Tullos is an area of Aberdeen, Scotland. The area takes its name from the Vale of Tullos, which lies between Tullos Hill and Torry Hill. Tullos derived its name from a corruption of the Gaelic ‘Tulach’ meaning a hill. In this extract from the "Book of St. Fittick", published in 1902, Dr. Thomas White Ogilvie describes what the scene looked like in his day. "It is full of quiet charm, this little glen, with its Kirk on the height and its Kirk in the hollow, extending from the great gap in the cliff, which forms the Bay, up to the river, where, with majestic bend, it sweeps glittering and gurgling by Allenvale and Duthie Park, sweetest of resting places for the quick and the dead." The scene is very different today. In 1850 the Caledonian, Great North of Scotland and North British Railways began to provide rail links to Aberdeen. The main line cut through the Vale of Tullos. The area south of the railway line is full of car showrooms, oil yards and waste recycling plants. Northwards, a vast area of densely packed housing covers the hillside. Tullos is now home to the headquarters of Northsound Radio, Original 106 Aberdeen and STV North (formerly Grampian Television).

Torry Academy was a secondary school in Torry, Aberdeen, run by Aberdeen City Council. The original school was built in 1927 and added to in 1947, creating the granite part of the school building. The school was extended in the late 1970s on the site of The Moundie to create an additional 3-storey block. Torry Academy was closed on July 6, 2018, prior to the opening of the new £47 million Lochside Academy in Altens. It closed around the same time as Kincorth Academy. Both schools were replaced by Lochside Academy. After almost 3 years, demolition work began in April 2021, before being finished in September.

Balnagask is an area of Torry, a burgh of Aberdeen in Scotland. Balnagask is said to mean "the village in the hollow" in Gaelic. The Balnagask Estate stretched from the golf course to the fields that overlooked both the Bay of Nigg and the railway line. Two farms straddled the land – Kirkhill Farm was situated on the left side of the hill and Home Farm located on land now occupied by Baxter Court. The estate also included an area of land around Balnagask Road and the top of Baxter Street. In the 1960s Aberdeen City Council gave the go ahead for a large housing estate to be built at Balnagask. The new estate began to swallow up acres of land on the southern slopes of Torry Hill as the new cuboid shaped houses enveloped the elegant villas of Balnagask. The box shaped homes (affectionately referred to by residents as ‘The Hen Hooses’) differed wildly from the regimented ideas of past town planners. The first phase of the housing scheme was completed in 1967 and the second phase in 1969.

Altens is a district in Aberdeen, on the north-east coast of Scotland.Altens is home to a large industrial estate, alongside a similar estate in neighbouring Tullos. The industrial estates have offices, including a large facility built for Royal Dutch Shell, as well as industrial units of various sizes, including the Royal Mail's main mail centre for the North East of Scotland. There are also warehouses, car dealerships, and a civic amenity site. The area is also home to one of three North East Scotland College campuses in Aberdeen City. The industrial estate is home to Grampian Continental headquarters and a depot for RTH Lubbers UK. These two companies have depots in England and the Netherlands.

Original 106 is an Independent Local Radio station owned by DC Thomson and broadcasting to Aberdeenshire and the cities of Aberdeen, Dundee and Perth in Scotland.As of September 2023, the station broadcasts to a weekly audience of 77,000, according to RAJAR.

The River Dee Ferry Boat Disaster occurred on 5 April 1876. Thirty two people drowned in the mouth of the River Dee, Aberdeenshire, Scotland when their ferry boat capsized. Overcrowding, fast flowing current and a poorly spliced wire rope were blamed.

Alexander Hall and Sons was a shipbuilder that operated in Aberdeen from 1797 to 1957. They designed the pointed and sharply raked Aberdeen bow" first used on the Scottish Maid and which became a characteristic of the "extreme clippers".

HM Prison Aberdeen (formerly known as Craiginches) was a medium-security prison, located in the city of Aberdeen, Scotland. The prison was managed by the Scottish Prison Service. Known as one of the most overcrowded prisons in Scotland, it had a design capacity of 155 and was contracted to hold up to 230 prisoners. However, on the first day of an inspection in January 2009 it held 264 prisoners. In 2014, it was closed in favour of the new HMP Grampian. In its latter years it saw an increase in inmates from outside the Grampian Sheriffdom, mainly from Wolverhampton and London. The diverse population led to many internal feuds and disputes. It ran exceptional drug rehabilitation programmes and was a pioneer for drug projects such as drug use kits etc. The management also wished to pilot a needle exchange programme. In August 2007 Aberdeen Prison was chosen to pilot a new initiative called the Substance Related Offending Behaviour Program (SROBP) piloted by Officers Graeme Robson and Allan Dewar which looked at prisoners finding the relationship between their substance use and their offending behaviour. This programme has been very successful in reducing rates of recidivism. Aberdeen Prison was also recognised for its investment in in-house Bereavement Counseling services facilitated by Graeme Robson and Wayne Lawson. On 4 June 2008, it was announced that HMP Aberdeen and HMP Peterhead would be merged into a "Super Prison" and a new state of the art prison built on the Peterhead site. A new tranche of managers were recruited identifying key skills such as prisoner management, problem solving, project management and compliance. Initially identified was Graeme Robson who is now a Residential Compliance Manager. The "Super-Jail" can accommodate approx 500 prisoners and the new prison is known as HMP Grampian. Aberdeen Prison which served predominantly Aberdeen city and its environs has been closed and have been replaced by HMP & YOI Grampian, a prison located in Peterhead which has been described as a "community facing Prison". However 70% of Grampian's populace is from Aberdeen city. Henry John Burnett, the last man to be executed in Scotland, was hanged inside the prison on 15 August 1963.

Aberdeen Lifeboat Station is a Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) marine-rescue facility in Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom. Aberdeen was one of the first lifeboat stations to be established in Scotland, it was founded in 1802.The station is currently equipped with a Severn-class lifeboat, the Bon Accord and a D-class (IB1) inshore lifeboat, the James Bissett Simpson.

Aberdeen Harbour, rebranded as the Port of Aberdeen in 2022, is a sea port located in the city of Aberdeen on the east coast of Scotland. The port was first established in 1136 and has been continually redeveloped over the centuries to provide a base for significant fishing and ship building industries. Since the 1970s it has provided support to the offshore oil and gas industry operating in the North Sea and it is the main commercial port in the north east of Scotland.

Queen Victoria Bridge, also known as Victoria Bridge, is a road bridge across the River Dee linking the main part of the City of Aberdeen with Torry and the southern areas of the city. It was opened in May 1881. Built by Aberdeen City Council and partly funded by public subscription, it was constructed partly in response to the River Dee ferryboat disaster of 5 April 1876.
