Grand Sierra Resort (formerly MGM Grand Reno, Bally's Reno and Reno Hilton) is a hotel and casino located approximately three miles east of Downtown Reno, Nevada. The hotel has 1,990 guest rooms and suites, 27 floors, 12 restaurants, including Charlie Palmer Steak by celebrity chef Charlie Palmer, and a casino with 80,000 sq ft of space. GSR has a movie theater, a Race & Sports Book, nightclubs including LEX Nightclub, a 25,000 sq ft venue with a swimming pool, lake golf driving range, a two screen cinema, an RV park and a recently opened ice rink. It is owned and operated by Southern California based investment group headed by The Meruelo Group.

SNAFU Con is an annual three day anime convention held during October/November at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno, Nevada. SNAFU is an abbreviation for Sierra Nevada Anime Fans Unite. The event was created by the Anime and Manga Society of UNR, under the name Shadows.

The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony in Nevada was established in the early 1900s by members of related tribes who lived near Reno for work; they became a federally recognized tribe in 1934 after forming a government under the Indian Reorganization Act. With its base in Reno, Nevada, the RSIC consists of 1,134 members from three Great Basin tribes: the Paiute, the Shoshone and the Washoe. The reservation lands have been limited, consisting of the original 28-acre Colony located in central-west Reno (39°41′31″N 119°44′44″W) and another 1,920 acres put into trust for the tribe in 1984 in Hungry Valley, which is 19 miles north of the Colony and west of Spanish Springs, Nevada, in Eagle Canyon.In November 2016, the Barack Obama administration announced transfer of 13,400 acres of former Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land to the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony. This was achieved under the Nevada Native Nations Lands Act. It authorized the transfer of more than 71,000 acres of BLM and U.S. Forest Service lands into trust status for six Nevada tribes. This will provide the tribes with more sustainable bases for their peoples, as well as enlist other parties with an interest in conservation of animals and resources. The RSIC uses both traditional teachings and practices as well as contemporary business methods and governmental practices. The tribe employs more than 300 people, with around half of those being tribal members.

The Field Matron's Cottage, also known as the Stone Building, was built circa 1925 on the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony in Sparks, Nevada. The cottage was built to support a Bureau of Indian Affairs program to instruct the 20 acres (8.1 ha) colony's Paiute and Washoe girls in sanitation and housekeeping skills. A "field matron" was provided by the Bureau from 1919 to as late as 1938. At first the matron lived in Reno, at some distance from the colony, but in 1926 funding was made available to build a dwelling on colony lands, allowing a closer relationship between the matron and the colony's inhabitants. The cottage included a library and an infirmary, and served as a community meeting place.The cottage is built in the locally-unique Stewart Vernacular style, following the prototype established at the Stewart Indian School in Carson City. Many of the buildings at the Stewart Indian School were built using multi-colored native stone with black mortar. The style was locally influential, but the Matron's Cottage is the only example in the Reno area. The building's detailing and massing are similar to the Craftsman style, with a bungalow-like arrangement. The one story building has a full basement and a jerkin-head gable roof.The Field Matron's Cottage was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

Rail City Casino (formerly Plantation Casino) is a casino in Sparks, Nevada. It is owned and operated by Affinity Gaming. It contains 23,854 square feet (2,216.1 m2) of gaming space, with 896 slot machines, 7 table games, a keno parlor, and a William Hill race and sports book. Dining amenities include the Rail City Ale House and The Buffet & Cafe at Rail City.

Earl Wooster High School , or Wooster High School (WHS), is a public secondary school in Reno, Nevada that is a part of the Washoe County School District. Its mascot is the Colt and the school colors are scarlet, white, and silver. As of the 2010 school year, Wooster was ranked 177th on Newsweek magazine's list of the 1500 best U.S. high schools. It is currently part of the International Baccalaureate program.

Renown Regional Medical Center (formerly Washoe Medical Center) is part of Renown Health (formerly Washoe Health System), a non-profit hospital in Reno, Nevada. It is Renown Health's flagship hospital and the region's only level II trauma center. Renown Regional facilitates the area's only dedicated children's hospital, Renown Children's Hospital. The hospital was founded in 1876.

The Veterans Memorial Elementary School, also known as Veterans Memorial STEM Academy, at 1200 Locust St., is a public elementary school in Reno, Nevada, operated by the Washoe County School District. It occupies a historic Moderne-style building dating from 1949 that was designed by Nevada architect Russell Mills. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. It was deemed significant "for its role in the local history of education" and "for its Art Deco/Moderne style of architecture by a prominent local architect, Russell Mills.": 5 Students zoned to Veterans Memorial are zoned to Vaughn Middle School and Earl Wooster High School.

The Rainier Brewing Company Bottling Plant, at 310 Spokane St. in Reno, Nevada, was built in 1905. It was also known as Ice House Antiques and required $30,000 to build.

The Burke–Berryman House, at 418 Cheney St. in Reno, Nevada, is a historic house with elements of Queen Anne and Colonial Revival architecture. It was built c.1909-10 as a rental house in the "Burke's Addition" area of Reno, developed by Charles H. Burke.An early occupant was Samuel W. Goodale, a Chief Surveyor with the U.S. Survey Office, who lived there up to c.1917. It was sold to James J. Berryman in 1919 and he and his wife lived there from 1919 to 1934. It is one of relatively few houses of its era surviving in its neighborhood. It is now owned and maintained by the mental health company Zephyr Wellness.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. It was deemed significant "its role in Reno's community planning and development history" and "as an excellent local example of simplified residential Queen Anne/Colonial Revival architecture.": 8 

Coral Academy of Science is a charter school that serves grades 1–12. The elementary school is located on Valley Road, while the middle school is located on 1350 East 9th Street, and the High School on Neil Road, all in Reno, Nevada. Coral Academy of Science has many sister locations in Henderson, Nevada. The school is fully accredited by the Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC), formerly NAAS (Northwest Association of Accredited Schools) and now a division of AdvancED.

Nugget Casino Resort (formerly Dick Graves' Nugget and John Ascuaga's Nugget) is a casino hotel in Sparks, Nevada. It is operated by Marnell Gaming. The main portion of the casino consists of two 29-story towers nestled between Interstate 80 and the Union Pacific rail yard. There are additional attached buildings underneath and across I-80 from the towers. It is located in Downtown Sparks at the Victorian Square.
