte and bailey fortress which was founded by Hugh d'Avranches, 1st Earl of Chester. It was re-fortified in the 13th century. The motte was damaged by 19th century quarrying and houses have encroached on the bailey. The site listing in Historic England notes that excavations in the 19th century and in 1975 revealed the remains of a Roman occupation dating to the fourth century AD, underlying the motte. Driffield 19th century archaeologist John Robert Mortimer noted fragments of medieval swords, spears and silver coins. A reference to Driffield in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle suggests that this is also the site of a rare eighth century Northumbrian palace, and the site is known to have been part of the royal demesne from the 11th to 15th centuries AD. The castle and surrounding 2.33-acre site was sold at auction in 2011. Only earthworks now remain and the site is known as Moot Hill.

The Yorkshire Wolds are hills in the counties of the East Riding of Yorkshire and North Yorkshire in Northern England. They are the northernmost chalk hills in the UK and within lies the northernmost chalk stream in Europe, the Gypsey Race. On the western edge, the Wolds rise to an escarpment which then drops sharply to the Vale of York. The highest point on the escarpment is Bishop Wilton Wold (also known as Garrowby Hill), which is 807 feet (246 m) above sea level. To the north, on the other side of the Vale of Pickering, lie the North York Moors, and to the east the hills flatten into the plain of Holderness. The hills are separated by many dry dales, formed during the last ice age and where many springs rise. The largest town in the Wolds is Driffield, with other places including Pocklington, Thixendale and Kilham, the original 'capital' of the Wolds. The highest village on the Yorkshire Wolds is Fridaythorpe at 550 feet (170 m) above sea level. The market town of Beverley lies on the eastern slopes, along with the village of Molescroft. On 8 October 2024, Natural England launched a statutory and public consultation for proposed plans to designate part of the Yorkshire Wolds as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

Driffield Town Hall is a former municipal building in Exchange Street, Driffield, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The structure is now used as an annex to a local hotel.

Kelleythorpe is a hamlet in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England, it forms part of the civil parish of Kirkburn. It is situated in the Yorkshire Wolds on the A614 road near to its junction with the A164 road. It is situated approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) south-west of Driffield town centre. Kellythorpe Industrial Estate is at the north of the hamlet.

Driffield Show is a one-day agricultural show held in mid-July in the town of Driffield. The showground is located southwest of the town near Kelleythorpe, and hosts other events throughout the year such as a steam and vintage rally.As of 2017, the show is in its 142nd year and is the largest one-day agricultural show in Yorkshire.

Driffield, also known as Great Driffield (neighbouring Little Driffield), is a market town and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The civil parish is formed by the town of Driffield and the village of Little Driffield. By road, it is 53 miles (85 km) north-east of Leeds, 29 miles (47 km) east of York and 23 miles (37 km) north of Hull. Driffield, being near the centre of the Yorkshire Wolds, is named The Capital of the Wolds. According to the 2011 UK census, Driffield parish had a population of 13,080, an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 11,477. The town was listed in the 2019 Sunday Times report on the Best Places to Live in northern England.

Driffield railway station serves the town of Driffield in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is located on the Hull–Scarborough line and is operated by Northern, providing all passenger train services.

Driffield School & Sixth Form is a coeducational comprehensive school which is situated on Manorfield Road in Driffield, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The school has nearly 1400 pupils aged 11–18, who come from rural communities in the Yorkshire Wolds.
