The Adams House is a historic building in the city centre of York, in England. The house lies on Low Petergate, one of the main streets in the centre of York. It was built in 1772, for John Fountayne, the Dean of York. It originally incorporated a ground floor passageway through which the Deanery could be accessed. Construction cost £1,353 (equivalent to £184,003 in 2021), and was immediately let to one of the cathedral vergers, who then sub-let it. At a later date, the ground floor was converted into a shop, incorporating the former passageway.The building was Grade II* listed in 1954. For some time, it was a branch of Café Rouge, before becoming Jimmy's cafe-bar, and in 2022, a Fat Hippo burger bar.The three-storey building is built of brick, on a stone base. The original entrance doorway survives, with a second entrance having been created when the passageway was removed; the remainder of the ground floor facade is a shopfront, in similar style. There is a decorated cornice, and an original drainpipe head, with the crest of an elephant, the emblem of Fountayne. The rear facade is plainer, with various sash windows, and some blocked windows.Inside, the ground floor has been altered, but many rooms on the upper floors retain their original plasterwork and fireplaces, the grandest being in the first floor saloon. Two original staircases also survive.

41 and 43 Low Petergate is a historic building in the city centre of York, in England. The building lies on Low Petergate, one of the main streets in the city centre. The front section is a timber-framed building dating from the late 14th century. It was extended to the rear, in brick, in the 18th century. At the time, it was used as a coffee shop, and it remained the Garrick Coffee House until 1860. The building was Grade II* listed in 1954. Since 2011, it has housed a branch of Neal's Yard Remedies. The front of the three-storey building is jettied, with the timberwork covered in plaster and whitewashed. At ground floor level is a timber shopfront, with a 20th-century bow window. The upper floors have sash windows dating from the 1760s. The cornice has an elaborate drainpipe head, decorated with rosettes. The rear is also of three storeys, the left bay having a round-headed staircase window, with a sash above. Inside, much timber framing is visible, as is the crown post roof in the front section. Early features include the cellar door, the 18th-century first floor staircase, and a ladder staircase to the attic, along with 17th- and 18th-century panelling and doors in the front and back rooms on the first and second floors.

56–60 Low Petergate is a grade II* listed building in the city centre of York, in England. The building was constructed in about 1500 as a terrace of five houses on the north-east side of Low Petergate, for John Stockdale. It is of three storeys, and is five bays long, with timber framing and a jettied front. In about 1630, it was redivided into the current three properties, with chimneys and an attic storey added, and extensions at the rear of each property. In the early-19th century, 56 Low Petergate was refronted in brick, while further brick extensions were added to the rear of 58 and 60 Low Petergate. The bay windows at the front of 58 and 60 Low Petergate date from around 1800, and the shopfront of 56 is also 19th-century, the other buildings having 20th-century shopfronts.Inside, some early fixtures and fittings survive, including the 17th-century top section of the staircase in 56, and there is a 17th-century plaster overmantel on the first floor, displaying the Stuart coat of arms. There is also a 17th-century cupboard door on the second floor, while other doors date from the 18th-century. In 58, there is a ground floor room with 18th-century panelling, and on the first floor there is an 18th-century overmantel, while in 60, there is a first floor room with 18th-century panelling.The building was grade II* listed in 1954.

Petergate is a street in the city centre of York, in England. It is divided into High Petergate and Low Petergate. The well-known view of the Minster from Low Petergate is described by the City of York Council as "excellent".

43 Stonegate is a historic, Grade II* listed building in the city centre of York, in England.The building was probably constructed in the 15th century. It was remodelled in the 17th century, and the front and roof were replaced in the late 18th century. At the time, it was the White Dog pub, which by the mid-19th century had become the White Hart Inn. Since 1991, it has housed the Pyramid Gallery.The building is timber framed and has three storeys and a cellar. Both of the upper storeys are jettied. There is a shop window at ground-floor level, while the upper floors have bay windows. The rear wall is of 18th-century brick. Inside, there is a historic cooking range in the cellar, in a stone fireplace. The main staircase is also historic, while on the second floor there is part of a frieze and several 17th-century doors.

10 Minster Yard is an historic building in the city of York, North Yorkshire, England. A Grade II listed building, located at the corner of Minster Gates at Minster Yard, the building dates to around 1763. It was part of the now-closed Minster School, and was built as the home of dean John Fountayne. 10 Minster Gates is located in the rear of the building. It is around 90 years older than the buildings behind it, numbers 2–8 Minster Gates, which are not on the same alignments as 10 Minster Yard and 10 and 10a Minster Gates.

Barley Hall is a reconstructed medieval townhouse in the city of York, England. It was built around 1360 by the monks of Nostell Priory near Wakefield and extended in the 15th century. The property went into a slow decline and by the 20th century was sub-divided and in an increasingly poor physical condition. Bought by the York Archaeological Trust in 1987, it was renamed Barley Hall and heavily restored in a controversial project to form a museum. It is open to the public and hosts exhibitions.

73, 75 and 77 Low Petergate is a terrace of late Mediaeval buildings in York, in England. The terrace was constructed in the late-16th century, and originally consisted of four houses. Each is of three stories with an attic, and each storey is jettied over the one below. They are timber-framed throughout, and this is largely exposed inside the upper floors. In each building, part of the original staircase from the second floor to the attic survives. In 75, a large chimney breast with two hearths survives.The street fronts are rendered with stucco, with incisions designed to make it resemble ashlar. 73 and 77 have original gables, while 75 has twin gables which were added in the 17th century. Various extensions have been added to the rear of the terrace, with the largest addition being to 73.The houses lie on Low Petergate, one of the most important streets in the city centre, now a major shopping street. In the 19th century, the ground floors were converted into three shops, and the shop front of 77 survives, while the others were further altered in the 20th century. With the later house at 71 Low Petergate, and the earlier ones at 79 and 81 Low Petergate, they form a lengthy range of timber-framed buildings which Nikolaus Pevsner described as "impressive". The terrace has been Grade II* listed since 1954.

A Roman column stands in Minster Yard in the English city of York. Originally built around the first century, by the soldiers of Legio IX Hispana, it was reused by Legion VI in the 4th century. It is believed to have been part of a group of sixteen freestanding columns (eight on each side of the nave), supporting the walls of an earlier church on the site. The column was discovered beneath York Minster during a 1969 excavation, and was given to the City of York three years later to mark the 1900th anniversary of the city's founding.The column is 7.6 metres (25 ft) tall and constructed of Magnesian Limestone and millstone grit. It now stands in front of the Minster School, in Minster Yard, on the southern side of York Minster.

York College for Girls was a girls' school in York, England, founded in 1908 and closed in 1997.The school was founded by the Church Schools Company (later the United Church Schools Trust) and opened with twelve pupils on 24 January 1908 in Low Petergate, York, in a building dating to around 1725. By 1997, the school had about 200 pupils and was in the same buildings with later extensions. In 1996, there were reports of a "cash crisis" and the school closed in 1997.The buildings are grade II* listed, and after the school closed they became the home of the restaurant La Vecchia Scuola ("the old school" in Italian), which is still in operation.

33–35 High Petergate is a Mediaeval building in the city centre of York, in England. The oldest part of the building was constructed in the 14th century as part of a terrace facing Stonegate, this part now known as 60 Stonegate. The main part of the building, two houses now numbered 33 and 35 High Petergate, is timber framed and was originally of two jettied storeys, built at an unknown date. Around 1600, a jettied second floor and attic were added, and 60 Stonegate was combined with the High Petergate row. At the corner of the building is a dragon post inscribed ":ANNO:DO:1646".In the early-18th century, an extension was added at the rear of the building, doubling its depth. 33 Petergate was altered in early 19th century, and a small brick-built rear wing was added. Later in the century, shop fronts were inserted at ground level, and these survive. Inside, there are several early doors and the upper part of the staircase in 35 is also early, while the lower part is 18th century. The staircase in 33 is early 19th century.The building was grade II* listed in 1954. It is currently divided into two shops, with flats above.
