Brampton Bryan

Brampton Bryan Castle is a ruined medieval castle in the small village of Brampton Bryan in north-western Herefordshire, England, 50m south of the River Teme. The castle guarded an important route from Ludlow along the Teme Valley to Knighton and on into Central Wales.

Brampton Bryan Hall is a 17th-century English country house in the village of Brampton Bryan, Herefordshire. It is still owned by the descendants of Robert Harley, Earl of Oxford, chief minister under Queen Anne and is a Grade II* listed building.The house was built around 1660 by Edward Harley to replace Brampton Bryan Castle, which had been destroyed during the Civil War. It was constructed in three storeys of brick and sandstone, with a Welsh slate roof and enhanced and enlarged in the 18th century.

Buckton and Coxall is a civil parish in north Herefordshire, England. Buckton and Coxall are hamlets in the parish. Coxall has a Baptist chapel situated on the B4367 road, where there is a Royal Mail post box too. The chapel and post box are on the other side of the Heart of Wales Line from the main part of the hamlet, and in the county of Shropshire. Buckton is a larger hamlet and has a bridge (Buckton Bridge) over the River Teme. There was a Roman fort at Buckton.Adley Moor (or Adleymoor) is another small hamlet in the parish and lies between Coxall and Jay (a small hamlet in neighbouring Leintwardine civil parish). Between Adley Moor and Jay is a small piece of common land (Adley Moor/Adleymoor Common). The River Redlake flows through the parish, passing Coxall and Adley Moor, before joining the River Clun at Jay.The Herefordshire Trail long distance footpath passes through the southern part of the parish, on its way between the nearby Herefordshire villages of Brampton Bryan and Leintwardine.Coxall Knoll is a notable wooded hill in the vicinity, with an Iron Age hill fort atop. It straddles the Shropshire-Herefordshire border, with the fort and peak being on the Shropshire side.According to the 2001 census the parish had a population of 102. The parish borders with Shropshire and Wales. The Salopian village of Bucknell is about one mile (1.6 km) to the west, on the other side of the Knoll.

Coxall Knoll is a hill lying on the boundary of Shropshire and Herefordshire, England; it is near Bucknell in Shropshire and Buckton and Coxall in Herefordshire. On the summit is an Iron Age hillfort, a scheduled monument.

Walford, Letton and Newton is a civil parish in north Herefordshire, England, and approximately 20 miles (30 km) north-northwest from the city and county town of Hereford, and 2 miles (3 km) east from the border with Wales. Parish settlements are the village of Walford, at the north, and the hamlets of Letton and Newton farther south. The post town is Craven Arms and post district, SY7. Parish population at the 2011 census was 179.Walford village is 600 yards (500 m) south of the River Teme, and about 1 mile (1.6 km) south-west of Leintwardine. The A4113 Bromfield to Knighton road runs through the village. Mound remains of a motte-and-bailey are at the east of Walford (grid reference SO3913972413). Letton, 1.5 miles (2 km) south of Walford, comprises two farms and two residential properties. Newton comprises a group of farm buildings and a row of six cottages. At the time of the Domesday Survey Walford was known as 'Waliforde', which may mean 'ford of the Welshmen'.

Bedstone Court is an imposing 19th-century country house at Bedstone, Shropshire, England. It is occupied by Bedstone College, an independent educational establishment, and is a Grade II listed building.The red brick and black-and-white timbered house was built between 1882 and 1884, to a design by architect Thomas Harris, for Sir Henry Ripley, a wealthy Yorkshire industrialist and Member of Parliament. The multi-gabled three-storey house has wooden mullioned and transomed windows and is a "calendar house", reputed to have 365 windows, 52 rooms (on the first 2 floors), 12 chimneys and 7 external doors. The central hall has a 52-panelled stained-glass window depicting the months of the year, signs of the zodiac, birds associated with the months and agricultural activities of the months. The Ripley family sold the house for educational purposes in about 1950. The building was badly damaged by a fire in 1996 but was fully restored and continues to be the centrepiece of Bedstone College.

Bedstone is a small village and civil parish in south Shropshire, England, close to the border with Herefordshire. The village is approximately 1+1⁄2 miles (2.4 km) from the railway stations at Hopton Heath and Bucknell and is situated just off the B4367 road.

Bucknell railway station serves the village of Bucknell in Shropshire, England 28+1⁄4 miles (45.5 km) south west of Shrewsbury on the Heart of Wales Line. This railway station is located at street level, adjacent to the level crossing and parallel with Weston Road near the centre of the village. All trains serving the station are operated by Transport for Wales. The station has two platforms, although currently only the one adjacent to the original station building (now a private house and holiday cottage, which has been Grade-II listed since 1987) is operational, the other track having been taken out of use in 1965 and subsequently dismantled.

Birtley is a hamlet in north Herefordshire, in England. It is situated to the west of Ludlow and Leominster, approximately 16 km (9.9 mi) from both towns. It is part of the civil parish of Lingen.

Jay is a hamlet in north Herefordshire, England. It lies in the civil parish of Leintwardine, on the other side of the River Clun 1 mile (1.6 km) northwest of that village. The lane between Jay and Leintwardine is called Jay Lane and the bridge over the Clun is Jay Bridge. The minor River Redlake passes Jay and then joins the Clun just south of Jay Bridge.The hamlets of Jay and nearby Heath formed a single township and whilst in the present day form part of the civil parish of Leintwardine, and thus a part of Herefordshire, they were regarded as being part of Shropshire until the mid-19th century. A Roman auxiliary cavalry fort was situated at Jay Lane.Its name, and that of the nearby hamlet of Beckjay (about 1+1⁄2 miles (2.4 km) north), is probably a reference to the family of Elias de Jay, who held the local manor of Bedston until 1349. A relative of this family, Brian de Jay, was the last recorded master of the English Knights Templar. To the north is the hamlet of Broadward (in Shropshire), to the west is the small village of Bedstone (in Shropshire), and to the south is the hamlet of Buckton (in Herefordshire).

The A4113 road is a single-carriageway road that runs from Knighton in Powys to Bromfield in Shropshire, United Kingdom, passing through north Herefordshire. From Knighton (and the A488) it heads east along the southern side of the Teme valley (heading downstream), crossing the England–Wales border into Herefordshire, then across the River Teme via Leintwardine Bridge (at 119 metres (390 ft) above sea level). The route then follows a Roman Road north through the Roman village of Leintwardine, leaving the Teme behind. From Leintwardine the route heads rapidly up into the Leintwardine hills, passing at 242 metres (794 ft) above sea level, before descending into Shropshire and terminating at Bromfield (A49), 2 miles (3.2 km) northwest of Ludlow, at an elevation of 91 metres (299 ft) and also returning close to the River Teme. In total the A4113 is 14.0 miles (22.5 km) in length.
