The Church of the Sacred Hearts of Mary and Jesus and St. Stephen was established on December 7, 1941 with the merger of the earlier territorial parish of St. Stephen with the Italian national parish of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, necessitated by the demolition of Sacred Hearts due to construction of the Brooklyn–Queens Expressway.

A riot occurred in the Cobble Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York (not yet a part of New York City), United States, on August 4, 1862. It involved a group of White Americans, mostly of Irish descent, targeting a group of about 20 Black American workers at a tobacco factory on Sedgwick Street. The New York City Police Department was able to quell the riot with only some minor injuries and property damage. Two days prior to the riot, a fight occurred at a liquor store near two tobacco factories between a White and Black man. Following the fight, anti-Black rumors circulated in the primarily Irish American neighborhood of Cobble Hill, and the animus of some in the neighborhood was directed towards Black workers. Heightened tensions were not unusual, as the Irish often regarded Black workers as economic competitors. On the morning of August 4, a mob congregated outside of one of the factories, breaking windows and attacking the people inside. Police arrived and were able to disperse the mob, douse a fire that some rioters had set, and arrest several individuals. Historians have classified the riot as part of a broader trend of violence towards Black Americans in the New York area during the time that included such events as the New York City draft riots the following year.

The Red Hook Marine Terminal is an intermodal freight transport facility that includes a container terminal located on the Upper New York Bay in the Port of New York and New Jersey. The maritime facility in Red Hook section of Brooklyn, New York handles container ships and bulk cargo. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) bought the piers in the 1950s when there was still much break bulk cargo activity in the port. The container terminal was built in the 1980s,There are two active container cranes along 2,080 feet berth, 3,140 feet of breakbulk berth space, two major bulk-handling yards, and approximately 400,000 square feet of warehouse. In October 2011 the PANYNJ took over operations at the site. In 2011, the terminal handled 110,000 containers. Red Hook Container Terminal LLC operates the terminal on the Port Authority's behalf in an agreement set to end in 2018. Nearly all labor on the terminal is supplied by Local 1814 of the International Longshoremans Association union.

The John Rankin House at 440 Clinton Street at the corner of Carroll Street in the Carroll Gardens neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City was built in the Greek Revival style in 1840, at which time it stood by itself, surrounded by farmland and overlooking Upper New York Bay.Rankin was a merchant, and the mansion, one of the finest Greek Revival houses in the city, was one of the largest residences in Brooklyn in the 1840s. It is a three-story, square brick building on a stone foundation. The interior features a massive mahogany stairway with paneled wainscotting.It was designated a New York City landmark in 1970, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. Currently it is the F. G. Guido Funeral Home.

Cobble Hill Towers is an apartment complex in the Cobble Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City. It was built between 1876 and 1879 and was designed as one of the earliest housing projects in the country. Previously known as the Tower and Home Buildings, they were developed by Alfred Tredway White and the architects William Field & Sons. Consisting of nine six-story buildings, notable architectural features include two courtyards, outdoor staircases meant as a fire safety measure and Victorian spires. Known at the turn of the 20th century as the "most famous model tenement enterprises in America," the buildings began conversion into condominiums in 2008.

Carroll Gardens is a neighborhood in the northwestern portion of the New York City borough of Brooklyn. Taking up around 40 city blocks, it is bounded by Degraw and Warren Streets (north), Hoyt and Smith Streets (east), Ninth Street or the Gowanus Expressway (south), and Interstate 278, the Gowanus and Brooklyn–Queens Expressways (west). Politically, Carroll Gardens is represented by the New York City Council's 39th District.

The South Congregational Church is a former Congregational and United Church of Christ church building complex located on the intersection of Court and President Streets in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, New York City. The complex consisting of a church, original chapel, ladies parlor, and rectory was designated a city landmark by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission on March 23, 1983. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.The chapel was built 1851 and the church in 1857. The ladies parlor was built in 1889 to designs by English-American architect Frederick Charles Merry (d.1900) and the rectory building in 1893 to designs by architect Woodruff Leeming. The church is noteworthy as one of Brooklyn's finest examples of the Early Romanesque Revival architectural style. The designers of the chapel and church remain unknown. In 1874, the Rev. Dr. Albert Josiah Lyman became pastor of the South Church, Brooklyn, which church he served for forty-one years.The location is believed to have been selected by the famous preacher and abolitionist Henry Ward Beecher, father to author Harriet Beecher Stowe. As of 2008, it had a well-preserved façade but had been adaptively reused as an office and multi-residences.

Mary A. Whalen, known as the S.T. Kiddoo from 1938 to 1958, is a historic oil tanker located in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. She is the home of the non-profit PortSide NewYork, and the group runs programs aboard her. She was built in 1938 by the John J. Mathis Company, of Camden, New Jersey Hull #124, and measures 172 feet long. She is a rare surviving example of a "bell boat," a ship controlled from the engine room with telegraph signals sent from the bridge. The tanker shipped various fuel products along East Coast and was at center of United States v. Reliable Transfer Co., a pivotal 1975 Supreme Court decision in maritime law after she ran aground in Rockaway Inlet in 1968. She was in active service until 1994.: 3, 11 She was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

RetroFret is an American vintage musical instrument boutique and repair shop located in Brooklyn, New York. Founded in 1983 by luthier Steven Uhrik, RetroFret's early business was primarily musical instrument repair services. In the mid-1990s, the business grew into a moderately stocked showroom that served local, international & professional musicians. By the mid-2000s, the showroom had grown vastly, displaying over 200 instruments & musical artifacts from around the world.
