Royal Palace of Salvaterra de Magos

Salvaterra de Magos e Foros de Salvaterra is a civil parish in the municipality of Salvaterra de Magos, Portugal. It was formed in 2013 by the merger of the former parishes Salvaterra de Magos and Foros de Salvaterra. The population in 2011 was 10,446, in an area of 71.80 km².

Salvaterra de Magos (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˌsalvɐˈtɛʁɐ ðɨ ˈmaɣuʃ] ) is a municipality in the district of Santarém in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 22,159, in an area of 243.93 km².The present Mayor is Hélder Manuel Ramalho de Sousa Esménio of the PS. The previous mayor Ana Cristina Pardal Ribeiro, had been the only mayor elected by the Left Bloc. The municipal holiday is Ascension Day. It was once home to the Royal Palace of Salvaterra de Magos, a favored royal residence and hunting lodge of the Portuguese royal family. It was destroyed by fire in the early 19th century. Today, only the chapel and the falconry remain.

Benavente (Portuguese pronunciation: [bɨnɐˈvẽtɨ] ) is a municipality and parish in Santarém District in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 29,019, in an area of 521.38 km2.

Azambuja (Portuguese pronunciation: [ɐzɐ̃ˈbuʒɐ] ) is a municipality in the Portuguese district of Lisbon, in the historical region of Ribatejo (and the sole municipality of within the district that does not belong to the historical province of Estremadura). The population in 2011 was 21,814, in an area of 262.66 km². Since 2002, it was integrated into the NUTS III statistical subregion of Lezíria do Tejo.

Marinhais is a parish of the Salvaterra de Magos Municipality in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 6,336, in an area of 37.88 km².For centuries this land was named "Foros de Muge", since all the terrains belonged to the Muge parish but were uncultivated. The "camarinheiros" (Corema album) — shrubs of the Empetraceae family which produce small, red, inedible fruits called "camarinhas" — were so abundant that the original name Foros de Muge was gradually renamed to "Camarinhaes" by king Miguel of Portugal and his party on deer hunting trips in the municipality. It is difficult to trace an historic evolution of Marinhais, because its first inhabitants were not locals but rather immigrants from the north of the country, namely from the municipalities of Pombal, Soure and Cantanhede. As main historic marks, the year 1875 is noted as the probable construction date of the S. Michael Archanjel chapel (Capela de S. Miguel Arcanjo). The inauguration of the railroad station in 1902 was another notable occurrence, with the presence of king Carlos of Portugal. It is unknown if whether by disfigurement of the original name Camarinhais, or with the purpose of simplifying it, the village was finally named "Marinhais". Finally, in 1927 Marinhais was proclaimed a parish.

Glória do Ribatejo is a former civil parish in the municipality of Salvaterra de Magos, Portugal. In 2013, the parish merged into the new parish Glória do Ribatejo e Granho. It has a total area of 55.03 km², and a total population of 3,427 inhabitants according to the 2001 census. For decades during the Cold War and after the fall of the Soviet Union, under the administration of Oliveira Salazar and his successors, it was the site of RARET (Portuguese RAdio de RETransmissão (Retransmission Radio)), a United States installation that broadcast programs of Radio Free Europe via shortwave to nations of Eastern Europe behind the Iron Curtain, including the Soviet Union (and later Russia). It operated from 1951 to 1996, and was the only one to be operated outside Germany. After it was closed, the installation was abandoned.The town is the setting for Glória, a 2021 historical spy thriller that is the first Netflix production made in Portugal.

Cartaxo (Portuguese pronunciation: [kɐɾˈtaʃu] ) is a municipality in the district of Santarém in continental Portugal. The population in 2011 was 24,462, in an area of 158.17 km2. The urbanized centre of Cartaxo had a population of 9,507 in 2001.

The 1909 Benavente earthquake occurred on April 23 at 17:39:36 local in the Santarém District of the Central Region, Portugal. The earthquake had an estimated moment magnitude of 6.0 and a maximum intensity assigned at X (Extreme) on the Mercalli scale. It nearly destroyed the town of Benavente, killing 60 and injuring 75 people as a result.

The Lezíria Bridge (Portuguese: Ponte da Lezíria) is a box girder bridge flanked by viaducts and rangeviews that spans the Tagus river and the Sorraia River between Carregado and Benavente, north-east of Lisbon, capital of Portugal. It is the third-longest bridge in Europe (including viaducts) with a total length of 12 km. The main bridge spans 972 m over the Tagus and the Sorraia rivers. The span lengths are 95 m - 127 m - 133 m - 4 × 130 m - 95 m. The bridge was constructed in 21 months using the balanced cantilever method and opened to traffic in July 2007.
