Waltham is an inner suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand, located approximately two kilometres south-east of the city centre. State Highway 76, part of Christchurch's ring road system, and known there as Brougham Street, runs through the suburb, as does the Lyttelton Line rail corridor. Approximate boundaries of the suburb are Waltham Road, Moorhouse Avenue, Ferry Road, Ensors Road, and the Heathcote River. Waltham was originally part of the Sydenham borough and was incorporated into the City of Christchurch in 1903 when the borough was ended. In the early 1980s local residents and the Christchurch city council tried to name the western part of the suburb, Charleston, between Ferry Road and Ensors Road. This was done to maintain the residential nature of the area against perceived industrial expansion. The attempt was partly successful and that area today is referred to as both Waltham and Charleston. Alpine Ice Centre (also known as Alpine Ice Sports Centre) is an indoor ice sports and public skate centre, that opened in April 1985. It is located in the New Zealand city of Christchurch, in the inner-city suburb of Opawa. It is the current home venue of the Canterbury Red Devils in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League (NZIHL) and Canterbury Inferno in the New Zealand Women's Ice Hockey League (NZWIHL). The arena is the only operational indoor ice sports centre in Christchurch.

Opawa is an inner suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand, located 2.5 kilometres south-east of the city centre. The name is a contraction of "Ōpāwaho", which, in Māori, means a place of ('ō') an outer pā or outpost ('pāwaho'). "Ōpāwaho" or "Opaawaho" is the Māori name for the Ōpāwaho / Heathcote River.

Beckenham is an inner suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand, located three kilometres south of the city centre. The Ōpāwaho / Heathcote River winds through this predominantly residential suburb, a section of which is often referred to locally as the "Beckenham Loop". Beckenham is bounded by Sydenham to the north, Somerfield to the west, Cashmere and Huntsbury to the south and St Martins to the east.

Murray Aynsley Hill is a hillside suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand, located on the fringes of the Port Hills 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) south-east of the city centre. Situated above the suburb was Glenelg Children's Health Camp; the school for children with behavioural problems was closed by the Minister of Education, Anne Tolley, in January 2012. The suburb is named after early Christchurch settler Hugh Murray-Aynsley. The first owner of the land was Colonel Alexander Lean.

Huntsbury is a suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand, on the fringes of the Port Hills three kilometres south of the city centre. Huntsbury amalgamated with Christchurch City on 1 April 1941, on the same day as the New Brighton borough joined the city council.

Lancaster Park, also known as Jade Stadium and AMI Stadium for sponsorship reasons, was a sports stadium in Waltham, a suburb of Christchurch in New Zealand. The stadium was closed permanently due to damage sustained in the February 2011 earthquake and subsequently demolished in 2019. It was reopened in 2022.The stadium had been the venue for various sports including rugby union, cricket, rugby league, association football, athletics and trotting. It had also hosted various non-sporting events including concerts by Pearl Jam in 2009, Bon Jovi in 2008, Roger Waters in 2007, Meat Loaf in 2004, U2 in 1989 & 1993, Tina Turner in 1993 and 1997, Dire Straits in 1986 and 1991, and Billy Joel in 1987. However the stadium was primarily a rugby and cricket ground and was the home of the Crusaders rugby union team, who compete in Super Rugby. Its capacity was 38,628.

Te Pīhopatanga o Te Waipounamu (the bishopric of the South Island; also known as Te Hui Amorangi o Te Waipounamu, lit. the synod of the South Island) is an episcopal polity (or diocese) of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia based at premises at 290 Ferry Road in Christchurch. Te Pīhopatanga encompasses the South Island of New Zealand in its entirety and also Stewart Island/Rakiura and the Chatham Islands. According to the 2001 census there are approximately 15,000 Māori Anglicans within this area. Te Waipounamu is one of five pīhopatanga (episcopal units) that comprise Te Pīhopatanga o Aotearoa, the Māori Anglican Church in Aotearoa/New Zealand.

Sydenham Heritage Church, originally known as the Colombo Street Methodist Church or Colombo Street Wesleyan Church or Colombo Road Wesleyan Church was a heritage-listed stone church building located in Sydenham, an inner suburb Christchurch, New Zealand. It was registered as an "Historic Place – Category II " by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust.

The Latin Rite Roman Catholic Diocese of Christchurch is a suffragan diocese of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Wellington. Its cathedral and see city are located in Christchurch, the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand. It was formed on 5 May 1887 from a portion of the territory of the Diocese of Wellington, which was elevated to archdiocese later that same month.

Catholic Cathedral College is an integrated Catholic co-educational secondary school in Christchurch, New Zealand. It was founded in 1987 but its origins go back to more than a 119 years earlier. The college is an amalgamation of two schools: Sacred Heart College for girls (founded 1868), and Xavier College for boys (founded 1946).

Phillipstown School was a state co-educational full primary school located in the Christchurch, New Zealand, suburb of Phillipstown. Founded in 1877, the school had students from Years 1 to 8 (ages 5 to 13). It closed at the end of 2014 when it was merged with Woolston School on the Woolston site. The school had an attached technology centre, which taught "manual training" technology subjects to 1,200 Year 7 and 8 students from Phillipstown and 30 other full primary schools in Christchurch. Unlike intermediate schools and Year 7–13 secondary schools, most full primary schools in Christchurch do not have the roll numbers, staff or facilities to fully provide technology subjects to Year 7 and 8 students, so the technology centre catered for these schools. Students attended the centre for 90 minutes per week and rotated every term through six different areas of study: wood, metal, plastic, textiles, food and electronics.Phillipstown came to national attention in 2013 when it sought a judicial review over a decision by the minister of education, Hekia Parata, to merge it with nearby Woolston School. The closure was delayed when the High Court subsequently ruled in favour of Phillipstown and overturned the minister's decision. However, ultimately, the school was closed.The buildings have subsequently been put to use as a community hub.
