Herøya Church (Norwegian: Herøya kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Porsgrunn Municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. It is located on Herøya in the town of Porsgrunn. It is one of the churches for the Eidanger parish which is part of the Skien prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The brick church was built in a rectangular design in 1957 using plans drawn up by the architects Helge Abrahamsen and Hans Grinde. The church seats about 430 people, but can hold up to 700 people if the movable walls are changed to maximize seating in the main room.

Herøya is a peninsula in Porsgrunn Municipality in Telemark county, Norway. It is located between the fjords of Frierfjord to the west and Gunnekleivfjord to the east, at the mouth of Porsgrunn River. The name stems from the Old Norse word "her-eyjar" meaning an island (øya) with a horde or army (her), thus "the crowded island".The peninsula features a large industrial park that was founded in 1928 and contains major facilities of Norsk Hydro, Yara. REC (ScanWafer subsidiary) said in 2023 that the company is closing down its operations in Norway.The area is served by the Bratsberg Line. 2,700 people work on the 1.5 square kilometres (0.58 sq mi) peninsula that has about 30 companies, most of which are subsidiaries of Norsk Hydro, including Hydro's research park with 350 employees. A populated area south of the peninsula itself, which was initially housing for the Hydro employees, is also considered part of Herøya as a suburb of the city of Porsgrunn. Herøya also has a local football club, participating in the Norwegian 5th division. The club stadium, Herøya Stadion, has a capacity in surplus of 2000.

Porsgrunn videregående skole is an upper secondary school located in the town of Porsgrunn, in the county Telemark, in Norway. The school is Telemark county's biggest school together with Skien videregående skole, and has a total of 1150 students and about 170 employees. It is one of 24 schools in Norway to offer an IB Diploma Programme.

The University of South-Eastern Norway (Norwegian: Universitetet i Sørøst-Norge), commonly known as USN, is a Norwegian state university. It has campuses in Bø in Telemark, Porsgrunn, Notodden, Rauland, Drammen, Hønefoss, Kongsberg and Horten. USN is a continuation of the three former university colleges, Telemark University College, Buskerud University College and Vestfold University College, which merged between 2014 and 2016 to form the University College of South-Eastern Norway. The institution was granted the status of a full university by the King-in-Council on 4 May 2018.USN has 88 undergraduate programs, 44 master's programs and 8 PhD programs. Measured in the number of students, USN is the fourth largest University in Norway with approximately 17,000 students and 1,900 staff, spread over eight campuses. The university is exclusively offering several courses in Norway, such as optician study in Kongsberg.

Telemark University College (TUC, Norwegian: Høgskolen i Telemark, HiT) was, until its merger, the fourth largest university college in Norway. The University College had about 7000 students, split between four different locations in Bø, Notodden, Porsgrunn, Rauland and Drammen.

The European route E18 highway passes through the southern part of the town of Porsgrunn. The town is part of the Porsgrunn/Skien metropolitan area, so Statistics Norway does not track the population of the town separately. The portion of the urban area within Porsgrunn Municipality is 20.99-square-kilometre (5,190-acre) and it has a population (2022) of 34,291 with a population density of 1,634 inhabitants per square kilometre (4,230/sq mi).

Nystrand Station (Norwegian: Nystrand stasjon) is a disused railway station located at Eidanger in Porsgrunn, Norway, on the Brevik Line. Designed by Paul Due, it was located 195.35 kilometers (121.38 mi) from Oslo. The station opened on 15 July 1895, three months before the rest of the line. Nystrand was largely used for recreational visits to Eidangerfjorden from townspeople in Porsgrunn and Skien. The station was served by a commuter train service until 1964, and has not seen regular calls by trains since 1968. It was formally closed on 31 May 1970. The station building has been preserved at Porsgrunn Town Museum.

Gunnekleivfjorden is a fjord in Porsgrunn Municipality in Telemark county, Norway. The 2-kilometre (1.2 mi) long fjord is located at the head of Frierfjord in the town of Porsgrunn.The west side of the fjord is defined by the Herøya peninsula at the mouth of Telemarksvassdraget. Herøya features a large industrial park that was founded in 1928. It contains major facilities of Norsk Hydro, Yara, and REC (ScanWafer subsidiary). The east side of the fjord belongs to Skrapeklev, a residential area in the town of Porsgrunn.The fjord's mouth lies on the north end of the fjord where the Porsgrunn River discharges into the Frierfjord at Norsk Hydro's factory complex. The Skien River, which begins in Skien, is called the Porsgrunn River as it runs through Porsgrunn. Small watercraft traffic can also pass through a man-made canal at the south of the fjord.The fjord is heavily polluted due to the development of the industrial area at Herøya. The fjord has brackish water with a significant amount of fish (both freshwater and saltwater species).

Eidanger Station (Norwegian: Eidanger stasjon) is a disused railway station at Eidanger in Porsgrunn, Norway. Located at the intersection of the Bratsberg Line, Brevik Line and Vestfold Line, it is located 192.60 kilometers (119.68 mi) from Oslo. The station buildings were designed by Balthazar Lange. The station opened as part of the Vestfold Line on 23 November 1882, with the Brevik Line opening in 1895. From 1916 the Brevik- and Bratsberg Lines received standard gauge, and Eidanger was used for transshipment with the narrow-gauge Vestfold Line. The station's importance diminished with the latter's gauge conversion in 1941. The commuter train service between Brevik and Skien terminated in 1964, reducing most of the station's traffic. It was closed on 2 March 1987, but remains in use as a passing loop.

Eidanger is a former municipality in Telemark county, Norway. The 136-square-kilometre (53 sq mi) municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1964. The area is now part of Porsgrunn Municipality. The administrative centre was the village of Eidanger where Eidanger Church is located.The municipality of Eidanger included a peninsula between the Eidangerfjorden and the Frierfjorden. Situated between the urban municipalities (towns) of Brevik and Porsgrunn. It also included the more rural areas to the north and east of the Eidangerfjorden. The municipality had excellent natural conditions for building harbours, it became the site of Norsk Hydro's plant at Herøya and the Dalen Portland (now part of the Norcem corporation) concrete factory just outside Brevik. More recently, a major industry in the area is Heistad Fabrikker, which makes products for diabetics. Isola maintains its head office and administration office in Eidanger. Isola has two factories in this area where bitumen-based products and steel roofing tiles are manufactured.Eidanger Church (Eidanger kirke) is located in the village of Eidanger and was the main church for the municipality. The church was originally a relatively simple stone church in the Romanesque style, probably built ca. 1150. The church was extended in 1787 and received a new sacristy in 1981. The altarpiece, stained glass and the pulpit is from 1991 and made by Terje Grøstad. The baptismal font is of stone and is from the 1890s. The church has two bells, one from 1720 and one from 1940.

Our Lady of Good Counsel Church (Norwegian: Vår Frue av det Gode Råds Kirke) is a Roman Catholic parish church in the city of Porsgrunn in Vestfold og Telemark, Norway. The church is located in the center of town just south of Porsgrunn River, at the intersection of Sverresgate and Aallsgate. The church was built in 1899 by Haldor Larsen Børve and is a classic example of Dragestil architecture.
