The 1952 Women's Western Open was a golf competition held at Skokie Country Club, the 23rd edition of the event. Betsy Rawls won the championship in match play competition by defeating Betty Jameson in the final match, 1 up.

The 1922 U.S. Open was the 26th U.S. Open, held July 14–15 at Skokie Country Club in Glencoe, Illinois, a suburb north of Chicago. Gene Sarazen won the first of his seven major championships, one stroke ahead of runners-up John Black and 20-year-old amateur Bobby Jones.Walter Hagen, the winner of the British Open three weeks earlier, opened with 68 to take a three-shot lead over Black on Friday morning. In the second round that afternoon, Black shot a 71 to take a two-stroke lead over Bill Mehlhorn, with Hagen and Sarazen another stroke back.Jones had an even-par 70 in the third round to take a share of the 54-hole lead with Mehlhorn, while Black's 75 left him one behind. The leaders could not contend with Sarazen's brilliant play in the final round, recording a two-putt birdie on the finishing hole for a 68 and 288 total. Black needed to par the final two holes to force a playoff, but his tee shot on 17 went out of bounds and led to a double bogey. Needing an eagle on the par-5 18th to tie, Black's second shot landed ten feet (3 m) from the pin, but in a greenside bunker. When he failed to hole out from the sand, Sarazen clinched the title.Sarazen, age 20, became the fourth American-born champion of the U.S. Open, joining John McDermott, Francis Ouimet, and Hagen. He won a second U.S. Open ten years later in 1932.

The Mr. James Kent Calhoun House is a historic house at 740 Greenwood Avenue in Glencoe, Illinois. The house was built in 1895 for James Kent Calhoun and his family. Calhoun held several positions in Glencoe government, including Village President and Village Trustee, and wrote one of the first chronicles of Glencoe's early history and politics. The house has a Queen Anne style design with a spindlework front porch, bracketed projecting bays, and a cross-gable roof. The Calhoun family has owned the house for all but fifteen of the years since its construction; it was sold after Calhoun's second wife Blanche died in 1975, but his grandson R. Scott Javore bought the house back in 1990.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 7, 2010.

The Edmund D. Brigham House is a house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright at 790 Sheridan Road in Glencoe, Illinois. Wright designed the house circa 1908 for Edmund D. Brigham, a freight agent for the Chicago & North Western Railway, and it was completed the following year. Wright's design is a variation of the one in his article "A Fireproof House for $5000", a concrete home design which he published in the Ladies' Home Journal in 1907. While the Brigham House was the only one of Wright's Fireproof House for $5000 designs actually built with concrete, he would continue to work and experiment with the material throughout his career. The house's Prairie School plan has a central two-story section with one-story wings on either side, several rows of casement windows, and large piers at the corners of the central section and the middle of each wing.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 27, 2016.

The William A. Glasner House, is a Frank Lloyd Wright designed Prairie School home that was constructed in Glencoe, Illinois, United States, in 1905. Glasner led his sister, Emma Pettit, to Wright to design the Pettit Memorial Chapel as a memorial to her deceased husband, Dr. William H. Pettit. The house was threatened with demolition by a real estate developer, but the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy helped locate a conservation-minded buyer who ultimately purchased the house. It is a 4,300 square feet, four-bedroom, three-bathroom house and sits on a one-acre lot. Jack Reed bought the house in 2003 for $1.5 million and spent $2.5 million restoring it.

The Jesse L. Strauss Estate is a historic house at 110 Maple Hill Road in Glencoe, Illinois. The house was built in 1921 for businessman Jesse Strauss and his wife Blanche. David Adler, a prominent Chicago architect known for building large country houses for wealthy clients, designed the house. Like many of his works, Adler's design for the Strauss Estate was inspired by French architecture, and the estate was meant to resemble a French farmhouse. The house consists of a main wing and a service wing which form an "L" shape, with an octagonal tower at the corner between them. Its design also includes a projection at the main entrance, a stucco exterior with wood trim, and a steep roof punctuated by dormers.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 22, 2014.

The Ravine Bluffs Development was commissioned in 1915 by Frank Lloyd Wright's attorney, Sherman Booth Jr. It is located in Glencoe, Illinois. Six houses, three poured concrete sculptures, and one bridge were built. Five of the houses were for rent when built. The Sherman Booth House is a Prairie Style house designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright in Glencoe, IL. The house was built as the primary residence for the family of Elizabeth K and Sherman M Booth II in 1916. Sherman Booth II was an attorney at the time for Wright. The house is the largest of six Wright-designed Prairie Style homes in the Ravine Bluffs Development.Wright had originally designed a grander vision for the Booths in 1911 (known as Scheme 1), but due to the exorbitant cost ($125,000 in 1910) and a financial downturn in the Booths fortunes, he redesigned two existing structures in the design that was built (Scheme 2).

Sacred Heart School is a private, Catholic school located in the Hubbard Woods neighborhood of Winnetka, Illinois and the village's oldest operating K-8 school, having been established in 1902. It serves approximately 200 students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. In addition to Winnetka, the school draws from the surrounding communities of Glencoe, Northfield, Wilmette and Highland Park. Sacred Heart School is part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago and a member of the National Catholic Educational Association and has been recognized by the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program. The John Rogerson Montgomery House is a residence designed by country house architect Howard Van Doren Shaw in Glencoe, Illinois, United States. It is considered to be a significant example of Georgian Revival architecture mixed with Arts & Crafts influences.

Hubbard Woods is a station on Metra's Union Pacific North Line located in Winnetka, Illinois. Hubbard Woods is located at 1065 Gage Street. Hubbard Woods is 17.7 miles (28.5 km) away from Ogilvie Transportation Center in Chicago, the southern terminus of the Union Pacific North Line. Trains continue as far north as Kenosha, Wisconsin. In Metra's zone-based fare system, Hubbard Woods is in Zone D. As of 2018, Hubbard Woods is the 120th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 396 weekday boardings.Hubbard Woods consists of a station and two side platforms which serve two tracks, with northbound trains using the west platform and southbound trains use the east platform. The station is located at street level and is open from 5:15 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. The platforms at Hubbard Woods are located in a below-grade depression. The platforms are accessible from Scott Avenue as well as a pedestrian bridge adjacent to the station house. Parking is available at Hubbard Woods. As of April 25, 2022, Hubbard Woods is served by 23 inbound trains and 21 outbound trains on weekdays, by 11 trains in each direction on Saturdays, and by eight trains in each direction on Sundays. The Green Bay Trail, a hiking and bicycle trail, runs parallel to the train tracks at Hubbard Woods and is accessible from the platforms. Until November 2015, this station had a ticket agent.
