Huntsbury is a suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand, on the fringes of the Port Hills three kilometres south of the city centre. Huntsbury amalgamated with Christchurch City on 1 April 1941, on the same day as the New Brighton borough joined the city council.

Waltham is an inner suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand, located approximately two kilometres south-east of the city centre. State Highway 76, part of Christchurch's ring road system, and known there as Brougham Street, runs through the suburb, as does the Lyttelton Line rail corridor. Approximate boundaries of the suburb are Waltham Road, Moorhouse Avenue, Ferry Road, Ensors Road, and the Heathcote River. Waltham was originally part of the Sydenham borough and was incorporated into the City of Christchurch in 1903 when the borough was ended. In the early 1980s local residents and the Christchurch city council tried to name the western part of the suburb, Charleston, between Ferry Road and Ensors Road. This was done to maintain the residential nature of the area against perceived industrial expansion. The attempt was partly successful and that area today is referred to as both Waltham and Charleston. It was registered as an "Historic Place – Category II " by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust.

Ngaio Marsh House is an historic home in Valley Road in the Christchurch suburb of Cashmere. It was the home of writer Ngaio Marsh for most of her life, and now serves as a museum to her. It is registered as a Category I heritage place by Heritage New Zealand for its outstanding historical significance in relation to Marsh.

On 26 December 2010 a Mw 4.7 earthquake occurred directly under the city centre of Christchurch, New Zealand, at a depth of 5 km (3.1 mi) or 4 km (2.5 mi). It caused "significant damage" to Christchurch and was part of the earthquake sequence beginning with the September 2010 Canterbury earthquake, and followed by the 2011 Christchurch earthquake. As the earthquake occurred on Boxing Day, it is commonly referred to as the Boxing Day earthquake. Businesses running their Boxing Day promotions at the time experienced lost revenues due to the earthquake, and responded by re-running Boxing Day sales on 12 February 2011.

Cracroft Reserve is a 3.2-hectare (7.9-acre) public reserve on Cracroft Hill in the Cashmere suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand. It is situated next to the Sign of the Takahe. Cracroft Reserve is a popular stop for tourists, and residents, with its viewing platform at 200 metres (660 ft) elevation providing panoramic views of Christchurch city, the Canterbury Plains, and the Southern Alps. The main entrance to the reserve is from the southern end of Hackthorne Road. The reserve features a sturdy stainless steel plane table pointing to a wide range of landmarks visible from Cracroft Reserve, from Aoraki / Mount Cook to the south to Mount Tapuaenuku to the north. This sign, set on a Halswell stone base, was erected by the Rotary Club of Christchurch in 1967.Cracroft Reserve is named after John Cracroft Wilson. Cracroft Wilson sold the property, once part of the larger Cashmere farm, to the city in about 1925, as part of prominent local politician Harry Ell's initiative to establish a network of reserves, rest houses, and tracks through the Christchurch Port Hills.
