Steamer Company Number 5 is a former Richmond fire station located at 200 West Marshall Street in Richmond, Virginia. Designed by Richmond City Engineer Wilfred Emory Cutshaw, the building has a triangular plan to conform to the shape of its lot at the intersection of Brook Road and Marshall Street. Constructed of brick on a foundation of granite ashlar and covered with stucco which was scored to simulate stone, Steamer Company Number 5 is a late example of the Italianate style. This is a decorative fashion the building shares with many houses in the surrounding Jackson Ward area it served as firehouse from 1883 to 1968.Built in 1883 to continue the function of fire fighting and police station for the Jackson Ward neighborhood begun in 1849 by a previous building on the site, Steamer Company Number 5 combines the unique local form of two-bow-front houses with municipal functionality. The late use of the Italianate style is typical of municipal schools and other buildings constructed by the city during the period. The style can be observed as late as 1896, in Richmond's Randolph Street School.The building is now home to Gallery 5, an arts center, and was the former home of the Virginia Fire & Police Museum, which covered Virginia fire and police history with collections include antique fire apparatus, historic photos, and artifacts dating from 1790 to the present.

The Masonic Temple in Richmond, Virginia is a Richardsonian Romanesque style building built during 1888–1893, designed by Jackson C. Gott. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.It is a prominent building in downtown Richmond. Its NRHP nomination asserts that the building is the finest example of Richardsonian Romanesque style architecture in the state, and others have asserted that at its time of construction it was "one of the 'most magnificent examples of modern architecture in the South.'": 2 The design by Gott was one of 17 submitted in a design competition.The building was used for a 1905 function attended by U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt. It was used by the Masons until 1971. In 1982 the Richmond Foundation for the Arts acquired it with intended purpose of its serving as an arts center for the region.: 3 At some later date the building housed a catering venue, office building and apartments.

The Richmond Arts and Culture District stretches from the Institute for Contemporary Art on West Broad to the Virginia State Capitol and spans the Monroe Ward and Jackson Ward neighborhoods. The Arts District was designed to be the center of artistic, cultural, civic, and commercial activity. This district has worked to promote economic prosperity in this area of Richmond and create areas for art galleries and artist living spaces. This inclusive district offers a variety of experiences for all visitors and locals. The Arts District features and supports the history of the Jackson Ward neighborhood, the business activity along West Broad Street, the wide range of downtown art galleries, and eclectic dining and shopping experiences. The District is the first of its kind in the city of Richmond but state law allows there to be more than Arts District in each city. The Arts District is the home of the monthly First Fridays Art Walk. First Fridays is held the first Friday evening of every month, people are able to wander the Arts District and visit the art galleries and shops that are staying open late. The event features street performances, live music, gallery openings and special deals at stores.

Broad Street is a 15-mile-long (24 km) road located in the independent city of Richmond, Virginia, and adjacent Henrico County. Broad Street is significant to Richmond due to the many commercial establishments that have been built along it throughout Richmond's history. From downtown through miles into the suburbs, the street is largely dedicated to retailing and offices, including regional and neighborhood shopping centers and malls.

Monroe Ward is a historic neighborhood in Downtown Richmond. It is East of the Fan district and includes several apartment buildings, usually with VCU students living in them. Recently, VCU expanded its Monroe Park campus into the Monroe Ward with the Engineering East/Snead Hall building, as well as an under construction residence hall and parking deck. The historic Jefferson Hotel is located in the Monroe Ward. The culture-filled area is situated between the Fan area and Downtown.

Jackson Ward, previously known as Central Wards, is a historically African-American district in Richmond, Virginia, with a long tradition of African-American businesses. It is located less than a mile from the Virginia State Capitol, sitting to the west of Court End and north of Broad Street. It was listed as a National Historic Landmark District in 1978. "Jackson Ward" was originally the name of the area's political district within the city, or ward, from 1871 to 1905, yet has remained in use long after losing its original meaning.

The Richmond Adult Career Development Center is an alternative school located in Richmond, Virginia, United States, and is part of the Richmond Public School system. The ACDC was established in 1975 and is a non-traditional public school providing all age groups access to programs that may help satisfy certain aspects of their formal educational. The center is also the site of Richmond Alternative School which is the home school for regular high school seniors who will graduate with a standard or advanced high school diploma.

First Battalion Virginia Volunteers Armory, is a historic armory building located in Richmond, Virginia. It was built in 1895, and is a two-story. Late Victorian style brick structure. It also is known as the Leigh Street Armory, the Monroe School, and the Monroe Center. It features four brick towers, two circular turrets, a rectangular tower over the center front entrance, and a square tower, with crenellation along the roof parapet. The interior was rebuilt after a fire in 1985, and a 1940s gymnasium removed in 1998. The building originally housed the armory for an African-American militia company until 1899. It then housed a school for African-American children until World War II, when it again was used as a reception center for servicemen of color. It returned as a school for Africa-American children until 1954 and desegregation. For a period it housed The Black History Museum of Richmond. It is the oldest of three identified African-American armories in the country. It is currently home to the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia, which finished construction in May 2016.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

The Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia (BHMVA) is an American 501(c)(3) organization and museum established in 1981 and focused on the history of Black and African Americans in the state of Virginia. It is located in the Leigh Street Armory building at 122 West Leigh Street in the Jackson Ward neighborhood of Richmond, Virginia.

Moore's Auto Body and Paint Shop, formerly known as Standard Gas and Oil Supply Station, is a historic filling station located in Richmond, Virginia. The oldest section was originally built as a stable in 1875. It was enlarged in 1926. It is a one-story, stuccoed brick building in the Spanish Colonial Revival style. The structure has an irregular plan, with the northern facade formed in a crescent shape and the rest of the building in rectangular forms. The central section features heavy paneled stuccoed pilasters connected by a corbeled brick table and a paneled parapet. The building was used as a filling station until 1936, after which it was occupied by a series of automobile repair businesses.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
