Johnson & Wales University (JWU) is a private university with its main campus in Providence, Rhode Island. Founded as a business school in 1914 by Gertrude I. Johnson and Mary T. Wales, JWU enrolled 7,357 students across its campuses in the fall of 2020. The university is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education.

Downtown is the central economic, political, and cultural district of the city of Providence, Rhode Island. It is bounded on the east by Canal Street and the Providence River, to the north by Smith Street, to the west by Interstate 95, and to the south by Henderson Street. The highway serves as a physical barrier between the city's commercial core and neighborhoods of Federal Hill, West End, and Upper South Providence. Most of the downtown is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Downtown Providence Historic District.

The Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC), formerly Loew's State Theatre and Palace Concert Theater, is a multi-use not-for-profit theater located at 220 Weybosset Street in downtown Providence, Rhode Island. It was built in 1928 as a movie palace by the Loews Theatres chain to designs by Rapp & Rapp, the leading designers of music palaces at the time. PPAC contains 3,100 seats and hosts touring Broadway shows, concerts, plays and films.The theater was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977 under the name "Loew's State Theatre".

Shakespeare Hall (also known as Ballou, Johnson & Nichols; Sprague—Knight Building) is an historic commercial building at 128 Dorrance Street in downtown Providence, Rhode Island. It is a six-story masonry structure, originally built as a three-story Greek Revival structure in 1838 to a design by Tallman & Bucklin. Its main facade has retained the massive granite pilasters and five-bay configuration from this period. Originally built to house a theater, the building suffered a massive fire in 1844, leaving only its exterior shell standing. It was afterward rebuilt to its present height, and a separate brick building at its rear was incorporated into its structure in the late 19th century. It was used as a warehouse in the 1860s, and has also housed light industrial operations. Today, the building is used largely for law office space. The hall was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The Arnold–Palmer House is an historic house at 33 Chestnut Street in Providence, Rhode Island. The Federal style house was built in 1826 for wealthy Providence merchant Daniel Arnold at a location on upper Westminster Street, where it was one of four nearly identical houses whose design was attributed to prominent local architect John Holden Greene by preservationist Norman Isham. This house is the only one of the four still standing, having been moved to its present location in 1967 as part of the Weybosset Hill urban redevelopment project.The house is a brick structure, two stories high and five bays wide, with a hip roof topped by a small monitor. It has four chimneys rising from its exterior side walls. Its center entry is flanked by sidelight windows, topped by a fanlight window, and sheltered by a portico supported by paired Ionic columns. The window above the entry is a 1968 alteration salvaged from a house of similar vintage in Pawtucket. The interior has retained much of its original woodwork, despite the numerous uses the house has seen.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

The Beneficent Congregational Church is a United Church of Christ Congregationalist church located at 300 Weybosset Street in downtown Providence, Rhode Island. The congregation was founded in 1743 during the "First Great Awakening" as a separatist spin-off from a Congregationalist group on the east side of the Providence River, and built their first sanctuary on this site. The current church was built in 1809 and was extensively remodeled in the Greek Revival style in 1836. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

Grace Church is an historic Episcopal church at 300 Westminster Street at Mathewson Street in downtown Providence, Rhode Island. It was built in 1845-46 and was designed by Richard Upjohn in the Gothic Revival style. The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, and is part of the Downtown Providence Historic District.

The Union Trust Company Building is a historic building at 170 Westminster Street and 62 Dorrance Street in downtown Providence, Rhode Island.

Tony Lepore (born October 17, 1947), popularly known as the Dancing Cop, is a retired American police officer who danced while directing traffic in Providence, Rhode Island during the December holiday season. Lepore has also done stage performances.[1] Lepore began dancing while directing traffic in 1984 as a way to relieve boredom. After he retired from the Providence Police Department, city leaders asked that him to return during the holiday season in 1992. He agreed to a contract to return as a reserve police officer and continued the practice in ensuing yearsIn 2015, Providence officials elected to terminate Lepore's contract. Lepore alleged that they fired him for organizing an anti-Black Lives Matter protest.In 2019, Lepore announced his retirement and move to Florida.

The Warren Alpert Medical School (formerly known as Brown Medical School, previously known as Brown University School of Medicine) is the medical school of Brown University, located in Providence, Rhode Island. Originally established in 1811, it was the third medical school to be founded in New England after only Harvard and Dartmouth. However, the original program was suspended in 1827, and the four-year medical program was re-established almost 150 years later in 1972, granting the first MD degrees in 1975.Today, the Warren Alpert Medical School is a component of Brown’s Division of Biology and Medicine, which also includes the Program in Biology. Together with the Medical School’s seven affiliated teaching hospitals, the Division attracts over $300 million in external research funding per year.Alpert Medical School earned ranked 14th for primary care education and 35th for research in the 2023 U.S. News & World Report rankings, and was ranked among the top 25 medical schools in the nation by Business Insider in 2016. Graduates of the school are accepted into competitive residency programs and leading medical centers.

Hope Point Tower (also called Fane Tower) is a proposed skyscraper project in Providence, Rhode Island which consists of one 46-story residential tower.Initially, three residential towers of varying height were proposed. The tallest two towers, at 604 feet (184m) and 485 feet (147m), were to have been the tallest skyscrapers in Rhode Island, and the principal tower would have been one of the tallest residential towers in New England. The current project is to be built on Parcel 42, an acre of vacant land between Dyer Street to its west and a planned riverfront park to its east, which was reclaimed after the moving of Interstate 195.The design consists of a masonry and glass facade with some units having balconies. Amenities for residents would include a private movie theater and gym. The first floors will have shops and restaurants.On July 25, 2017, the I-195 District Commission approved the construction of a single 46-story tower, conditional on zoning approval by the city.On September 25, 2019, the I-195 District Commission approved the final design for the tower.In June 2022 the Rhode Island Supreme Court affirmed a Superior Court decision permitting the zoning variance the city council provided for the building.

The Telephone Building is a historic commercial building at 112 Union Street in downtown Providence, Rhode Island. It was built as the headquarters and exchange of the Providence Telephone Company, which occupied it from 1893 to 1917.
