Arne (river)

Arnemuiden is a railway station in Arnemuiden, The Netherlands. The station was opened on 1 March 1872 and is on the Roosendaal–Vlissingen railway. The station is operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen. When built, the station was on the northern side of the village. The village has now grown further north so the station is now in the centre. Arnemuiden was basically furnished and consisted only of a station and a small goods shed. In 1877 the yard was extended with a freight siding. The cargo consisted mainly of outgoing fish, shrimp and sugar beet, and receiving coal and food. Until the 1960s, little changed in the yard. In the sixties the sidings gradually fell into disuse. In 1969 they were decommissioned. Since the end of the 1970s, the village has also expanded to the other side of the railway. As with many small stations on the Zeeland Line, the two platforms do not lie opposite each other, but are on either side of a level crossing. There are bicycle lockers and two unguarded bicycle parking facilities. There is parking for cars.

Nooitgedacht is a wooden octagonal windmill in Zeeuwse Arnemuiden in the Dutch municipality of Middelburg. The windmill was built in 1981 as a replacement for a windmill was built in 1736 but burned down in 1977.

Arnemuiden is a city of around 5000 people in the municipality of Middelburg in the province of Zeeland in the Netherlands. It is located on the former island of Walcheren, about 3 km east of the city of Middelburg. On the 23 September 1338, at the start of the Hundred Years' War between England and France, a naval battle was held near Arnemuiden. It was the first naval battle of the Hundred Years' War and the first naval battle using artillery, as the English ship Christofer had three cannons and one handgun.In 1573, Arnemuiden was destroyed by Spanish troops and more than 300 citizens were killed. Even though only a couple of hundred people were left, it received city rights in 1574.Until 1997, Arnemuiden was a separate municipality. Arnemuiden has a railway station - Arnemuiden railway station. A substantial part of the inhabitants of Arnemuiden have been a fisherman in some part of their life. This explains the immense popularity of tattoos and fishing ship earrings in the village. "De klok van Arnemuiden" is a Dutch song about the church clock at the Arnemuiden central market.

Nieuwland is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It existed until 1816, when it was merged with Sint Joosland to form the new municipality of Nieuw- en Sint Joosland.Nieuwland is also the former name of the current village of Nieuw- en Sint Joosland.

Kleverskerke is a small village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is located in the municipality of Middelburg, about 4 kilometres north-east of the city centre.

Nieuw- en Sint Joosland of Nieuwland (Zeeuws: 't Nieuwland) is a village and a former municipality in the southeast of Walcheren, at the edge of the island, in the municipality Middelburg, in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It has about 1300 inhabitants. Because of its relatively late foundation, Nieuw- en Sint Joosland is not a churchvillage, but more of a wegdorp, despite its clear village centre.

The Sloedam is 1 km long a dam, that was constructed in 1871, as a necessary part of the Roosendaal-Vlissingen Railway, the so-called Zeeuwse Lijn (Zealandic Line). Additionnaly this dam connected the island of Walcheren with Zuid-Beveland across the Sloe waterway, and therefore with the mainland of Brabant.

Sint Joosland is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It existed until 1816, when it was merged with Nieuwland to form the new municipality of Nieuw- en Sint Joosland. The municipality consisted of a single polder southeast of the current village of Nieuw- en Sint Joosland.

The Battle of Walcheren Causeway (Operation Vitality) was an engagement of the Battle of the Scheldt between the 5th Canadian Infantry Brigade, elements of the British 52nd (Lowland) Infantry Division and troops of the German 15th Army in 1944. It was the first of many conflicts on and around Walcheren Island during the Scheldt battles. It was also the second major battle fought over a terrain feature known as the Sloedam during the Second World War.

Zanddijk is a neighbourhood of Veere and former village in the municipality of Veere, Zeeland, Netherlands.

The Veerse Meer (Lake Veere) is a lagoon in the southwest Netherlands in the province of Zeeland.

The Veerse Gat or Veeregat was the sea channel between Walcheren and Noord-Beveland islands in Zeeland in the Netherlands. In 1961 as part of the Delta Plan it was blocked off and made into an inland lake called Veerse Meer.
