Chardstock

Tytherleigh is a village in the civil parish of Chardstock in Devon, England (historically in Dorset), close to the borders with Dorset and Somerset on the A358 road between the towns of Axminster and Chard. It was in Dorset until 1896.The place-name, first recorded in 1154 as Tiderlege, is from the Old English tīedre "thin" or "tender" and lēah "woodland", and therefore means "thin or tender woodland".The Tytherleigh Arms public house in the village displays the Tytherleigh family coat of arms on its sign. The Tytherleigh family lived at Tytherleigh Manor for about 500 years until 1729. Part of Tytherleigh manor house survives as a farmhouse, dating from the 16th century, with a gateway arch bearing the family coat of arms.The village is on the route of the Fosse Way Roman Road.

It is within Tatworth and Forton civil parish, and the electoral ward of the same name. Tatworth is a large village, consisting of a number of smaller villages including South Chard, Perry Street and Chard Junction which are close together. The hamlet of Forton lies to the north, towards Chard.

The Church of St John the Evangelist is a Church of England parish church in Tatworth, Somerset, England. It was built in 1850–51 to the design of Charles Pinch of Bath and is a Grade II listed building.

The parish was created in 1990 from part of the neighbouring parish of Chardstock.

The Blackwater River is a 10-kilometre (6.2 mi) long river in the counties of Dorset and Devon, in the south-west of England. It rises to the north of Marshwood in Dorset, flowing north and west to join the River Axe at a point north of Axminster in Devon. For most of its length it forms the county boundary between Dorset and Devon.

Smallridge is a large hamlet in All Saints parish in the East Devon district of Devon, England. The hamlet is situated about 1 mile north of the town of Axminster. It is close to the A358 road, and is within the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It used to have a village pub, however this is now a 'country hotel' restaurant, The Ridgeway Inn.

Wambrook is a village and civil parish in the Blackdown Hills, Somerset, England. The village lies about 2 miles (3 km) southwest of the town of Chard. The parish includes the hamlets of Higher Wambrook and Lower Wambrook which is sometimes known as Haselcombe. Ferne Animal Sanctuary is in the west of the parish.

Stowell Meadow (grid reference ST333062) is a 2.8 hectare (6.9 acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest near Tatworth in Somerset, notified in 1987. Stowell Meadow supports a nationally rare type of traditionally managed wet neutral grassland. Alder woodland and plant communities typical of marshy grassland are also present. 90 species of plant have been recorded to date, several of which have a local distribution in Somerset. A number of nationally scarce species of beetle have already been recorded.

The Anglican Church of St Mary in Wambrook, Somerset, England, was built in the 13th century. It is a Grade II* listed building.

The Anglican Church of St Mary the Virgin in Chard, Somerset, England dates from the late 11th century and was rebuilt in the 15th century. It has been designated as a Grade I listed building. Due to the effects of a leak in the roof it was added to the Heritage at Risk Register in 2013. The Perpendicular cruciform church has an aisled nave and north and south porches. The north transept has an oak roof, which was refurbished in 1975. The south transept contains the organ, built in 1883. The church used to have galleries. The Fawcus chapel in the north aisle, dedicated to a local physician, includes the Brewer Memorial .The west tower was built between 1505 and 1520 and contains a peal of eight bells, of which two were made in the 1790s by Thomas Bilbie of the Bilbie family in Cullompton. The three-stage tower has moulded string courses and an angle stair turret in the north-west corner. The clock chimes each quarter-hour in a setting often known as Chard Chimes.There is a church room built in 1827.The parish is part of the benefice of Chard, St. Mary with Combe St Nicholas, Wambrook and Whitestaunton within the deanery of Crewkerne and Ilminster.
