Totness consists mainly of industrial zoned areas. It is commonly referred to as Mount Barker or Littlehampton but is actually a town of its own. There is no street sign indicating you are entering Totness. Its windmill is the oldest surviving building in the Hahndorf - Mt Barker area. It is about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) from Mount Barker, and 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) from Littlehampton, but the towns have merged due to growth. It is also home to the Totness Recreation Park. Totness was first subdivided in the 1880s, without regard to its contours. Part of the movie 'Ned Kelly', starring Mick Jagger, was filmed on Totness Rd.

Totness Recreation Park (formerly Totness National Parks Reserve) is a protected area in the Australian state of South Australia located within the localities of Mount Barker and Totness in the central Mount Lofty Ranges. Covering 41 hectares (101 acres) of land, the park is divided by the South Eastern Freeway and features a large dam. It was declared as a reserve in 1970 and re-designated as a recreation park in 1972. The park has no visitor facilities except for access tracks. It is the only park in the district, managed by the Department of Environment and Water, that is solely designated for recreation. While parts of the park are dominated by pest plant species, primarily gorse and blackberry, it has native plant communities that are of conservation significance. messmate stringybark and manna gum woodlands are of particular note, being now uncommon in much of their former range across the Mount Lofty Ranges.

Hahndorf is a small town in the Adelaide Hills region of South Australia. Currently an important tourism spot, it has previously been a centre for farming and services.

Hahndorf Hill Winery, also known as HHW, is a boutique vineyard situated adjacent to the historic, German-heritage village of Hahndorf, South Australia, in the Adelaide Hills wine region. Owners Larry Jacobs and Marc Dobson acquired the Hahndorf Hill property in 2002 and subsequently made considerable changes to the vineyard plantings, including the promotion and development of Austrian grape varieties such as Grüner Veltliner, Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt. A fourth Austrian variety, St. Laurent, was planted at the Hahndorf Hill vineyard in 2015.After importing three different clones of Grüner Veltliner from Austria into Australia in 2006, and a further three clones/clonal selections in 2009, Hahndorf Hill Winery became the first producer of Grüner Veltliner in South Australia in 2010. It is currently Australia's only producer of Blaufränkisch. The winery has produced a Zweigelt rosé since 2012. Other grape varieties grown at Hahndorf Hill include Trollinger, Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz.

Littlehampton is a village in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia, located on the Old Princes Highway. It is approximately 35 minutes from the Adelaide CBD via the South Eastern Freeway. At the time of the 2016 Australian census, Littlehampton had a population of 3,522.Littlehampton was laid out in 1849 by Benjamin Gray, who named it after his native town in Sussex. By 1890, the village had become a busy industrial centre with a sawmill, brewery and various manufacturers producing jams, sauces, bacon, wattle extract. There were five brick works. Littlehampton Bricks, which continues to operate today, was established in 1913, developing from another brickyard–Coppins–on the opposite side of the main road into Littlehampton. The 1862 church on Main Street—North Tce and now Princes Hwy—was one of the oldest active Churches in South Australia until 2020. This United Church ceased services due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mount Barker is a city in South Australia. Located approximately 33 kilometres (21 miles) from the Adelaide city centre, it is home to 16,629 residents. It is the seat of the District Council of Mount Barker, the largest town in the Adelaide Hills, and one of the fastest-growing areas in the state. Mount Barker lies at the base of a local eponymous peak called the Mount Barker summit. It is 50 kilometres from the Murray River. Mount Barker was traditionally a farming area, and many of the lots just outside the town area are farming lots, although some of them have been replaced with new subdivisions in recent times.

Mount Barker was an electoral district of the House of Assembly in the Australian state of South Australia from 1857 to 1902.Mount Barker was also the name of one of the sixteen districts in the unicameral South Australian Legislative Council, which existed from July 1851 to February 1857; John Baker was the elected representative.The town of Mount Barker is currently represented by the safe Liberal seat of Kavel.

Cornerstone College is an independent, Lutheran, co-educational, secondary, day school, located at Mount Barker in the Adelaide Hills south-east of Adelaide, South Australia. The College is a non-selective school, currently catering for approximately 900 students from Years 7 to 12. Since 2014, the College has also catered for Year 7 students. Facilities include a library, a basketball court, gymnasium, a canteen, an oval and a theatre. The school has a tradition of naming new facilities in a foreign language, the canteen is called Cibo Bello (Italian for 'beautiful food'), the gym is called Inbarendi (aboriginal for 'meet one another'), the library is called Anakalypsi (Greek for 'discovery') and the arts building is called Atelier. The houses are Battunga (green), Naturi (yellow), Moorak (red) and Aroona (blue). The house names are derived from local aboriginal words. Cornerstone is affiliated with the Association of Independent Schools of South Australia (AISSA), the Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia (AHISA), and Lutheran Education Australia (LEA).

The Mount Barker District Council is a local government area centred on the town of Mount Barker just outside the Adelaide metropolitan area in South Australia. The council was first established in October 1853. It expanded to four times its original size on 1 May 1935 as part of a major series of council amalgamations, absorbing the District Council of Nairne and parts of the District Council of Echunga and the District Council of Macclesfield.

Cox Creek, also Cox's Creek, previously Cock's Creek, is a small stream in the southern Adelaide Hills. Cox's Creek was also the name of the settlement which became Bridgewater, South Australia.

Mount Barker High School is a public high school located in the Adelaide Hills, 34 kilometres east of Adelaide. It was founded in 1908, celebrating its centenary in 2008.

Mount Barker railway station is a preserved railway station in South Australia on the Victor Harbor line, formerly operated by South Australian Railways and its successor, Australian National. With only broad gauge track running through the station, it has been disconnected from the Adelaide metropolitan network since the standardisation of the Adelaide-Wolseley line in 1995. It is still used by SteamRanger, a heritage train operator between Mount Barker and Victor Harbor.
