Bayles railway station

Bayles is a bounded rural locality in Victoria, Australia, 75 kilometers (48 miles) south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shire of Cardinia local government area. Bayles recorded a population of 445 at the 2021 census. Bayles is located to the east of the town of Koo Wee Rup, on the Koo Wee Rup-Longwarry Road.

Monomeith is a bounded rural locality in Victoria, Australia, 67 kilometres (42 mi) south-east of Melbourne's central business district, located within the Shire of Cardinia local government area. Monomeith recorded a population of 69 at the 2021 census. In 1942, during World War II, a military airfield was constructed for the air defence of Melbourne, south of Spencers Road, and is still visible using Google Earth.

Monomeith Park Airfield, later known as Bayles Airfield, was a Royal Australian Air Force airfield east of Monomeith, Victoria and south of Bayles, Victoria, Australia during World War II. It was constructed in 1942 as a fighter aerodrome to protect Melbourne and Yallourn, the location of the largest power station in Victoria. The site was selected in March 1942 and the land requisitioned in June of that year. During planning it was described in correspondence as RAAF Monomeith Park although it never carried the status of a base. Construction commenced in October 1942. It was originally intended to have four runways although only two were constructed as the strategic situation in the South West Pacific Area had improved by 1943. In 1944 it was downgraded to an Emergency Landing Ground with just the fenced runways retained by the RAAF. The remainder of the land was returned to the original owner for grazing. It was no longer required after World War II and in 1946 the runways were returned to the original land owner. After the war it was briefly known as Bayles Airfield and used for private light aircraft but the runways deteriorated quickly due to frequent flooding.

Monomeith was a railway station on the South Gippsland railway line in South Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. The station operated until the late 1970s. None of this station remains intact except for a very rusty set of points coming out of the former station, however the track still in reasonable condition. Despite hopes of re-opening the line between Cranbourne and Leongatha of which this station is part, the Victorian State Government has decided not to reopen the line, as the costs were too high, at $72 million dollars. Improved coach services have been provided instead. Near the former Monomeith Railway Station is the local horse club. There is also the Worri Yallock Creek concrete piles trestle bridge nearby the station site, which is the second largest bridge on the South Gippsland Railway Line.

Caldermeade railway station was located on the South Gippsland line in Caldermeade, South Gippsland, Victoria. The station opened on 11 November 1890, when the line from Tooradin was extended to Loch, and was closed to all traffic on 6 October 1958. The station has since been demolished, with no remains intact. However, the track still remains in a reasonable condition.

Yannathan is a bounded rural locality in Victoria, Australia, 75 kilometres (47 mi) south-east of Melbourne's central business district, located within the Shire of Cardinia local government area. Yannathan recorded a population of 272 at the 2021 census.

Koo Wee Rup is a town and satellite suburb in Victoria, Australia, 63 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shire of Cardinia local government area. Built on former marshland now converted to market gardens, Koo Wee Rup recorded a population of 4,047 at the 2021 census. Prior to December 1994 the suburb was part of the Shire of Cranbourne. The post office opened on 7 January 1891. In the early 1950s many Dutch and Italian families settled in the area. Prior to European settlement the area was occupied by the Bunurong Aboriginal people. It is from their language that the town's name derives. Ku-wirup is believed to mean "plenty of blackfish" or "blackfish swimming". Koo Wee Rup is Australia's largest asparagus-growing district. It is also a beef-farming and potato-growing area. The town was previously well known for its potato festival, which was held each March to raise funds for the Westernport Memorial Hospital (now Kooweerup Regional Health Service). Schools include Koo Wee Rup Primary School, St John the Baptist Primary School and Koo Wee Rup Secondary College. The town has an Australian rules football team competing in the West Gippsland Football League.

Yannathan was a railway station on the Strzelecki railway line in South Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. The station was opened on 29 June 1922. Yannthan was the terminus station on the Strezlecki line from 7 August 1941 following flooding of the Lang Lang River, resulting in damages to one of the four trestle bridges over the river. Yannathan was closed on 15 April 1950 when the line was truncated up to Bayles Station.

Koo Wee Rup was a railway station on the South Gippsland line in South Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. The station operated until the closure of the line between Cranbourne Station and Leongatha Station in July 1993. The station remains partly intact with the platform and goods shed (now privately owned) intact, however the track one kilometre on each side of the station platform has been dismantled, and replaced by a concrete pathway for bicycles and recreational use. Koo Wee Rup was also the junction of the branch line to Strzelecki. The establishment of the pathway has effectively removed any likelihood that the railway will be rehabilitated. It can also be seen as being the start of a rail trail on the railway reserve, stretching back to Cranbourne, which will block future rail transport options for people in Cranbourne East, Clyde, and surrounding areas.

Lang Lang was a railway station on the South Gippsland railway line in South Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. The station operated until the closure of the line between Cranbourne Station and Leongatha Station in 1993. This station remains partially intact with its platform and signals still in reasonable condition, the track along this section is still in reasonable condition.

Lang Lang is a town in Victoria, Australia, 73 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shires of Bass Coast, Cardinia and South Gippsland local government areas. Lang Lang recorded a population of 2,556 at the 2021 census. The village is just off the South Gippsland Highway near its intersection with the Bass Highway, on the Lang Lang River and borders the region of Dalmore, a large asparagus growing region. Lang Lang also caters to beef, dairy farming and sand mines.
