Xanten Charterhouse

Xanten (German pronunciation: [ˈksantn̩] , Low Rhenish: Santen) is a town in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located in the district of Wesel. Xanten is known for the Archaeological Park, one of the largest archaeological open air museums in the world, built at the site of the Roman settlements Colonia Ulpia Traiana. Other attractions include the medieval town centre with Xanten Cathedral, many museums and large man-made lakes for various watersport activities. Xanten is visited by approximately one million tourists a year.

Colonia Ulpia Traiana (sometimes called "Castra Vetera") was a colonia in the Roman province of Germania inferior, founded by emperor Trajan. It was located in the area of today's Xanten.

Xanten Cathedral (German: Xantener Dom), sometimes called St. Victor's Cathedral (German: St.-Viktor-Dom), is a Catholic church situated in Xanten, a historic town in the lower Rhine area, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is considered the biggest cathedral between Cologne and the sea. In 1936 it was declared a minor basilica by Pope Pius XI. Even though the church is called a cathedral, it has never been the seat of a bishop.

Sonsbeck is a municipality in the district of Wesel, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is situated approximately 20 km west of Wesel, and 25 km south-east of Cleves as well as 8 km from the historic city of Xanten. It is one of North Rhine-Westphalia's wealthiest municipalities.

The Lower Rhine Heights (German: Niederrheinischer Höhenzug) is a hill ridge which, with several interruptions, stretches in a broad arc through the Lower Rhine Plain from Krefeld to Nijmegen, between the valley of the Rhine in the east and that of the Niers in the west. This landform element is also called the Lower Rhine Hill Ridge. The sandhills, which in some places reach around hundred meters in height (Klever Berg (106 m)) and protrude more than sixty meters above the surrounding river terraces of the Lower Rhine, originated in the penultimate glacial period (the Saale glaciation) as terminal moraine ridges from glaciers advancing from the northeast. Two of the glacial termini formed the glacial basins of Groesbeek and Kranenburg, resulting in the distinctly recognizable typical W-shaped ridge between Nijmegen and Kleve.

Rees is a town in the district of Kleve in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located on the right bank of the Rhine, approximately 20 km east of Kleve. The population in 2005 was 22,559. Founded in 1228, Rees is the oldest town in the lower Rhine area.

The FM and TV-mast Wesel is a 320.8 metre tall guyed steel framework radio mast of the Deutsche Telekom AG at Wesel-Büderich, Germany. FM and TV-mast Wesel was built in 1968 and is used for FM- and TV transmission. FM and TV-mast Wesel is the second tallest structure in Northrhine-Westphalia. Before the construction of the chimney of Power Station Westerholt, it was the tallest structure of North Rhine-Westphalia. It reclaimed this title after the chimney's demolition on November 12, 2006.

Auesee is an artificial bathing lake in Wesel, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, about 50 kilometres (31 mi) northwest from the state capital of Düsseldorf. A popular recreation spot, it has been referred to as the "jewel" of Wesel. Auesee was built from one of the largest gravel excavation sites in North Rhine-Westphalia.
