The Church of the Sacred Hearts of Mary and Jesus and St. Stephen was established on December 7, 1941 with the merger of the earlier territorial parish of St. Stephen with the Italian national parish of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, necessitated by the demolition of Sacred Hearts due to construction of the Brooklyn–Queens Expressway.

The John Rankin House at 440 Clinton Street at the corner of Carroll Street in the Carroll Gardens neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City was built in the Greek Revival style in 1840, at which time it stood by itself, surrounded by farmland and overlooking Upper New York Bay.Rankin was a merchant, and the mansion, one of the finest Greek Revival houses in the city, was one of the largest residences in Brooklyn in the 1840s. It is a three-story, square brick building on a stone foundation. The interior features a massive mahogany stairway with paneled wainscotting.It was designated a New York City landmark in 1970, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. Currently it is the F. G. Guido Funeral Home.

Carroll Gardens is a neighborhood in the northwestern portion of the New York City borough of Brooklyn. Taking up around 40 city blocks, it is bounded by Degraw and Warren Streets (north), Hoyt and Smith Streets (east), Ninth Street or the Gowanus Expressway (south), and Interstate 278, the Gowanus and Brooklyn–Queens Expressways (west). The Red Hook Marine Terminal is an intermodal freight transport facility that includes a container terminal located on the Upper New York Bay in the Port of New York and New Jersey. The maritime facility in Red Hook section of Brooklyn, New York handles container ships and bulk cargo. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) bought the piers in the 1950s when there was still much break bulk cargo activity in the port. The container terminal was built in the 1980s,There are two active container cranes along 2,080 feet berth, 3,140 feet of breakbulk berth space, two major bulk-handling yards, and approximately 400,000 square feet of warehouse. In October 2011 the PANYNJ took over operations at the site. In 2011, the terminal handled 110,000 containers. Red Hook Container Terminal LLC operates the terminal on the Port Authority's behalf in an agreement set to end in 2018. Nearly all labor on the terminal is supplied by Local 1814 of the International Longshoremans Association union.

The South Congregational Church is a former Congregational and United Church of Christ church building complex located on the intersection of Court and President Streets in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, New York City. The complex consisting of a church, original chapel, ladies parlor, and rectory was designated a city landmark by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission on March 23, 1983. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.The chapel was built 1851 and the church in 1857. The ladies parlor was built in 1889 to designs by English-American architect Frederick Charles Merry (d.1900) and the rectory building in 1893 to designs by architect Woodruff Leeming. The church is noteworthy as one of Brooklyn's finest examples of the Early Romanesque Revival architectural style. The designers of the chapel and church remain unknown. In 1874, the Rev. Dr. Albert Josiah Lyman became pastor of the South Church, Brooklyn, which church he served for forty-one years.The location is believed to have been selected by the famous preacher and abolitionist Henry Ward Beecher, father to author Harriet Beecher Stowe. As of 2008, it had a well-preserved façade but had been adaptively reused as an office and multi-residences.

Congregation Baith Israel Anshei Emes (Hebrew: בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל אַנְשֵׁי אֱמֶת, "House of Israel – People of Truth"), more commonly known as the Kane Street Synagogue, is an egalitarian Conservative synagogue located at 236 Kane Street in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, New York City, United States. It is currently the oldest continuously operating synagogue in Brooklyn.Founded as Baith Israel in 1856, the congregation constructed the first synagogue on Long Island, and hired Aaron Wise for his first rabbinical position in the United States. Early tensions between traditionalists and reformers led to the latter forming Congregation Beth Elohim, a Reform synagogue, in 1861.The synagogue nearly failed in the early 20th century, but the 1905 hiring of Israel Goldfarb as rabbi, the purchase of its current buildings, and the 1908 merger with Talmud Torah Anshei Emes re-invigorated the congregation. The famous composer Aaron Copland celebrated his Bar Mitzvah there in 1913, and long-time Goldman Sachs head Sidney Weinberg was married there in 1920.Membership peaked in the 1920s, but with the onset of the Great Depression declined steadily, and by the 1970s the congregation could no longer afford to heat the sanctuary. Membership has recovered since that low point; the congregation renovated its school/community center in 2004, and in 2008 embarked on a million-dollar capital campaign to renovate the sanctuary.

The Cobble Hill Historic District is a municipal and national historic district located in the Cobble Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City. The national district consists of 796 contributing, largely residential buildings built between the 1830s and 1920s. It includes fine examples of Greek Revival, Italianate, and Queen Anne style row houses. Also in the district are a number of notable churches, including ones by Richard Upjohn (Christ Church, 1841–42) and Minard Lafever (St. Francis Cabrini Chapel, originally Strong Place Baptist Church), 1851–52). A number of early 20th century apartment buildings are part of the district as well.The Cobble Hill Historic District was first designated a New York City landmark by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1969. It was then listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. The city extended the district in 1988.

BoCoCa is a portmanteau word combining the names of three adjacent neighborhoods in the Brooklyn borough of New York City: Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill, and Carroll Gardens. BoCoCa is not an actual neighborhood, but an umbrella term for the small region of Brooklyn directly south and southwest of Downtown Brooklyn. The relatively new name is not widely used, but is gaining greater currency, even outside the United States. Among the publications using BoCoCa to classify neighborhoods are the Not for Tourists guide and New York magazine, both of which list BoCoCa together with neighboring Red Hook.NYC & Company, New York City's "official marketing, tourism and partnership organization", has conferred recognition of the term BoCoCa on its web site. However, it is a word that is almost never used by actual residents of the three neighborhoods in question.
