Ushirogawachi Dam

Hirakoba Dam is a concrete gravity dam located in Saga Prefecture in Japan. The dam is used for flood water control and water supply. The catchment area of the dam is 2.2 km2. The dam impounds about 10 ha of land when full and can store 1080 thousand cubic meters of water. The construction of the dam was started on 1972 and completed in 1983.

This station is the terminus of the Karatsu Line, and is located 43.5 kilometers from the opposing terminus of the line at Kubota. It is also used by trains from the Chikuhi Line, which continue from the nominal terminus of the line at Karatsu using the tracks of the Karatsu Line for an additional 2.2 kilometers to terminate here.

The same Chinese characters are used in the name of the city (唐津市) as for the city of Dangjin in South Chungcheong Province, South Korea.

Kawamura Art Museum (河村美術館, Kawamura Bijutsukan) is art museum in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture, Japan. The collection includes twenty works by Aoki Shigeru as well as paintings by Kuroda Seiki, Wada Eisaku, and Yamashita Shintarō. Temporary exhibitions are also mounted. In 2014 the museum became a Public Interest Incorporated Foundation.

At the end of the Edo period, Karatsu castle was home to the Ogasawara clan, daimyō of Karatsu Domain. It was also known as "Dancing Crane Castle" (舞鶴城, Maizuru-jō).
