Libberton

South Medwin is a river in the Lanarkshire region of Scotland. Along with the confluence of the North Medwin River it forms the Medwin water basin. The South Medwin flows westward to join the River Clyde a mile (1.5 km) south of Carnwath at a point called "The Meeting".

Bankhead railway station served the isolated settlement of Bankhead, east of Carstairs Junction in South Lanarkshire, Scotland from 1867 to 1945 on the Dolphinton branch.

Quothquan (also formerly spelled Couth-Boan, meaning "the beautiful hill"; Scottish Gaelic: A’ Choitcheann, pronounced [ə ˈxɔʰtʲçən̪ˠ], meaning "the common") is a village in Libberton parish, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is 3+1⁄4 miles (5.2 km) northwest of Biggar, and 7+1⁄2 miles (12.1 km) southeast of Lanark. To the southwest is the 1,098-foot (335 m) high hill Quothquan Law, topped by the remains of a hill fort. The hill comprises two elements, one is an enclosure to the southeast which is around 400 by 230 feet (120 by 70 m). The other is a lower larger annexe to the northwest, with double ramparts and a medial ditch which has mostly been filled in.

Shieldhill Castle is a category B listed building located near Biggar in South Lanarkshire. The building dates back to 1199 and is currently being run as Shieldhill Castle Hotel.

Carnwath (Gaelic: A' Chathair Nuadh; English: "New Fort") is a moorland village on the southern edge of the Pentland Hills of South Lanarkshire, Scotland. The village lies about 30 mi (50 km) south of both Edinburgh and Glasgow. It is bounded by the North Medwyn and South Medwyn watercourses.

Newbigging (Scots: Neebicken) is a hamlet in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is near Dunsyre at the southern end of the Pentland Hills. It is on the A72 Carnwath to Peebles road.

Carnwath railway station was located just west of the village of Carnwath, on the Caledonian Railway line between Carstairs railway station and Edinburgh. It was closed by in 1966 concurrently with the stations to the north Auchengray, Cobbinshaw, and Harburn.

Thankerton is a small village in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, United Kingdom. It is located between Biggar and Lanark, and situated between Quothquan Law and Tinto (two local hills). Thankerton's name derives from an early feudal lord called Thancard the Fleming, and means Thancard's enclosure. Ton is Old English for an enclosed settlement, and evolved into the modern English word town. Thancard was probably one of the Flemish knights who accompanied David I to Scotland to claim the Scottish throne and as such was rewarded with grants of land in Scotland. To the west of Thankerton is a hamlet called Eastend, on the south edge of the Carmichael Estate, whose main house, Eastend House, was used by the Polish Army between August 1940 and May 1941. A stone in the house, with the Polish eagle on it, commemorates the event.

Thankerton railway station served the village of Thankerton, South Lanarkshire, Scotland, from 1848 to 1965 on the Caledonian main line.

North Medwyn is a river in the Lanarkshire region of Scotland. Along with the confluence of the South Medwyn River it forms the Medwyn water basin. The North Medwyn is a tributary of the River Clyde.

The State Hospital (also known as Carstairs Hospital, or simply Carstairs) is a psychiatric hospital in the village of Carstairs, in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It provides care and treatment in conditions of high security for around 140 patients from Scotland and Northern Ireland. The hospital is managed by the State Hospitals Board for Scotland which is a public body accountable to the First Minister of Scotland through the Scottish Government Health and Social Care Directorates. It is a Special Health Board, part of the NHS Scotland and the only hospital of its kind within Scotland.
