Sausenburg Castle is a ruined German castle on the edge of the Black Forest, just north of the town of Kandern in Baden-Württemberg, between the villages of Sitzenkirch and Malsburg-Marzell. The castle was originally the stronghold of the lords of Sausenburg, and is built on a hill, 665 metres high, known as the Sausenberg.

Kandern is a town in southwestern Germany in the state of Baden-Württemberg, in the Kreis (district) of Lörrach. During the Battle of Schliengen, in which the French Revolutionary army fought the forces of Austria, the battle lines of both armies ended in Kandern. It is not far from a tripoint where the three countries Germany, France and Switzerland meet and is one of the smallest cities in Germany. To many in North America, Kandern is best known as the birthplace of John Sutter, who owned the land that gold was discovered in 1848, which sparked the California gold rush, and the beginning of intensive settlement in California. Today, Kandern has a large community of English-speaking residents as a result of the presence of Black Forest Academy. This is an English-language institution founded in 1956. Most of the students are children of international business professionals from around the world, mainly from the United States, Canada, and South Korea. The coat of arms of Kandern is a pitcher on a yellow background. The blazon is Or a covered Jug Gules.

Black Forest Academy (BFA) is a private, Christian, coeducational, English-speaking boarding school serving grades 5 through 12. The school campus is located in Kandern, Germany. BFA houses students in several residence halls in Kandern and the surrounding villages. Boarding is only allowed for high school students (grades 9-12), but students whose families live locally may attend BFA's middle school (grades 5-8).

Blauen or Hochblauen is a 1,165-metre-high (3,820 ft) mountain in the southern Black Forest. The peak lies within the municipalities of Schliengen and Malsburg-Marzell in Landkreis Lörrach and the community of Badenweiler in Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald. It is an ideal viewpoint with views of the Black Forest, Vosges, Jura Mountains, and the Alps.

Malsburg-Marzell is a municipality in the district of Lörrach in Baden-Württemberg in Germany. Its coat of arms bears a wooded hill on which rests a castle ruin. This is a reference to the nearby Sausenburg.

The Battle on the Scheideck (German: Gefecht auf der Scheideck or Scheidegg), also known as the Battle of Kandern (Gefecht bei Kandern) took place on 20 April 1848 during the Baden Revolution on the Scheideck Pass southeast of Kandern in south Baden in what is now southwest Germany. Friedrich Hecker's Baden band of revolutionaries encountered troops of the German Confederation under the command of General Friedrich von Gagern. After several negotiations and some skirmishing a short battle ensued on the Scheideck, in which von Gagern fell and the rebels were scattered. The German Federal Army took up the pursuit and dispersed a second revolutionary force that same day under the leadership of Joseph Weißhaar. The Battle on the Scheideck was the end of the road for the two rebel forces. After the battle, there were disputes over the circumstances of von Gagern's death.

Badenweiler (High Alemannic: Badewiler) is a health resort and spa in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district of Baden-Württemberg, Germany, historically in the Markgräflerland. It is 28 kilometers by road and rail from Basel, 10 kilometers from the French border, and 20 kilometers from Mulhouse. The nearest big city on the German side of the border is Freiburg, about 30 kilometers away. Badenweiler lies at the western edge of the Black Forest. It is sheltered by the Blauen, 1,164 m (3,820 ft), and the climate is excellent. Its parish (Evangelical) church (1897) was built at the foot of an 11th-century castle which belonged to the margraves of Baden and was destroyed by the French during the wars of Louis XV. Many visitors come to Badenweiler for the warm mineral springs, with temperatures of 21 °C (70 °F), others for its whey cure, and still others on account of its equable climate and picturesque surroundings. There is a Kurhaus and a park of 15 acres (61,000 m²) containing a historic arboretum (the Staatliche Baderverwaltung Badenweiler), as well as a grand-ducal castle. In 1784, the well-preserved Roman baths were discovered there.

The Staatliche Baderverwaltung Badenweiler (12 hectares) is a historic arboretum located in the city Kurpark at Kaiserstrasse 5, Badenweiler, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is open daily without charge. The arboretum dates to 1758 when Charles Frederick, Grand Duke of Baden, planted a walnut allée along the hill with its Roman ruins, which was subsequently extended in 1824-1828 by Johann Michael Hofrat Zeyher (1770–1843) to create a small landscape garden. The current Kurpark and arboretum, however, are primarily the work of Ernst Kraut Inger (1824–1898), Grand Ducal Park Director from 1850–1897, who collected trees from around the world to create an English landscape park. Many of today's trees date to this period, as do garden features such as swan ponds. Today the garden contains extensive plantings of exotic trees, including mature sequoias, cedars, palm trees, eucalyptus, bananas, lemons, oleanders, hibiscus, and magnolias, as well as fine specimens of Prunus, Quercus, Rosa, Sorbus and Viburnum species and varietals.

Wies is a village and a former municipality in the district of Lörrach in Baden-Württemberg in Germany. Since 1 January 2009, it is part of the municipality Kleines Wiesental.

Müllheim (High Alemannic: Mille) is a town in Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany. It belongs to the district Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald. Müllheim is generally considered to be the center of the region known as Markgräflerland.

Sallneck is a village and a former municipality in the district of Lörrach in Baden-Württemberg in Germany. Since 1 January 2009, it is part of the municipality Kleines Wiesental.

Wollbach is a river of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is a left tributary of the Kander in Wollbach, a district of Kandern.
