Kostner station (CTA Pink Line)

The K-Town Historic District is a historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places located in the North Lawndale community area in Chicago, Illinois. A mainly residential area, its borders are West Cullerton Street to the north, South Pulaski Road to the east, West Cermak Road to the south, and South Kostner Avenue to the west.

The Hawthorne Works was a large factory complex of the Western Electric Company in Cicero, Illinois. Named after the original name of the town, Hawthorne, it opened in 1905 and operated until 1983. At its peak of operations, Hawthorne employed 45,000 workers, producing large quantities of telephone equipment, but also a wide variety of consumer products. The facility is well-known for the industrial studies held there in the 1920s and the Hawthorne effect is named for the works.

The Storkline Furniture Corporation Factory is a historic factory building at 4400-4418 W. 26th Street in the South Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The Storkline Furniture Corporation, a nationally popular children's furniture company, produced all of its furniture at the factory. Founded in 1915 as the Glass Novelty Company, the corporation renamed itself after its most popular product in the 1920s and built a new factory in 1925. Chicago architect Sidney Minchin designed the brick building, incorporating Sullivanesque terra cotta decorations in the facade. As one of the only companies specializing in children's furniture, Storkline dominated the market in the 1920s and 1930s, and it saw continued success in the following decades. It produced furniture at the factory until another furniture company bought the corporation in the 1960s.The factory was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 6, 2013.

Pulaski is an 'L' station on the CTA's Pink Line, located in the North Lawndale neighborhood. Pulaski opened on June 16, 1902, as part of the Douglas Park branch of the Metropolitan West Side Elevated Railroad. It served as the terminus of that line until its 1907 extension to 48th Avenue.

The 7th congressional district of Illinois covers parts of Cook County, as of the 2011 redistricting that followed the 2010 census. All or parts of Bellwood, Chicago, Forest Park, Oak Park, Maywood, and Westchester are included. Democrat Danny K. Davis has represented the district since January 1997. With a Cook Partisan Voting Index rating of D+37, it is the most Democratic district in Illinois.Due to reapportionment every ten years, the 7th district like other districts has relocated in Illinois throughout its history. In the mid-1800s, Abraham Lincoln represented the 7th district before being elected president, although his home now lies within Illinois's 13th congressional district and most of his district's former territory is now located in the 18th district.

The Five Houses on Avers District is a historic district in Chicago, Illinois, United States. The district was built between 1892 and 1894 by Frederick B. Townsend. It was designated a Chicago Landmark on March 2, 1994.

Cicero is a station on the Chicago Transit Authority's 'L' system, serving the Pink Line. The station was the site of an accident in 1979 in which a train derailed and hit the station, stopping just short of the ticket agent's booth. The station is located in Cicero, Illinois.

The Hawthorne Smoke Shop (later known as the Ship) was a gambling casino owned by American gangster Al Capone and run by fellow gangsters Frankie Pope and Pete Penovich. It was located in Cicero, Illinois, where Capone had fled to escape Chicago police. Although shut down temporarily by raids several times during its existence, it provided a significant amount of revenue, earning half a million dollars in a two-year period. Leslie Shumway, a cashier who worked there, testified in court that horse betting, roulette, craps, blackjack, and birdcage (chuck-a-luck) all took place there. The profits from the Hawthorne Smoke Shop were one piece of evidence used against Capone at his trial in 1931.

The 1968 Chicago riots, in the United States, were sparked in part by the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. Rioting and looting followed, with people flooding out onto the streets of major cities. Soon riots began, primarily in black urban areas. Over 100 major U.S. cities experienced disturbances, resulting in roughly $50 million in damage. Rioters and police in Chicago - ironically a place of which King himself said “I’ve been in many demonstrations all across the South, but I can say that I have never seen, even in Mississippi and Alabama, mobs as hostile and as hate-filled as I’m seeing in Chicago” - were particularly aggressive, and the damage was severe. Of the 39 people who died in the nationwide disturbances, 34 were black. Chicago, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C. experienced some of the worst riots following King's assassination. In Chicago itself, more than 48 hours of rioting left 11 Chicago citizens dead, 48 wounded by police gunfire, 90 policemen injured, and 2,150 people arrested. Three miles of East Garfield Park and West Garfield Park on West Madison Street were left in a state of rubble. Later the same year, around the Democratic National Convention, Chicago would once again be a place for political protest and clashes with the authorities.

Cicero is a station on Metra's BNSF Line, located in Cicero, Illinois. The station is 7.0 miles (11.3 km) away from Union Station, the eastern terminus of the line. In Metra's zone-based fare system, Cicero is in zone B. As of 2018, Cicero is the 176th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 136 weekday boardings. The station is located east of the Cicero Railroad Yard, and several blocks south of the Cicero station on the Cermak Branch of the Chicago 'L''s Pink Line. Metra rebuilt the station's platforms and shelters in 2010.

50th Avenue was a Chicago 'L' station on the Douglas branch of the Chicago Transit Authority's West-Northwest Route, currently known as the Pink Line. The station was located at 50th Avenue and 21st Place in west suburban Cicero. It opened on August 16, 1910, as part of an extension of service of the Metropolitan West Side Elevated Railroad to Laramie. The station closed in 1978 and it was moved to the Illinois Railway Museum where it is preserved.

The Shedd Park Fieldhouse is the historic fieldhouse in Shedd Park, a public park in the South Lawndale community area of Chicago, Illinois. John G. Shedd, for whom the park and fieldhouse are named, gave the city the land for the park. The Prairie School building was designed by William Drummond and built in 1917. The brown brick building features limestone trim. A Prairie School gymnasium designed by Michaelsen and Rognstad was added to the building in 1928.The fieldhouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 30, 1974, and was designated as a Chicago Landmark on February 11, 2004.
