St Mary's Church is a church in Ashby Magna, Leicestershire. It is a Grade II* listed building.

Ashby Magna is a small English village and civil parish in the Harborough district of Leicestershire. The parish has a population of 294, increasing at the 2011 census to 347. It is in the west of the district, and lies midway between junctions 20 and 21 of the M1. Nearby places are Willoughby Waterleys, Peatling Parva and Dunton Bassett. The village is of Danish origin and recorded in the Domesday Book as 'Essebi' or 'Asseby'. Its name derives from the 'ash' tree, from 'by', Old Danish for a farmstead or settlement, and from 'Magna', Latin for great. It was large by medieval standards but the population has remained static at around 300-400. The Anglican church of St Mary's is a grade II* listed building currently on Historic England's Heritage at Risk Register as being in a poor state and it has been the subject of heritage crime.

Peatling Magna (also once known as “Great Petlyng” and later as “Great Peatling”) is a village in Harborough district, south Leicestershire. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 210. It lies 3.7 km north-east of Ashby Magna and 2.9 km north-north-east of Peatling Parva.

Peatling Parva is a village and civil parish in the Harborough district, south Leicestershire, England. It lies 2.6 km west-north-west of Ashby Magna and 2.9 km south-south-west of Peatling Magna. The village is recorded in the Domesday Book from 1086 and was known as Alia Petlinge with listed landowners Howard, from Hugh de Grandmesnil, and Leofric, from Adelaide wife of Hugh de Grandmensil.The population was recorded as 159 in the 1841 census and 181 in the census of 2001. A village church, St Andrews Church, is part of the Diocese of Leicester of the Church of England. The village also has a public house, The Shires Inn. A village hall was built in 1989 and holds local meetings of the Parish Council. It is a regular polling station for local, national and European elections and hosts performances from Centre Stage, a rural and community touring scheme. Peatling Parva lies adjacent to the villages of Gilmorton and Bruntingthorpe, home to the Bruntingthorpe Aerodrome and Proving Ground.

Countesthorpe railway station was a railway station serving Countesthorpe in Leicestershire. The station was on the Midland Counties Railway main line to Rugby, and it opened at some point between 1840 and June 1842. In 1844 the Midland Counties joined the North Midland Railway and the Birmingham and Derby Junction Railway to form the Midland Railway. In 1857 the Midland completed a new main line south to Hitchin and the Leicester – Rugby section of the Midland Counties was relegated to a branch. British Railways closed the Leicester – Rugby line and its stations, including Countesthorpe which closed on 1 January 1962.

Leysland High School was a coeducational middle school with academy status, located in Countesthorpe, Leicestershire, England. It was open for students aged 11–14 (students in KS3). It received the rating of 'Outstanding' from Ofsted in April, 2013. It merged with Countesthorpe Community College to form Countesthorpe Leysland Community College in July 2016.

Ashby Magna was a station on the Great Central Railway, the last main line to be constructed from the north of England to London, which opened in 1899 to serve the Leicestershire village of Ashby Magna. Architecturally, the station was very similar to Whetstone in that it comprised a single island platform designed by Alexander Ross which allowed the tracks to pass either side of a central platform, and was intended to facilitate future expansion of the railway. Access to the station was via a stairway which led down from the road bridge on Station Road.

It lies to the south of Leicester, and is about 6 miles (9.7 km) from the city centre, but only two miles south of the suburb of South Wigston. Nearby places are Blaby and South Wigston to the north, Kilby to the east, Peatling Magna and Willoughby Waterleys to the south, and Broughton Astley, Cosby and Whetstone to the west.The name Countesthorpe originates from the 11th century when the area was part of the marriage dowry of the Countess Judith, niece of William the Conqueror. The 'thorpe' part of the name is a variant of the Middle English word thorp, meaning hamlet or small village.The parish church of St. Andrew was started in 1220 by the family of Lord William of Ludbrook. It was restored in 1840 and again in 1907. The 14th-century tower still remains. The village has three public houses: The Axe and Square, The Bull's Head and The Railway. Another public house, the King William IV was turned into a Tesco Express in 2013. Magna 73 of the Leicestershire Senior League are an association football team who play just north of the village. The village is twinned with the town of Mennecy in France.

Gilmorton is a village and civil parish about 3 miles (5 km) northeast of Lutterworth in Leicestershire, England. The 2011 Census recorded the parish population as 976.

The Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust (LRWT) is one of 46 wildlife trusts across the United Kingdom. It manages nature reserves in Leicestershire and Rutland, and was founded in 1956 as the Leicestershire and Rutland Trust for Nature Conservation. As of January 2018, it has over 16,000 members, a staff of about 25 and more than 500 volunteers. It is based in Leicester, and is managed by a Council of Trustees which is elected by the members. It is a charity which covers all aspects of nature conservation, and works to protect wild places and wildlife.Leicestershire has an area of 833 square miles (2,160 km2), and a population according to the 2011 census of 980,000. Leicester City Council is a unitary authority, and the rest of the county is administered by Leicestershire County Council at the top level, with seven district councils in the second tier, Blaby, Charnwood, Harborough, Hinckley and Bosworth, Melton, North West Leicestershire and Oadby and Wigston. Rutland is mainly rural, but has two market towns, Oakham, the county town, and Uppingham. The largest is Rutland Water at 393 hectares (970 acres), a major wetland area which is one of the richest reservoirs for wintering wildfowl in the country. The smallest is Bloody Oaks Quarry at 1.3 hectares (3.2 acres), which has species-rich grassland on Jurassic limestone.
