Bösingen, Fribourg

Laupen is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district and its district capital, situated in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Laupen District is one of the 26 administrative districts in the canton of Bern, Switzerland. Its capital, while having administrative power, was the municipality of Laupen. From 1 January 2010, the district lost its administrative power while being replaced by the Bern-Mittelland (administrative district), whose administrative centre is Ostermundigen. Since 2010, it remains therefore a fully recognised district under the law and the Constitution (Art.3 al.2) of the Canton of Berne. The district has an area of 88 km² and consisted of 11 municipalities: The municipalities of Clavaleyres and Münchenwiler are enclaved within the canton of Fribourg.

The river Sense (German: Sense; French: Singine; Arpitan: Singena, locally Chindzena [ʃɛ̃ˈdzəna] ) is a right tributary of the river Saane in Switzerland. It is a border river between the Cantons of Fribourg and Bern. Its source rivers, the Kalte Sense, coming from Mount Gantrisch, and Warme Sense, flowing out of lake Schwarzsee, join at Zollhaus and thus form the origin of the Sense. The Sense flows through a gorge of 15 km length, which is popular for whitewater sports, but also for swimming and bathing – especially among nudists. Its main tributary is the river Schwarzwasser. After about 35 km, the Sense joins the Saane river at Laupen. Because the Sense's water level can rise rapidly during hefty rainstorms, it is dangerous to stay near the river bed in uncertain weather conditions.

Laupen BE railway station (German: Bahnhof Laupen BE) is a railway station in the municipality of Laupen, in the Swiss canton of Bern. It is the western terminus of the standard gauge Flamatt–Laupen line of the Sensetalbahn. The station was relocated in 2021.

Laupen Castle (German: Schloss Laupen) is a castle in the municipality of Laupen of the Canton of Bern in Switzerland. It is a Swiss heritage site of national significance.

Gümmenen railway station (German: Bahnhof Gümmenen) is a railway station in the municipality of Ferenbalm, in the Swiss canton of Bern. It is an intermediate stop on the standard gauge Bern–Neuchâtel line of BLS AG. Gümmenen was formerly the northern terminus of the standard gauge Flamatt–Laupen–Gümmenen line to Flamatt, but service beyond Laupen ended in 1993.

Schmitten railway station (German: Bahnhof Schmitten) is a railway station in the municipality of Schmitten, in the Swiss canton of Fribourg. It is an intermediate stop on the standard gauge Lausanne–Bern line of Swiss Federal Railways.

The Gümmenenkrieg was a war between the emergent city-states of Bern and Fribourg in 1331-33 in what is now Switzerland. The war pitted Bern and the new Swiss Confederation against the Habsburg-supported city of Fribourg and local nobles. It was also the first in a series of battles that brought the Habsburgs and Fribourg into prominence in the County of Burgundy. The war ended without resolving anything and led to other wars between Bern and Fribourg.

On 1 January 2022 the former municipalities of Galmiz, Gempenach and Clavaleyres (Canton of Bern) merged into the municipality of Murten.
