Neos Zygos
Neos Zygos, formerly known as Prosfyges (Greek: Πρόσφυγες, lit. 'refugees'), is a settlement located 12 km northwest of Kavala at an altitude of 99 meters above sea level. It is built near and west of the EO Kavala – Drama, between the villages of Zygos (South), Palaia Kavala (Southwest), Amygdaleona (North) and Polystylo (East). The settlement was created with a government grant for the housing of Expatriates Returned Pontian Greeks from the Soviet Union. From 1990 to 1993, 110 families were settled. It is reported in 1991 to be attached to the community of Zygos. According to the Kallikratis Programme, together with Zygos constitute the municipal community of Zygos which belongs to the municipal unit of Philippi of the municipality of Kavala and according to the 2011 census has a population of 572 inhabitants. During the Administrative divisions of Greece with the Kapodistrias reform ("Kapodistrias" plan), until 2010, it belonged to the former Municipality of Philippi. In January 2022, It joined the Municipality of Kavala in the Kavala regional unit, Greece after 30 years and changed its name from "Prosfyges" to "Neos Zygos", Since the previous name was incorrect, because most of the inhabitants were not refugees or immigrants.
