Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia

First Battalion Virginia Volunteers Armory, is a historic armory building located in Richmond, Virginia. It was built in 1895, and is a two-story. Late Victorian style brick structure. It also is known as the Leigh Street Armory, the Monroe School, and the Monroe Center. It features four brick towers, two circular turrets, a rectangular tower over the center front entrance, and a square tower, with crenellation along the roof parapet. The interior was rebuilt after a fire in 1985, and a 1940s gymnasium removed in 1998. The building originally housed the armory for an African-American militia company until 1899. It then housed a school for African-American children until World War II, when it again was used as a reception center for servicemen of color. It returned as a school for Africa-American children until 1954 and desegregation. For a period it housed The Black History Museum of Richmond. It is the oldest of three identified African-American armories in the country. It is currently home to the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia, which finished construction in May 2016.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

Ebenezer Baptist Church, formerly known as the Third African Baptist Church, is a prominent Black church built in 1858 and located in the Jackson Ward neighborhood of Richmond, Virginia. The site location has a historical marker (marker SA-96). It is one part of the Jackson Ward Historic District, a National Register of Historic Places-listing since July 30, 1976.

The Richmond Adult Career Development Center is an alternative school located in Richmond, Virginia, United States, and is part of the Richmond Public School system. The ACDC was established in 1975 and is a non-traditional public school providing all age groups access to programs that may help satisfy certain aspects of their formal educational. The center is also the site of Richmond Alternative School which is the home school for regular high school seniors who will graduate with a standard or advanced high school diploma.

Jackson Ward, previously known as Central Wards, is a historically African-American district in Richmond, Virginia, with a long tradition of African-American businesses. It is located less than a mile from the Virginia State Capitol, sitting to the west of Court End and north of Broad Street. It was listed as a National Historic Landmark District in 1978. "Jackson Ward" was originally the name of the area's political district within the city, or ward, from 1871 to 1905, yet has remained in use long after losing its original meaning.

Gallery5 is an arts center, museum, gallery, venue, and community space in Richmond, VA. It is located at 200 West Marshall Street in Richmond, VA, in the historic Jackson Ward neighborhood. Gallery5 is housed in the original building of Steamer Company Number 5, which is the oldest firehouse in Virginia, dating back to 1867. This historic building has seen many incarnations; in addition to the original fire station the building has also served as a police station, a Fire and Police Museum, and a hot dog emporium. The gallery is a cornerstone participant in Richmond's monthly First Friday Art Walk, which takes place on the first Friday of every month and draws artists and art-enthusiasts in throngs to Downtown Richmond.

Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church is a historic African-American Baptist church located in Richmond, Virginia. The church was founded in 1867. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

Steamer Company Number 5 is a former Richmond fire station located at 200 West Marshall Street in Richmond, Virginia. Designed by Richmond City Engineer Wilfred Emory Cutshaw, the building has a triangular plan to conform to the shape of its lot at the intersection of Brook Road and Marshall Street. Constructed of brick on a foundation of granite ashlar and covered with stucco which was scored to simulate stone, Steamer Company Number 5 is a late example of the Italianate style. This is a decorative fashion the building shares with many houses in the surrounding Jackson Ward area it served as firehouse from 1883 to 1968.Built in 1883 to continue the function of fire fighting and police station for the Jackson Ward neighborhood begun in 1849 by a previous building on the site, Steamer Company Number 5 combines the unique local form of two-bow-front houses with municipal functionality. The late use of the Italianate style is typical of municipal schools and other buildings constructed by the city during the period. The style can be observed as late as 1896, in Richmond's Randolph Street School.The building is now home to Gallery 5, an arts center, and was the former home of the Virginia Fire & Police Museum, which covered Virginia fire and police history with collections include antique fire apparatus, historic photos, and artifacts dating from 1790 to the present.

The Baker Public School is a pair of historic school buildings at 100 West Baker Street in Richmond, Virginia. It consists of a small Colonial Revival brick building constructed in 1913 as an annex to an older (now demolished) building, and a larger 1939 Art Deco building built out of limestone and brick. The latter is in an arrow shape, with its main entrance set at an angle facing the corner West Charity and St. Paul Streets. The school served the African-American neighborhood of Jackson Ward (from which it is now separated by a highway) until 1979.The school was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.

The Fraternal Order of Eagles Building is a historic Fraternal Order of Eagles clubhouse located in Richmond, Virginia. It was built in 1914, and is a three-story, three bay by six bay, rectangular brick building in the Neoclassical Revival style. In 2005, the building was renovated into apartments with a commercial space in the basement.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

St. Luke Building is a historic office building located in Richmond, Virginia. Built in 1902–1903, the St. Luke Building is located on a lot in the southeast corner of a block defined by St. James Street to the east, West Baker Street to the south, St. John Street to the west, and West Charity Street to the north. From the headquarters building, Maggie L. Walker oversaw operations of the Independent Order of St. Luke. Founded in 1869, the Order's mission to foster African-American economic independence was largely realized under the leadership of trailblazing African American businesswoman Maggie Lena Walker through enterprises housed in the St. Luke Building. The building also housed the St. Luke Herald newspaper, the St. Luke Educational Fund, the St. Luke Penny Savings Bank, and the St. Luke Emporium. Walker was the first African American woman to found a bank in U.S. history, and she leveraged her entrepreneurial success to advocate for African Americans’ civil rights. The office of Maggie L. Walker has been preserved as it was at the time of her death in 1934.The building was first listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site is a United States National Historic Landmark and a National Historic Site located at 110½ E. Leigh Street on "Quality Row" in the Jackson Ward neighborhood of Richmond, Virginia. The site was designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark in 1975. The National Historic Site was established in 1978 to tell the story of the life and work of Maggie L. Walker (1867-1934), the first woman to serve as president of a bank in the United States. It was built by George W. Boyd, father of physician, Sarah Garland Boyd Jones. The historic site protects the restored and originally furnished home of Walker. Tours of the home are offered by National Park Service rangers.

The Richmond Arts and Culture District stretches from the Institute for Contemporary Art on West Broad to the Virginia State Capitol and spans the Monroe Ward and Jackson Ward neighborhoods. The Arts District was designed to be the center of artistic, cultural, civic, and commercial activity. This district has worked to promote economic prosperity in this area of Richmond and create areas for art galleries and artist living spaces. This inclusive district offers a variety of experiences for all visitors and locals. The Arts District features and supports the history of the Jackson Ward neighborhood, the business activity along West Broad Street, the wide range of downtown art galleries, and eclectic dining and shopping experiences. The District is the first of its kind in the city of Richmond but state law allows there to be more than Arts District in each city. The Arts District is the home of the monthly First Fridays Art Walk. First Fridays is held the first Friday evening of every month, people are able to wander the Arts District and visit the art galleries and shops that are staying open late. The event features street performances, live music, gallery openings and special deals at stores.
