Sherman Booth House

The Ravine Bluffs Development was commissioned in 1915 by Frank Lloyd Wright's attorney, Sherman Booth Jr. It is located in Glencoe, Illinois. Six houses, three poured concrete sculptures, and one bridge were built. Five of the houses were for rent when built. North Shore Congregation Israel is a Reform synagogue located at 1185 Sheridan Road in Glencoe, Illinois. The congregation started in 1920 as the North Shore branch of Sinai Congregation, and is the oldest in the Chicago North Shore suburbs. The decision to establish a separate congregation had been a subject of concerned discussion for a number of years, and was perceived as an important step in the evolution of the Jewish presence in the North Shore as a separate community. The first full-time rabbi was Harvey Wessel in 1926.The congregation's 1964 building is located on a 19-acre lakefront parcel, formerly the location of a 1911 mansion that was designed by Chicago architect David Adler for his uncle, hat manufacturer Charles A. Stonehill, and was later owned by Syma Cohen Busiel, the co-founder of Lady Esther cosmetics, before it was sold to the congregation in 1961 for $500,000. The building was designed by the well-known, Detroit-based modernist architect Minoru Yamasaki. Yamasaki composed the building as a series of arching fan vaults. The voids between the concrete shells of the fan vaults are filled with colored glass above and clear glass at eye level. Yamasaki describes his design as "a confluence of daylight and solids." The building has been described as representative of "a period of post-war modernism that was characterized by assertive architectural gestures that had the strength and integrity to stand alone, without applied artwork or Jewish iconography." Architecture critic Samuel D. Gruber chose an image of the interior of Yamasaki's sanctuary for the cover of his book American Synagogues: A Century of Architecture and Jewish Community, and has noted that this "dramatic, awe-inspiring space" was "hard to use by a congregation, so a smaller sanctuary was built in 1979. Together, the two connected buildings create a portrait of Jewish aspirations in the late-20th century."In celebration of the 2018 Illinois Bicentennial, the North Shore Congregation Israel Synagogue was selected as one of the Illinois 200 Great Places by the American Institute of Architects Illinois component (AIA Illinois).

The Jesse L. Strauss Estate is a historic house at 110 Maple Hill Road in Glencoe, Illinois. The house was built in 1921 for businessman Jesse Strauss and his wife Blanche. David Adler, a prominent Chicago architect known for building large country houses for wealthy clients, designed the house. Like many of his works, Adler's design for the Strauss Estate was inspired by French architecture, and the estate was meant to resemble a French farmhouse. The house consists of a main wing and a service wing which form an "L" shape, with an octagonal tower at the corner between them. Its design also includes a projection at the main entrance, a stucco exterior with wood trim, and a steep roof punctuated by dormers.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 22, 2014.

The William A. Glasner House, is a Frank Lloyd Wright designed Prairie School home that was constructed in Glencoe, Illinois, United States, in 1905. Glasner led his sister, Emma Pettit, to Wright to design the Pettit Memorial Chapel as a memorial to her deceased husband, Dr. William H. Pettit. The house was threatened with demolition by a real estate developer, but the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy helped locate a conservation-minded buyer who ultimately purchased the house. It is a 4,300 square feet, four-bedroom, three-bathroom house and sits on a one-acre lot. Jack Reed bought the house in 2003 for $1.5 million and spent $2.5 million restoring it.

The Lichtstern House is a historic house at 105 S. Deere Park Drive in Highland Park, Illinois. The house was built in 1919 for a businessman named E. Lichtstern. Arthur Heun, a Chicago architect known for designing homes for the upper class, designed the house. Heun's design primarily used Italian Villa architecture, which was inspired by Lichtstern's travels to Italy, but also includes some Prairie School elements. Its overall form, use of segmental arches, and balconies are typical of the Italian Villa style, but its leaded glass windows and overhanging eaves are Prairie School features.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 29, 1982.

The Edmund D. Brigham House is a house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright at 790 Sheridan Road in Glencoe, Illinois. Wright designed the house circa 1908 for Edmund D. Brigham, a freight agent for the Chicago & North Western Railway, and it was completed the following year. Wright's design is a variation of the one in his article "A Fireproof House for $5000", a concrete home design which he published in the Ladies' Home Journal in 1907. While the Brigham House was the only one of Wright's Fireproof House for $5000 designs actually built with concrete, he would continue to work and experiment with the material throughout his career. The house's Prairie School plan has a central two-story section with one-story wings on either side, several rows of casement windows, and large piers at the corners of the central section and the middle of each wing.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 27, 2016.

The Mr. James Kent Calhoun House is a historic house at 740 Greenwood Avenue in Glencoe, Illinois. The house was built in 1895 for James Kent Calhoun and his family. Calhoun held several positions in Glencoe government, including Village President and Village Trustee, and wrote one of the first chronicles of Glencoe's early history and politics. The house has a Queen Anne style design with a spindlework front porch, bracketed projecting bays, and a cross-gable roof. The Calhoun family has owned the house for all but fifteen of the years since its construction; it was sold after Calhoun's second wife Blanche died in 1975, but his grandson R. Scott Javore bought the house back in 1990.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 7, 2010.

Braeside is a railroad station in Highland Park, Illinois serving Metra's Union Pacific North Line, in the Braeside neighborhood of Highland Park. It is located at 10 North St. Johns Avenue, just off Lake Cook Road. In Metra's zone-based fare schedule, Braeside is located in Zone E. As of 2018, Braeside is the 117th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 410 weekday boardings. Cook County Forest Preserves' Turnbull Woods and William N. Erickson Preserve are adjacent to the station, and the Chicago Botanic Garden is a mile away. Braeside Station has a warming hut on the inbound side of the track. The station is named after a nearby school. The station consists of two platforms and a waiting room/warming hut, but does not contain a ticket agent booth or restroom facilities. Northbound trains stop on the west platform and southbound trains stop on the east platform. Trains go south to Chicago’s Ogilvie Transportation Center, and as far north as Kenosha, Wisconsin. As of 2022, Braeside is served by 23 inbound trains and 21 outbound trains on weekdays, by 11 trains in each direction on Saturdays, and by eight trains in each direction on Sundays.

Braeside School is a historic school at 124 Pierce Road in Highland Park, Illinois. Built in 1928, the Prairie School style school was designed by architect John S. Van Bergen. Van Bergen had worked for Frank Lloyd Wright and mainly designed Prairie School houses, including his own Highland Park home. His plan for the school focused on creating a home-like setting for students, which included large classrooms, natural lighting, and fireplaces. The school has a low, horizontally oriented shape with a hip roof, a characteristic Prairie School form.The school was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 29, 1982.

Glencoe is located on Chicago's North Shore and is located within the New Trier High School District. Glencoe has the eighth highest income per household in the U.S. among municipalities with greater than 2,000 homes.

Skokie Country Club is a private country club in Glencoe, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. Founded in 1897, it features a 7091-yard 18-hole course. In 1922, it hosted the U.S. Open that was won by Gene Sarazen. Phil Gaudin was serving as the head professional at Skokie Country Club when it hosted the 1922 U.S. Open. It has also hosted the 1909 Western Open, the 1952 Women's Western Open, the 1998 U.S. Senior Amateur, the 2010 Western Amateur, and the 2017 Western Amateur. The original course was designed by Tom Bendelow in 1904. It was turned into a Donald Ross course in 1914 when he redesigned it. Then in 1938 William Langford substantially reworked the layout with respect paid to the integrity of Ross's intentions.Walter Fovargue served as the head professional in the early 1900s and remained there until 1916.
