Melling-with-Wrayton is a civil parish in the City of Lancaster in the English county of Lancashire. It includes the village of Melling and the hamlet of Wrayton, to the northeast. The parish had a population of 290 recorded in the 2001 census, increasing slightly to 299 at the 2011 census.Melling forms part of a cluster of sites along the Lune Valley – the densest distribution of Norman castles outside the Welsh border countryside. Each has evidence of a motte – as with Arkholme and Whittington – but Melling has no surviving bailey.

It stands at the end of the village street, overlooking the River Lune, within the bailey of a former castle. The former 11th-century motte stands to the northeast of the church.

Arkholme for Kirkby Lonsdale railway station served the village of Arkholme in Lancashire, England. It is situated on what is now the Leeds–Morecambe line between the current Wennington and Carnforth stations.

Tunstall is a village in north Lancashire, England (grid reference SD607736). It is 11.1 miles (18 km) northeast of Lancaster on the A683 road between Lancaster and Kirkby Lonsdale. In the 2001 census the civil parish of Tunstall had a population of 105. In the 2011 census Tunstall was grouped with Cantsfield (2001 pop. 76) to give a total of 223.To the north east of the village is the Grade I listed Church of St John the Baptist. Several houses, a restaurant, a village hall, and a tennis court make up most of the village of Tunstall. The restaurant/pub, called the Lunesdale Arms hosts many village activities, such as carol services and quizzes. To the south of the village is Thurland Castle, which dates from the fourteenth century. It was made ruinous following a siege in 1643, restored in 1809 and 1829, then gutted by fire in 1879 and rebuilt. It is now divided into apartments.

Thurland Castle is a country house in Lancashire, England which has been converted into apartments. Surrounded by a moat, and located in parkland, it was originally a defensive structure, one of a number of castles in the Lune Valley. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building. Situated between the villages of Cantsfield and Tunstall the castle stands on a low mound on a flat plain, with the River Greta on the south side and the Cant beck to the north. A deep circular moat surrounds it.

Wennington Hall is a former country house in Wennington, a village in the City of Lancaster district in Lancashire, England. The house is a Grade II listed building and from 1940 until 2022 was used as a school, at first by the Quaker boarding school Wennington School before its move to Yorkshire, then by Lancashire County Council.

Wray railway station was a short-lived station near the village of Wray in the City of Lancaster district of Lancashire, England. The station was opened on a temporary basis by the "Little" North Western Railway on their route between Skipton and Lancaster, and was closed after just ten months of operation in the summer of 1850. The station was a single-building cottage and was administered by John Bee until 1891.The line remained in use until closure to passengers in 1966 between Wennington and Morecambe Promenade. Freight services finished the following year in 1967 and the track was subsequently dismantled. The old formation has since been returned to agricultural land. The course of the route can still be followed from nearby roads and on satellite images, with several overbridges still standing.

Just west of Wennington railway station was Wennington junction where the Furness and Midland Joint Railway left the North Western section of the Midland Railway. On 11 August 1880 the 12:15 Leeds to Lancaster train completely derailed at the junction points then continued for 166 yards (152 m) before striking the abutment of a bridge. The junction had no super-elevation as continuous crossing timbers were in use thus reducing the safe speed, and the Midland Railway were advised to correct this. But the enquiry also found the braking power of the train to be grossly inadequate; the train should have been able to stop before reaching the bridge. Only the locomotive was fitted with a Westinghouse brake and there was only one brake van on the train. Although the Midland Railway was fitting continuous brakes to its passenger trains the enquiry pointed out that such a recommendation had been made twenty years previously and the actions had still not been completed.

Arkholme-with-Cawood is a civil parish of the City of Lancaster in Lancashire, England. The parish of Arkholme-with-Cawood had a population of 334 recorded in the 2001 census, falling marginally to 333 at the 2011 Census. The parish is north east of Lancaster and lies on the B6254 road.
