Goripalayam is a locality situated in Madurai city of Madurai district in the state of Tamil Nadu in the peninsular India.

Goripalayam Mosque is a large mosque in Goripalayam (part of Madurai City) containing two graves (tombs) of Sultans of Yemen namely Khaja Syed Sultan Alauddin Badusha Razi and Khaja Syed Sulthan Shamsuddin of the Madurai Sultanate. There is also one invisible grave of Khaja Syed Sultan Habibuddin Razi who is also known as Ghaibi Sulthan who came to India to spread Islam. Its dome is 70 feet (21 m) in diameter and 20 feet (6.1 m) in height and made of a single block of stone which was brought from the Azhaga Hills. It is said that it was built by Thirumalai Nayak for his Muslim subjects.

Lady Doak College (LDC) is the first women's college in Madurai in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It was founded in 1948 by Katie Wilcox, an American missionary near Tallakulam in Madurai. Today there are around 3200 students. This number was only 86 at formation. It is named after Helen Doak, the associate founder.

Tamukkam Palace is a palace located in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. Literally the Tamil word Tamukkam (Tamil:தமுக்கம்) means summer house. Taken over by the British, Tamukkam became the official residence of the District Collectors. It now houses the Mahatma Gandhi Museum.

Kovalanpottal is a place located in Palanganatham near Madakulam in Madurai district, Tamil Nadu, India. As per Tamil epic Silappatikaram, Kovalan is believed to be beheaded here by the orders of Pandyan king Neduncheziyan. The American College, often referred to as American College, is one of the oldest colleges in India, located in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. It was founded in 1881 by American Christian missionaries. The red-brick buildings, in the Saracenic style, blend with the natural surroundings constructed by British architect Henry Irwin.
