Ashburton is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 12 km (7.5 mi) southeast of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Boroondara local government area. Ashburton recorded a population of 7,952 at the 2021 census.Ashburton is known for the Ashburton Village shopping strip, the Ashburton Community Centre and the Ashburton Library on High Street. Nearby Warner Avenue hosts the Ashburton Pool and Recreation Centre and the Ashburton Seniors Centre. It is in close proximity to the Holmesglen Institute of TAFE, Monash University (Caulfield and Clayton campuses), Deakin University (Burwood campus) and Swinburne University (Hawthorn campus). In 2021, Ashburton residents were found to have the longest lifespan of any residents in Victoria.

East Malvern railway station is located on the Glen Waverley line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the eastern Melbourne suburb of Malvern East, and opened on 3 February 1929 as Eastmalvern. It was renamed East Malvern on 29 February 1972.

Waverley Road was a station on the Outer Circle railway line, opened on 3 March 1890 as "Waverley" on the section between Burnley and Oakleigh stations, and was renamed on 23 June 1890. It became a junction on 30 May 1890 when the line from Camberwell opened, and was a Staff and Ticket station, being provided with a signal box of 28 levers. Two platforms were provided, with the junction of the two lines at the North (Camberwell) end, as was a goods siding located near the current East Malvern station in Malvern East, Victoria, Australia, in what is now the Malvern Urban Forest. The platform, the mound of which can still be seen, was located approximately 120 metres SSE of where the line crossed Waverley Road.The signal box was replaced with a signal frame on the platform in 1891 to save staffing costs. The station was closed on 9 December 1895, along with the lines from Oakleigh to Ashburton station and Darling stations. On 3 February 1929 the line terminating at Darling was extended to East Malvern, and to Glen Waverley on 5 May 1930. In 1948 the line from Camberwell terminating at Ashburton was re-opened a kilometre southwards to the new Alamein station.

Burwood railway station is located on the Alamein line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the eastern Melbourne suburb of Glen Iris, and it opened on 30 May 1890 as Hartwell. It was renamed Burwood on 1 August 1909.Burwood was part of the first section of the Outer Circle line. It was closed for a brief stint from May 1897 until July 1898, after the closure of the Outer Circle line. However, after a public outcry, it soon reopened, first as part of the Deepdene Dasher steam service. In 1927, Burwood became part of the Ashburton line, which was then extended to Alamein on 28 June 1948, becoming the present day Alamein line. The station is named after Burwood House, which was built by Sir James Frederick Palmer in 1852.

Darling railway station is located on the Glen Waverley line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the eastern Melbourne suburb of Malvern East, and opened on 24 March 1890.The line through the station was originally built to link Burnley to the Outer Circle line at Waverley Road, and then on to Oakleigh. The line from Darling to Oakleigh closed on 9 December 1895. It was re-opened to Eastmalvern on 3 February 1929, and the line was then extended to Glen Waverley on 5 May 1930. Until 1987, a level crossing was provided at Moira Street, located at the Up end of the station. An overpass replaced the level crossing as part of the South Eastern Arterial link, built between Toorak and Warrigal Roads. Darling was upgraded to a Premium Station in 2008, although the current platform buildings date to 1979.A signal box at the station, which was located on Platform 1, was decommissioned on 8 June 2019.

Chadstone Shopping Centre (colloquially known as Chaddy) is a super regional shopping centre located in the south-eastern Melbourne suburb of Malvern East. Chadstone Shopping Centre is the biggest shopping centre in Australia and one of the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere. The centre opened on 3 October 1960 and was the first self-contained regional shopping centre in Melbourne. The centre contains 129,924m2 of shop floor space, about 530 stores and more than 9300 free car parking spaces. It has as many as 68,000 visitors on its busiest trading days and attracts about 400,000 tourists a year from interstate and 200,000 from overseas. Sales at the centre exceed $1.4 billion—the highest turnover of all Australian shopping centres—and it has more than 20 million visitors annually.The centre, also known colloquially as "Chaddy", includes anchor stores such as the Myer and David Jones department stores, H&M, Zara and Uniqlo (opened late 2016 as part of a renovation), Coles, Woolworths and Aldi supermarkets, as well as Kmart and Target discount department stores, JB Hi-Fi, and more than 500 specialty stores, of which the majority are fashion-related, including numerous high-end labels like Dior, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co and More. Also located in the centre is an Apple Store, a Tesla dealership and Legoland Discovery Centre with a Lego Store and Hoyts. There are two food courts, two office towers located at the southern side of the centre and a newly built hotel. The centre's owners had sought a further expansion to include a 250-room hotel and 15,000m2 of offices (including its owner Vicinity Centres Head Office), to take total floor space to 221,217m2, including 156,924m2 of shop floor space. Construction of the $130 million building started in early 2018 and opened to the public in late 2019.

Malvern East is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 13 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Stonnington local government area. Malvern East recorded a population of 22,296 at the 2021 census.Malvern East is bounded to the north by Wattletree Road and Gardiners Creek, to the east by Warrigal Road, to the south by the Princes Highway (Dandenong Road) and to the west by Tooronga Road. It is most famous for the Chadstone Shopping Centre, the largest shopping centre in the southern hemisphere, and the largest by total lettable space under one roof.In recent times, what was once a relatively small suburb was extended to incorporate parts of neighboring Chadstone. Based on its easterly proximity to Malvern, the expansion and redefinition of Malvern East was driven in the 1990s by resident groups eager to 'reclaim' their address from being identified with the Chadstone Shopping Centre, which had been massively expanded since its original construction. However, the Chadstone Shopping Centre shares the 'Malvern East' address and postcode.

The Electoral district of Glen Iris was an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly.It was created in the redistribution of 1945 when several districts including Boroondara were abolished. Glen Iris was abolished in the 1955 redistribution when several districts including Burwood and Caulfield East were created. Glen Iris was recreated in 1967, replacing Burwood. It was abolished again in 1976, replaced by a recreated Burwood.
