Gampel

Gampel-Bratsch is a municipality in the district of Leuk in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. It was formed on January 1, 2009. The voters of the municipalities of Gampel and Bratsch decided to merge on January 20, 2008.

Gampel-Steg railway station (French: Gare de Gampel-Steg, German: Bahnhof Gampel-Steg) is a railway station in the municipality of Steg-Hohtenn, in the Swiss canton of Valais. It is an intermediate stop on the Simplon line and is served by local trains only.

It takes its name from the village of Hohtenn that lies just over 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) from, and 253 metres (830 ft) below, the station.The station is served by the following passenger train: Hohten station is the starting point of the Lötschberg South Ramp walking trail, which parallels the south ramp of the Lötschberg railway as it descends the northern flank of the Rhone valley into Brig. The walk covers the 23 kilometres (14 mi) to Brig, passing by the stations of Ausserberg, Eggerberg and Lalden on the way, and offering views south over the Rhone valley.

Hohtenn is a village and former municipality in the district of Raron in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. Since 1 January 2009, it has been part of the municipality of Steg-Hohtenn.Hohtenn railway station, on the Lötschberg line, lies just over 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) from, and 253 metres (830 ft) above, the village of Hohtenn. It is served by trains to Bern, Thun and Brig. Additionally, a PostAuto bus service links Hohtenn village to Steg.

Niedergesteln is a municipality in the district of Raron in the canton of Valais in Switzerland.

The ruins of the Gestelnburg castle are situated above the village of Niedergesteln in Valais, Switzerland, on a rocky ridge called Feschti. The castle was probably built during the 12th century by the powerful Barons de la Tour (English: Tower), which are also called in German Herrn vom Turn. The rule of this family ended during the wars against the bishop of Sion in the second half of the 14th century, and the castle was finally destroyed by the Upper Valaisans in 1384. Exactly 600 years later, a project was started to restore the ruins and make them more easily accessible. Behind the castle there is a cave called Feschtiloch, which originates from the last ice age. The Gestelnburg is a Swiss cultural property of national importance.

Bratsch is a village in the municipality of Gampel-Bratsch in the district of Leuk of the canton of Valais in Switzerland. Bratsch was an independent municipality until January 1, 2009, when it merged with Gampel to form Gampel-Bratsch.

Ferden is a municipality in the district of Raron in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. Besides the village of Ferden itself, the municipality includes the hamlet of Goppenstein, and the alpine settlements of Faldum, Resti and Kummen.
