Pechina is a municipality of Province of Almería, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain. It is on the site of the ancient town of Urci. Pechina, called Bajjāna in Arabic, was the centre of a Yemeni colony during the period of the Umayyad caliphate in Spain. Founded before 886, the self-governing colony was known as the ursh al-Yaman. In 922 it was incorporated into the caliphate. It oversaw a ribat (fortress) and maintained its own navy that could be put use for piracy or official Umayyad campaigns. Between 939 and 944 it took part in four expeditions against the Franks, Idrisids and Fatimids. By 955, it had been eclipsed by Almería.

Estadio Municipal Juan Rojas is a rugby stadium in Almería, Spain. It was initially used as the stadium of football club AD Almería as well as UD Almería matches until it was replaced by Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos in 2004. The capacity of the stadium is 13,468 spectators. In 2017, the stadium was partially demolished to expand the pitch, in order to be able to host the rugby union matches of the local team UR Almería. It was finally re-inaugurated on 8 September 2018.

The University of Almería (Spanish: Universidad de Almería, UAL) is a public university situated in Almería, Spain. Located on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea, it belongs to the La Cañada de San Urbano district of Almería City. In 2008 the university offered 38 different degree programmes, with 871 lecturers, and 11,825 students.At the time of its foundation, its initial governing was assigned to D. Alberto Fernández Gutiérrez, as Vice-Chancellor. In 2007 Pedro Molina García was elected rector. He was succeeded by Carmelo Rodríguez Torreblanca, who obtained the 68.24% of the votes, elected by the university community in the elections that took place in early 2015, taking over from D. Alfredo Martinez Almécija. He was reelected on 28 May 2019 with 87% of votes. Carmelo was succeeded by José Céspedes with the 55.6% of the votes (2.285) against Diego Valera, who obtained 1.690.

The Costa de Almería (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈkosta ðe almeˈɾi.a], "Coast of Almería") is a coastal region of Spain consisting of the coastal municipalities of the province of Almería, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain. The region extends 217 kilometres (135 mi) and includes 13 municipalities, from Pulpí on the border with the province of Murcia to Adra on the border with the province of Granada.

The Taifa of Almería (Arabic: طائفة المرية, Ta'ifa al-Mariyah) was a Muslim medieval Arab kingdom located in what is now the province of Almería in Spain. The taifa originated in 1012 and lasted until 1091. In this period the city of Almería reached its historical splendour under powerful local emirs like Khayran, the first fully independent Emir of Almería and Cartagena, and Abu Yahyà Muhammad ben Ma'n. Almería declared independence of its province from Caliphate of Cordoba around 1012. It remained as an independent kingdom, although several campaigns of the Taifa of Seville diminished its territory in the north. The kingdom was important due to its strategic location, its harbour, and a developed and very important textile industry, with around five thousand looms, being also a center of silk industry, which originated a very strong commerce with other parts of Europe and which remained until the Muslims were expelled in early 17th century. The emirs of Granada, Seville and Valencia tried to conquer the little Almería kingdom many times. However, it remained independent until the arrival of the Almoravid dynasty, except for a short period of Valencian occupation. The governor sent by the Valencian King, Ma'n, thereafter declared again the independence of Almería. The kingdom finally was annexed to the Almoravid empire, as were all of the other taifas.
