Puhinui Reserve

The Puhinui Craters are located in Auckland's Puhinui Reserve and are part of the Auckland volcanic field in the North Island of New Zealand. They were first recognised as volcanic craters in 2011. A cluster of three small maar craters like these is unique in the Auckland volcanic field. Their ages are unknown but most probably all three erupted during the same eruptive episode. They could have been associated with the eruption of nearby Matukutureia (also known as McLaughlin's Mountain) but this is speculation at present. The cluster is composed of three maars, encircled by tuff cones that over tens of thousands of years have been partly breached and eroded by runoff from the small freshwater lakes appearing in the craters shortly after the eruption. Due to the maars' very gentle rise over the otherwise level terrace of Pleistocene age, their volcanic origin had not been recognised earlier. Puhinui Pond Crater, located near the reserve entrance, contains a farm pond. The crater is 200 m × 150 m (660 ft × 490 ft) across and the nearly complete surrounding tuff cone rim rises 1.5–2 m (4.9–6.6 ft) above the pond.Puhinui Arena Crater is breached on both the west and east sides. It is 250 m × 150 m (820 ft × 490 ft) across and its drained and sediment-filled flat floor is 2–2.5 m (6.6–8.2 ft) below the rim of the surrounding tuff ring.Puhinui Eroded Crater lies directly east of Arena Crater on the route of the small stream that drains the latter. Eroded Crater is breached at both west and east ends and its tuff cone partly eroded by the adjacent Puhinui Creek. It is less well-preserved than the other two craters but of similar size.

Matukutūreia (also McLaughlins Mountain) is one of the volcanic cones in the Auckland volcanic field. It has a peak 73 metres above sea level, and was the site of a pā. The scoria cone was originally crescent-shaped and featured Māori terraces and kumara pits, before extensive quarrying reduced it to a pyramid-shaped mound big enough to support the summit water tank for Papatoetoe. A small part of the summit and the eastern side of the cone were left unquarried, plus a large area of lava flows to the south of the cone remains intact. These remaining parts have recently been transferred to Department of Conservation Management, primarily because of the high heritage values of the Matukuturua Stonefields gardens. Matukutūreia and nearby Wiri Mountain are collectively known as Matukurua (also Ngā Matukurua).From July to September 2010, the water tank was removed from the top of Matukutūreia, as part of an agreement when the land was handed over to the Department of Conservation.

Auckland Region Women's Corrections Facility (ARWCF) is a women's prison in the Wiri suburb of South Auckland, New Zealand. Also in the vicinity are the Wiri Mens Corrections Facility and Korowai Manaaki Youth Justice Facility. It opened in 2006 and is the first purpose-built women's prison in New Zealand; there are two older women's prisons. About 6 per cent of the New Zealand prisoner population is female. ± The facility houses about 330 prisoners including remand prisoners - alleged criminals not yet sentenced - as well as normal sentenced prisoners. It has a specialist unit for mothers and babies. A small number of women give birth while serving a sentence of imprisonment and others have young children at the time of sentencing. Some prisoners with babies (up to nine months) may be eligible to live in the mothers and babies unit. The prison is built in a rehabilitated quarry site. Construction of the 38 buildings cost NZ$159 million and was carried out substantially by Sinclair Knight Merz. The site is 47 ha in size, of which 13 ha are currently covered by buildings, leaving room for future expansion, which was included in the design parameters.

The Puhinui Creek, also known as the Puhinui Stream or Te Puhinui, is a major stream in South Auckland, in the Auckland Region of New Zealand's North Island. It flows westwards from Totara Park through Manukau, then southwest at Wiri to the Manukau Harbour.

Matukutūruru (also Te Manurewa o Tamapahore or Wiri Mountain) is a volcano and Tūpuna Maunga (ancestral mountain) in Wiri, in the Auckland volcanic field. It had a scoria cone reaching 80 metres above sea level (around 50 m higher than the surrounding land), which was quarried away. The lava flows created 290m long Wiri Lava Cave. The hill was the site of a pā. In late 2011 the quarry lake was drained and fill-dumping began on the site.Matukutūruru and nearby Matukutūreia are collectively known as Matukurua (also ngā Matukurua).In the 2014 Treaty of Waitangi settlement between the Crown and the Ngā Mana Whenua o Tāmaki Makaurau collective of 13 Auckland iwi and hapu (also known as the Tāmaki Collective), ownership of the 14 Tūpuna Maunga of Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland, was vested to the collective, including the volcano officially named Matukutūruru. The legislation specified that the land be held in trust "for the common benefit of Ngā Mana Whenua o Tāmaki Makaurau and the other people of Auckland". The Tūpuna Maunga o Tāmaki Makaurau Authority or Tūpuna Maunga Authority (TMA) is the co-governance organisation established to administer the 14 Tūpuna Maunga. Auckland Council manages the Tūpuna Maunga under the direction of the TMA.

Wiri lava cave is Auckland's longest known lava cave at around 290 metres. It is part of Matukutūruru (Wiri Mountain) volcano, in the Auckland volcanic field. Because it features rare lava stalactites the cave has garnered international renown. The cave entrance is locked and entry is by permit only. The cave is up to 7.6 by 3.6 m (25 by 12 ft), down to 1.1 by 0.2 m (3 ft 7.3 in by 7.9 in), and is located about 4 m (13 ft) below Wiri Station Rd.

The Pūkaki Creek, also known as the Pūkaki Inlet, is an estuarine river of the Auckland Region of New Zealand's North Island. It flows south from its sources in Māngere and Papatoetoe, entering into the Manukau Harbour. The creek is adjacent to Auckland Airport and Pūkaki Marae.

Wiri railway station is a defunct station on the Southern Line of the Auckland Railway Network in New Zealand. To the north is Puhinui railway station and to the south is Homai railway station. Originally opened on 7 August 1913 as a "tablet station", and fully on 9 December 1913 as a siding and for staff and work trains (not a public station), the station closed on 14 February 2005 because it had the lowest patronage in Auckland.In July 2013, an extensive maintenance facility with stabling for 28 three-car trains was opened near the former station in preparation for the arrival of Auckland's new electric trains.The station is now used for train crew change in Wiri Depot Wiri is the start of the new Third Main Line to be completed by 2024.

Cemetery Crater is one of the volcanoes in the Auckland volcanic field. It is an explosion crater roughly 200 metres (660 ft) wide, located east of Crater Hill. Hard to see even in early aerial photos due to its shallowness, it is now covered by housing. It was first recognised by Ernie Searle in the 1960s. He named it because of its proximity to the cemetery in Puhinui Rd, but the Southwestern Motorway has now been constructed between the crater and the cemetery.

Wiroa Island, also known as Kohia, is an island in Manukau Harbour, New Zealand. The island is located at the mouth of the Pūkaki Creek, directly southeast of Auckland Airport.

Clendon Park School is a primary school (Years 1–8) in Manurewa, a suburb of Manukau City, Auckland Region, New Zealand. Clendon Park has two bilingual units (Years 1–8). A Maori bilingual unit (Te Whanau Awhina) was established in 2000 and it currently consists of seven classes. The students in this unit often achieve above the national norms. A Samoan bilingual unit (Tautua Mo Tupulaga) began in 2006 and it currently comprises five classes.

Clendon Park is a suburb of Auckland in northern New Zealand. It is located to the west of Manurewa and north of Weymouth. The suburb is in the Manurewa-Papakura ward, one of the 21 local boards of Auckland Council.
