Edithvale railway station

Edithvale is a beachside suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 28 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Kingston local government area. Edithvale recorded a population of 6,276 at the 2021 census.

Aspendale railway station is located on the Frankston line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the south-eastern Melbourne suburb of Aspendale, and opened in April 1891 as Aspendale Park Racecourse. It was renamed Aspendale on 1 August 1905.

Aspendale Racecourse or Aspendale Park Racecourse, located at Aspendale, Victoria, Australia, was a horse racing venue, and the world's first purpose-built motor racing track. Aspendale Racecourse opened on 14 April 1891. It was established by James Robert Crooke, a horse trainer, who named the course after Aspen, one of his best horses, which had won the Newmarket Handicap twice, in 1880 and 1881.The track was situated east of the current Aspendale railway station and is believed to have been one mile (1.6 km) in length. Garden landscaping was designed by William Guilfoyle, who was the director of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne.Crooke was also a motoring enthusiast. In 1904, the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria held its first automobile demonstration at Aspendale Racecourse. In 1905, Crooke built a motor raceway, Australia's "first commercial track", inside the existing horse racing track. It was also the world's first purpose-built motor racing circuit, holding its first race meeting in January 1906. The pear-shaped track was close to one mile (1.6 km) in length, with slightly banked curves and a surface of crushed cement. Two racing car meetings were held, in January and November 1906, before the circuit fell into disuse. A banked track was constructed in 1923 over the original saucer-shaped track, but it had fallen into disuse again by 1930. The circuit was briefly revived after the Depression, but had ceased operating prior to World War II. The last recorded horse race at Aspendale Park was on 29 July 1931. Motor racing continued until the late 1940s. The area is now residential housing.

Aspendale Gardens is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 27 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Kingston local government area. Aspendale Gardens recorded a population of 6,427 at the 2021 census.Wells Road (State Route 23) transects the suburb. The M11 Mornington Peninsula Freeway and Springvale Road/Edithvale Road (Route 40) run along the border of Aspendale Gardens. There are a number of open areas and playgrounds facilities in Aspendale Gardens, including a cricket oval behind Aspendale Gardens Primary School, 6 playgrounds and over 20 large grassy areas spaced throughout the housing estates. There are many walking trails throughout Aspendale Gardens, including the Longbeach Trail (from the Patterson River to the Mordialloc Pier), the Mordialloc Creek Trail (from the Waterways Trail to Mordialloc Pier), the Waterways Trail (from Wells Road to Waterways) and the Aspendale Gardens Trail (from 7-Eleven to the Longbeach Trail outside St. Louis de Montfort's School).

The City of Chelsea was a local government area about 30 kilometres (19 mi) south of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia, on the eastern side of Port Phillip. The city covered an area of 12.23 square kilometres (4.72 sq mi), and existed from 1920 until 1994.

Chelsea is very popular with beachgoers during summer. Also popular is Bicentennial Park, located about 1 km inland on the site of a former rubbish tip. It has recently been redeveloped with modern barbecue and play equipment, most notably the Mount Chelsea adventure playground. The Frankston railway line first cut through the Chelsea area in 1882 and Chelsea station was opened in 1907, as was the Chelsea Post Office. These facilities served a modest slowly growing population before most of the Chelsea area was developed post-World War II. Many houses were demolished to make way for single storey units in the 1960s and 1970s. Chelsea has smaller households, fewer families with children and more elderly people than most other Melbourne suburbs. The Chelsea Magistrates' Court closed on 1 February 1985.Chelsea has its own railway station on the Frankston line. Chelsea is also home to many church, community and sporting organisations. The town has an Australian Rules football team competing in the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League. AFL legend Leigh Matthews played his junior football at the Chelsea Football Club. Golfers play at the Australasian Golf Club's Chelsea Public Golf Course on Fraser Avenue in neighbouring Edithvale.Chelsea Yacht Club provides competitive sailing and was formed in 1938.

Bonbeach is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 31 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Kingston local government area. Bonbeach recorded a population of 6,855 at the 2021 census.

Bonbeach railway station is located on the Frankston line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the south-eastern Melbourne suburb of Bonbeach, and it opened on 15 February 1926.

The Carrum Carrum Swamp was a historic coastal wetland encompassing 52 km2 (20 sq mi) with a catchment area of 735 km2 (284 sq mi) that . It had four drainage outlets into the Port Phillip Bay, including the modern-day Kananook Creek/Eel Race Drain, Patterson River and Mordialloc Creek (a distributary of the Patterson River's upper section, the Dandenong Creek). Explorer William Hovell discovered "a very extensive fresh water marsh, from 12 to 15 miles long and 11/2 to 6 broad, and only separated from Port Phillip by a narrow ridge or bank of sand not more than from two hundred to three hundred yards wide." A painting titled "Lagoon in the Carrum Carrum Swamp – evening 1872" by James W Curtis is held at the National Gallery of Australia. Due to modern land developments and drainage measures only remnants of the swamp remain, such as the Edithvale-Seaford Wetlands.

The Edithvale-Seaford Wetlands is a collection of principally freshwater swamps and marshlands totalling 261 hectares (640 acres) in southeastern Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, about 30 km (19 mi) southeast of Melbourne CBD. It is the largest natural wetland of its type in the Port Phillip and Western Port basins, and is all that remains of the historic Carrum Carrum Swamp, which once covered more than 4,000 hectares (9,900 acres) from present-day Mordialloc in the north to Frankston in the south.The surviving wetlands are divided into two groups, namely the northern Edithvale Wetlands (103 hectares or 250 acres in total) and the southern Seaford Wetlands (158 hectares or 390 acres in total), which together form the Edithvale-Seaford Wetlands Ramsar Site. Along with the nearby Eastern Treatment Plant, they form the Carrum Wetlands Important Bird Area.All the wetlands are no more than 2 km (1.2 mi) away from the shore of Beaumaris Bay, bounded by Governor Road in the north, the coastal Nepean Highway in the west, the Mornington Peninsula Freeway and Frankston Freeway in the east, and Seaford Road in the south. Nowadays they are largely surrounded by residential areas, and some parts of the wetlands have been converted to parks, recreational reserves and golf courses.
