The Albert Street Autonomous Zone, also known as A-Zone or the Old Market Autonomous Zone, was founded in 1995, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, by local activists Paul Burrows and Sandra Drosdowech, who also co-founded Winnipeg's Mondragon Bookstore.Its name is derived from "Old Market Square", the historic Exchange District in Winnipeg's downtown core area, combined with Hakim Bey's notion of a "temporary autonomous zone" (or TAZ). The Winnipeg A-Zone occupies a three-story building sometimes referred to as the Imperial Dry Goods Building, originally built in 1899. Like many buildings in the area, it is classified as a heritage building by the city of Winnipeg. Since 1995, the building has been known locally as both the A-Zone, and sometimes the Emma Goldman Building.

The TD Winnipeg International Jazz Festival is a Canadian jazz festival first held in 1989 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It is usually held in June.The festival, organized by the Jazz Winnipeg organization and formerly called the Jazz Winnipeg Festival, features Canadian and international musicians in several jazz genres. The festival holds ticketed events in various Winnipeg venues and free concerts in the Old Market Square in Winnipeg's historic Exchange District. Jazz Winnipeg also hosts jazz concerts throughout the year. Past performers include jazz legends George Benson, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Dave Brubeck, Charlie Haden, Herbie Hancock, Joe Henderson, Dave Holland, Wynton Marsalis, Sonny Rollins, Wayne Shorter, McCoy Tyner, Bobby McFerrin, Buster Williams, Christian McBride, and Kamasi Washington, as well as non-jazz artists such as The Roots, Booker T. Jones, The Neville Brothers, St. Vincent, and Al Green.

The Association for Manitoba Archives (AMA) is a voluntary organization dedicated to the preservation of the documentary heritage of the people and institutions of the province of Manitoba, Canada, by improving the administration, effectiveness and efficiency of the province's archival systems. The membership is made up primarily of archivists and archival institutions, but anyone who is interested in supporting the mandate of the organization can join. Today, the AMA provides a number of services, including: support for its members; advisory services for both members and non-members; educational and training opportunities; advocacy to increase the awareness of archives in the wider community; publications; virtual and real exhibitions; grants and awards. Of particular interest to the broader community is the Manitoba Day Award, which recognizes those users of archives who have completed an original work of excellence which contributes to the understanding and celebration of Manitoba history.

The Exchange District is a National Historic Site of Canada in the downtown area of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Just one block north of Portage and Main, the Exchange District comprises twenty city blocks and approximately 150 heritage buildings, and it is known for its intact early 20th century collection of warehouses, financial institutions, and early terracotta-clad skyscrapers.The Exchange is home to the Manitoba Museum as well as the Planetarium and a Science Gallery. The Exchange District spans two distinct areas, the East Exchange and the West Exchange. The east Exchange area is located between the Disraeli Bridge, Waterfront Drive, William Stephenson Way, and Main Street, and the West Exchange is bounded by Adelaide Street, Ross Avenue, Notre Dame Avenue, and Main Street.

201 Portage (formerly TD Centre, Canwest Place, and CanWest Global Place) is an office tower at the northwest intersection of Portage and Main in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It is the 2nd tallest building in Winnipeg and in the province of Manitoba.

The Union Bank Building (aka the Union Bank Tower or Former Union Bank Building and Annex), located in the Exchange District of Winnipeg, Manitoba, is the first skyscraper in Canada, once forming the northern end of Main Street's prestigious Banker's Row. It was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1997.The 11-storey (including mezzanine) building towers over its neighbours at a height of 47.58 metres (156.1 ft). Beginning construction in 1903 and opening in November 1904, the Union Bank Tower was the tallest building in Winnipeg at its completion, beating the eight stories of the newly-built Merchants' Bank building (now demolished). At the time of opening, the top floor of Union Bank was the second-highest in the British Empire, just 1 metre (3.3 ft) below London's tallest building. Union Bank Tower is the oldest surviving of Canada's tallest buildings to incorporate a steel skeleton structure that fully supports a light-weight, veneer 'curtain wall' facade—a design innovation that facilitated the proliferation of skyscrapers in the 20th century. The Merchants' Bank building proceeded it by several years in use of steel structure construction. Moreover, Union Bank Tower had the largest and fastest elevator in Western Canada and was the first building in the nation to introduce the modern concept of a general contractor to oversee construction. Initially built for the Union Bank of Lower Canada, it remained vacant for 18 years beginning in the late 1990s, until it was redeveloped into the Paterson GlobalFoods Institute and student housing for Red River College in 2013.

The Confederation Building is a 10-story office building along the Exchange District of Winnipeg, Manitoba, built by architect J. Wilson Gray. Built in 1913, the building was originally owned and occupied by the Confederation Life Association. It stands 41 m (135 ft) tall and was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1976 for its Chicago school-influenced architecture. The plaque on the front of the building reads:The Confederation Building This ten story steel-framed office block is representative of early high-rise building construction technology in Winnipeg. Designed in the Chicago style of architecture by J. Wilson Gray of Toronto, it was erected in 1912 by the Carter-Halls-Aldinger Company of Winnipeg at a cost of $400,000.… Its style, use, and placement within Winnipeg's commercial core make it an enduring symbol of the city's great economic and spatial growth in the early twentieth century - Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada

The Lindsay Building is a ten-storey terracotta apartment building in the downtown core of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Located at 228 Notre Dame Avenue, it abuts Ellice Avenue and Garry Street, forming a mostly triangular floor plate. The structure was erected during Winnipeg's pre-World War I development boom.

The Winnipeg Walkway System, also known as the Winnipeg Skywalk, is a network of pedestrian skyways and tunnels connecting a significant portion of downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba. The City of Winnipeg described the Walkway as a system of 14 skyways and 7 tunnels connecting 38 buildings and allowing for a maximum protected walk of 2 km. The system also provides year-round climate-controlled access to over 170,000 m2 (42 acres) of space, including over 200 shops and businesses, 10 office complexes, 60 restaurants and snack bars, 700 apartment units, 2 hotels, 11 financial centres, and the Winnipeg Millennium Library, bringing together 21,000 employees. The walkway system has expanded since its initial construction.The Walkway is subdivided into four interconnected segments: its skyways chiefly cover Portage, Graham, and St. Mary Avenues; and its underground section includes Winnipeg Square and the underground Portage and Main concourse.It is open every day of the week, typically from 06:30 AM to 12:30 AM, though some individual building hours vary.

If Day (French: "Si un jour", "If one day") was a simulated Nazi German invasion and occupation of the Canadian city of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and surrounding areas on 19 February 1942, during the Second World War. It was organized as a war bond promotion by the Greater Winnipeg Victory Loan organization, which was led by prominent Winnipeg businessman J. D. Perrin. The event was the largest military exercise in Winnipeg to that point.If Day included a staged firefight between Canadian troops and volunteers dressed as German soldiers, the internment of prominent politicians, the imposition of Nazi rule, and a parade. The event was a fundraiser for the war effort: over $3 million was collected in Winnipeg on that day. Organizers believed that the fear induced by the event would help increase fundraising objectives. It was the subject of a 2006 documentary, and was included in Guy Maddin's film My Winnipeg.

The Richardson Building is a 34-storey office tower at the intersection of Portage and Main in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The building forms the anchor of the Lombard Place development, and is connected to Winnipeg Square shopping mall via the Portage and Main Concourse. The thirty-four storey building stands 124 metres tall (407 ft), making it the (behind 201 Portage and 300 main) third tallest building in Winnipeg. It is dressed in granite chip pre-cast concrete and solar bronze double-glazed glass.In 2011, the CBC moved its digital television transmitters for CBWT-DT and CBWFT-DT to the Richardson Building, on a new antenna that raised the pinnacle of the building to 151.8 metres (498 ft), once again making it the tallest structure in Winnipeg.
