Wiri Lava Cave

Matukutūruru (also Te Manurewa o Tamapahore or Wiri Mountain) is a volcano and Tūpuna Maunga (ancestral mountain) in Wiri, in the Auckland volcanic field. It had a scoria cone reaching 80 metres above sea level (around 50 m higher than the surrounding land), which was quarried away. The lava flows created 290m long Wiri Lava Cave. The hill was the site of a pā. In late 2011 the quarry lake was drained and fill-dumping began on the site.Matukutūruru and nearby Matukutūreia are collectively known as Matukurua (also ngā Matukurua).In the 2014 Treaty of Waitangi settlement between the Crown and the Ngā Mana Whenua o Tāmaki Makaurau collective of 13 Auckland iwi and hapu (also known as the Tāmaki Collective), ownership of the 14 Tūpuna Maunga of Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland, was vested to the collective, including the volcano officially named Matukutūruru. The legislation specified that the land be held in trust "for the common benefit of Ngā Mana Whenua o Tāmaki Makaurau and the other people of Auckland". The Tūpuna Maunga o Tāmaki Makaurau Authority or Tūpuna Maunga Authority (TMA) is the co-governance organisation established to administer the 14 Tūpuna Maunga. Auckland Council manages the Tūpuna Maunga under the direction of the TMA.

Wiri railway station is a defunct station on the Southern Line of the Auckland Railway Network in New Zealand. To the north is Puhinui railway station and to the south is Homai railway station. Originally opened on 7 August 1913 as a "tablet station", and fully on 9 December 1913 as a siding and for staff and work trains (not a public station), the station closed on 14 February 2005 because it had the lowest patronage in Auckland.In July 2013, an extensive maintenance facility with stabling for 28 three-car trains was opened near the former station in preparation for the arrival of Auckland's new electric trains.The station is now used for train crew change in Wiri Depot Wiri is the start of the new Third Main Line to be completed by 2024.

Auckland Region Women's Corrections Facility (ARWCF) is a women's prison in the Wiri suburb of South Auckland, New Zealand. Also in the vicinity are the Wiri Mens Corrections Facility and Korowai Manaaki Youth Justice Facility. It opened in 2006 and is the first purpose-built women's prison in New Zealand; there are two older women's prisons. About 6 per cent of the New Zealand prisoner population is female. ± The facility houses about 330 prisoners including remand prisoners - alleged criminals not yet sentenced - as well as normal sentenced prisoners. It has a specialist unit for mothers and babies. A small number of women give birth while serving a sentence of imprisonment and others have young children at the time of sentencing. Some prisoners with babies (up to nine months) may be eligible to live in the mothers and babies unit. The prison is built in a rehabilitated quarry site. Construction of the 38 buildings cost NZ$159 million and was carried out substantially by Sinclair Knight Merz. The site is 47 ha in size, of which 13 ha are currently covered by buildings, leaving room for future expansion, which was included in the design parameters.

Ash Hill is a volcano in Wiri, in the Auckland volcanic field, in New Zealand. A low tuff cone with an explosion crater about 150m wide, it is now covered by industrial development. It peaked at roughly 30 metres above sea level (approximately 8 metres higher than the surrounding land). Ash Hill was named after nearby Ash Road by Searle. Ash Road was named after ash trees, not volcanic ash. Radiocarbon dating gave Ash Hill the age of 31,800 +/- 159 calendar years BP, a similar age to nearby Wiri Mountain.

Matukutūreia (also McLaughlins Mountain) is one of the volcanic cones in the Auckland volcanic field. It has a peak 73 metres above sea level, and was the site of a pā. The scoria cone was originally crescent-shaped and featured Māori terraces and kumara pits, before extensive quarrying reduced it to a pyramid-shaped mound big enough to support the summit water tank for Papatoetoe. A small part of the summit and the eastern side of the cone were left unquarried, plus a large area of lava flows to the south of the cone remains intact. These remaining parts have recently been transferred to Department of Conservation Management, primarily because of the high heritage values of the Matukuturua Stonefields gardens. Matukutūreia and nearby Wiri Mountain are collectively known as Matukurua (also Ngā Matukurua).From July to September 2010, the water tank was removed from the top of Matukutūreia, as part of an agreement when the land was handed over to the Department of Conservation.

Wiri is a mostly industrial-commercial focused suburb in Auckland, New Zealand. It was formerly part of Manukau City until the merger of all of Auckland's councils into the 'super city' in 2010. The area was named after the chief Takaanini Wirihana. The Wiri inland port connects road freight to the Ports of Auckland on the Waitemata Harbour further north. The inland port allows the Ports of Auckland to reduce the number of trucks that have to travel through the Auckland Central area by up to 100,000 trips per year.Auckland Region Women's Corrections Facility (ARWCF) is located in Wiri. ARWCF is the first purpose-built women's prison in New Zealand to accommodate a growing number of female prisoners and services in the upper North Island. The facility can accommodate 286 prisoners and employs 167 staff.The adjacent Auckland South Corrections Facility is a high security men's prison which opened in 2015. It is operated by Serco New Zealand under a Public Private Partnership with the Department of Corrections. at 20 Hautu Drive, Wiri.As part of the Auckland railway electrification project, the $100 million EMU maintenance and stabling depot was built on 4.4 hectares of the old Winstone Quarry in Wiri, located next to the South-Western Motorway and bordered by Roscommon and Wiri Station Roads. It was officially opened by the Mayor of Auckland on 5 July 2013.The Wiri railway station was opened from 1913 and closed in 2005 due to low patronage, the EMU maintenance facility was built on the former site. The Matukutūruru (Wiri Mountain) and Matukutūreia (McLaughlins Mountain) volcanoes are in Wiri. Much of the land within the suburb of Wiri was formed through lava flows originating from these mountains.

Baitul Muqueet Mosque is an Ahmadi Muslim mosque in Manurewa, Auckland, New Zealand. At the time of opening of the mosque, it was the largest mosque in the country.

Clendon Park School is a primary school (Years 1–8) in Manurewa, a suburb of Manukau City, Auckland Region, New Zealand. Clendon Park has two bilingual units (Years 1–8). A Maori bilingual unit (Te Whanau Awhina) was established in 2000 and it currently consists of seven classes. The students in this unit often achieve above the national norms. A Samoan bilingual unit (Tautua Mo Tupulaga) began in 2006 and it currently comprises five classes.

Puhinui railway station is a station of the Auckland rail network and is located in Papatoetoe, Auckland, New Zealand. Passenger services on the Eastern Line and Southern Line use the station. It is accessed from Puhinui Road from both sides of the tracks via a pedestrian bridge located at the site of a former level crossing (Puhinui Road itself now crosses on a bridge approximately 120m north of the pedestrian bridge). This is the nearest public transport access to the main cemetery for South Auckland; Manukau cemetery at 361 Puhinui Road, Wiri. South of this station, Eastern Line and Southern Line services diverge, the Eastern onto the Manukau Branch which terminates at Manukau. The Southern continues south via Homai toward Papakura.

Destiny Church is a New Zealand fundamentalist, Christian pentecostalist movement that has its headquarters in Auckland, and is politically placed on the far-right. The church advocates strict adherence to biblical morality, and has a reputation for its position against homosexuality, for its patriarchal views and for its calls for a return to biblical conservative family values and morals. It also teaches prosperity theology and, more recently, COVID-19 conspiracy theories, the latter of which includes the denial of the virus' existence altogether.Led by Brian Tamaki, whose actions and rhetoric have attracted criticism from the New Zealand media and from other public figures, Destiny Church has sponsored a nationwide rally against civil unions, issued a DVD which labels the Government of New Zealand as "evil", ordained Tamaki as bishop over all local Destiny churches, and held a gathering of 700 men who swore a "covenant" oath of allegiance, obedience, and deference to Tamaki. The church has led a strong campaign that opposes COVID-19 vaccination, lockdowns and mask mandates since the pandemic began in New Zealand, and are currently engaging in sporadically violent protests against mandates at Parliament. These actions have led to Destiny Church being condemned worldwide, Tamaki being briefly imprisoned for breaching bail conditions as he took part in an anti-vaccination protest in Christchurch. In 2022, Destiny Church's tax-free charity status was revoked.

South Auckland (Māori: Te Tonga o Tāmaki Makaurau) is one of the major geographical regions of Auckland, the largest city in New Zealand. The area is south of the Auckland isthmus, and on the eastern shores of the Manukau Harbour. The area has been populated by Tāmaki Māori since at least the 14th century, and has important archaeological sites, such as the Ōtuataua stonefield gardens at Ihumātao, and Māngere Mountain, a former pā site important to Waiohua tribes. The area was primarily farmland until the mid-20th century, when the construction of the Auckland Southern Motorway led to major suburban development, and the establishing of Manukau City, which was later amalgamated into Auckland. Large-scale state housing areas were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, which led to significant Urban Māori and Pasifika communities developing in the area.

Manukau railway station is located at the heart of the campus of the Manukau Institute of Technology in Manukau, a suburb of Auckland, New Zealand. It is the terminus station for Eastern Line services between Manukau and Britomart Transport Centre in central Auckland. Access from the station to ground level and to surrounding streets is by stairs, lift or escalator to the ground floor of the 7-level campus building.Station works were essentially finished by October 2011, and the Manukau Branch line, a 2.5 km spur line off the North Island Main Trunk railway, opened on 15 April 2012. Manukau station is the only station on the branch line. The Eastern Line was the second passenger rail line in Auckland to receive electric train services, following the Onehunga Line in April 2014. Electric trains began running on some Eastern Line off-peak services on 15 August 2014, and were gradually rolled out onto all services over the following month. In December 2014, all trains using the Eastern Line began terminating at Manukau rather than alternating between Manukau and Papakura. Similarly, all Southern Line trains began terminating at Papakura or Pukekohe. In April 2018, Manukau was the 11th busiest train station on the Auckland network with an average of 1,650 passengers on a typical weekday.
