Ayer, Switzerland

Anniviers is a municipality in the district of Sierre in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. It was formed through the merger of six municipalities in Val d'Anniviers: Ayer, Chandolin, Grimentz, Saint-Jean, Saint-Luc and Vissoie. The merger became effective 1 January 2009, creating the third largest municipality of Switzerland by area.

Saint-Jean is a village in the district of Sierre in the Swiss canton of Valais. An independent municipality before, it merged on 1 January 2009 with neighboring Ayer, Chandolin, Grimentz, Saint-Luc and Vissoie to form the municipality of Anniviers.

The Val d'Anniviers (old name in German Eifischtal) is a Swiss Alpine valley, situated in the district of Sierre in Valais, which extends south of the Rhône Valley, on the northern slopes of the Pennine Alps. The valley was home to six municipalities: Ayer, Chandolin, Grimentz, Saint-Jean, Saint-Luc and Vissoie. The citizens of those municipalities agreed on November 26, 2006, to merge into one, which was named Anniviers. The merger took place in January 2009.

The Corne de Sorebois is a mountain in the Pennine Alps in Switzerland. It is located near Zinal in Valais. Sorebois is the name of an alpine pasture on the east slopes of the mountain.

Vissoie is a village in the district of Sierre in the Swiss canton of Valais. The village became an independent municipality in 1905 when it split from the municipalities of Ayer and Grimentz. However, on 1 January 2009 it merged with neighboring Ayer, Chandolin, Grimentz, Saint Jean and Saint-Luc to form the municipality of Anniviers.

François-Xavier Bagnoud Observatory (Observatoire François-Xavier Bagnoud) is an astronomical observatory. It is a non-profit organisation funded by Association François-Xavier Bagnoud. It is located above the village of Saint-Luc, Switzerland, close to the top of the funicular, at a height of 2,200 m (7,200 ft).It has 60 cm (24 in) and 15 cm (5.9 in) telescopes, as well as a heliostat, a weather station, a planetarium and a planet trail between the observatory and the funicular.

Zinal is a village in Switzerland, located in the municipality of Anniviers in the canton of Valais. It lies at an elevation of 1,675 metres (5,495 ft) above sea level in the Swiss Alps in the Val de Zinal, a valley running from the Zinal Glacier, north of Dent Blanche to the village of Ayer, part of the Val d'Anniviers. With the Dent Blanche, four additional 4,000-metre (13,120 ft) peaks are located around the valley: Bishorn, Weisshorn, Zinalrothorn, and Ober Gabelhorn.

Le Toûno (3,018 m) is a mountain of the Pennine Alps, overlooking Saint-Luc in the canton of Valais. It lies within the Val d'Anniviers, west of the Pointe de Tourtemagne. The summit can be accessed via a trail on the south side of the mountain from Saint-Luc.

The Sex de Marinda is a mountain of the Swiss Pennine Alps, located south of Grimentz in the canton of Valais. It lies east of the Sasseneire, 90 km south of capital Bern. The peak level is 2906 meters above the sea level, 117 meters above the surrounding terrain. Width at its peak's base is 0.55 km. Terrain near Sex de Marinda is mountainous. The highest point nearby is Sasseneire, 3,254 meters above sea level, 2.3 km southwest of Sex de Marinda.
