Lower Rhine Heights

Sonsbeck is a municipality in the district of Wesel, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is situated approximately 20 km west of Wesel, and 25 km south-east of Cleves as well as 8 km from the historic city of Xanten. It is one of North Rhine-Westphalia's wealthiest municipalities.

Issumer Fleuth is a river of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It flows into the Niers near Kevelaer.

Xanten (German pronunciation: [ˈksantn̩] , Low Rhenish: Santen) is a town in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located in the district of Wesel. Xanten is known for the Archaeological Park, one of the largest archaeological open air museums in the world, built at the site of the Roman settlements Colonia Ulpia Traiana. Other attractions include the medieval town centre with Xanten Cathedral, many museums and large man-made lakes for various watersport activities. Xanten is visited by approximately one million tourists a year.

Colonia Ulpia Traiana (sometimes called "Castra Vetera") was a colonia in the Roman province of Germania inferior, founded by emperor Trajan. It was located in the area of today's Xanten.

Xanten Cathedral (German: Xantener Dom), sometimes called St. Victor's Cathedral (German: St.-Viktor-Dom), is a Catholic church situated in Xanten, a historic town in the lower Rhine area, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is considered the biggest cathedral between Cologne and the sea. In 1936 it was declared a minor basilica by Pope Pius XI. Even though the church is called a cathedral, it has never been the seat of a bishop.

Xanten Charterhouse (German: Karthaus Xanten) is a former Carthusian monastery, or charterhouse, in Xanten, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The monastery was originally founded in 1417 in Flüren near Wesel but was moved to Xanten in 1628. It was suppressed in 1802 during the secularisation of Germany under Napoleon. The buildings passed into private ownership and later into the ownership of the town of Xanten.The upper part of the premises is now used as the town library, while on the ground floor is a bar and restaurant.

Gelderner Fleuth (pronounced: [fløːt]) is an approximately 27.0 km (16.8 mi) long, non-navigable, tributary of the Niers in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It rises in the village of An der Gastendonk, which belongs to the city of Kempen, flows first west and then turns north east of Wachtendonk to flow into the Niers near the city of Geldern, which gives it its name. The creek designated as Gelderner Fleuth on the water station map has its source in the ditch system of the Gastendonk cultural monument in Kempen. The topographical maps still call the creek here Schwarze Rahm (Black Rahm). After a few meters, the Fliethgraben flows in from the left, which connects the stream with the Flöthbach. The Black Rahm flows west and south past a lake, then picks up the counterflowing Uhlesrahm on the left, turns north, flows west of the lake and then picks up an unnamed stream from the right, turning west again; here the river code number changes from 28641 to 28643. The Black Rahm then curves north and changes its name to Spring in the Eyller Bruch. Only after the confluence with the Landwehrbach is it also referred to as Gelderner Fleuth on topographical maps.

Kleve (Cleves in English use) or Kreis Kleve is a Kreis (local-government district) in the Lower Rhine region of northwestern North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Neighbouring districts are Borken, Wesel, and Viersen in Germany, and the Dutch provinces of Limburg and Gelderland.

Castle Haag (German: Schloss Haag) was a moated castle in the Rhineland region of Germany. It is located in Geldern in the district of Kleve, North Rhine-Westphalia. It is owned by the Van Hoensbroeck family.

Kalkar (German: [ˈkalkaːɐ̯] is a municipality in the district of Kleve, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located near the Rhine, approx. 10 km south-east of Cleves. The catholic church St. Nicolai has preserved one of the most significant sacral inventories from the late Middle Ages in Germany.
