It is a contributing property of the Savannah Historic District, itself on the National Register of Historic Places.In the mid-19th century, the property was documented by the Historic American Buildings Survey as being significant for its representation of mid-19th-century Savannah row houses, particularly due to its high stoops. Other similar-style row houses exist in Savannah's Gordon Row, the Jones Street Quantock Row, the Chatham Square Quantock Row, Scudder's Row, McDonough Row and Marshall Row. It was built for William Remshart (1804–1878), a prominent Savannah commission merchant.

Standing in the southwestern corner of Madison Square, it was constructed between 1913 and 1923, to a design by Hyman Witcover, previously the architect of Savannah City Hall. Today it is known as Gryphon, and is part of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).The land on which the building stands was purchased in November 1895. Eight years later, a general appeal was made to the masonic community for additional support in financing the construction of a masonic hall. The corner stone was laid on June 30, 1913, by Robert L. Colding, Grand Master of Masons in Georgia. The building's construction was completed a decade later and deeded to the Scottish Rite.SCAD purchased the property in 1981.In June 2019, the Masonic quarters were sold, and the Scottish Rite Masonic Center was moved to a new home on Chatham Center Drive.

St. John's Church in Savannah is a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Georgia. The church was formed in 1841 from the growing Christ Church, Savannah, as part of a plan to increase Episcopal presence in Georgia and to provide for a first bishop of the diocese. One of its founders was local businessman Edward Padelford. After his death in 1870, his name was added to one of the church's stained-glass windows. Eleven other windows are also dedicated to notable early members of the church.In addition to his Episcopal duties, the bishop would be rector of both St. John's and Christ Church. Stephen Elliott, Jr. was consecrated as Bishop of Georgia in February 1841. St. John's first building was consecrated in 1843. When the congregation outgrew this building, the construction was undertaken of the current building (which is situated in Madison Square, across from the historic Green-Meldrim House, now the church's parish house). The building was designed by Calvin N. Otis of Buffalo, New York, and was consecrated in May 1853. The Parish continues to use the 1928 Book of Common Prayer, as the basis for worship. St. John's maintains a cordial relationship with the Episcopal Diocese of Georgia, although the character of the congregation is more traditional than most of the parishes in The Episcopal Church (TEC). It is included in the Savannah Historic District.

The Hurn Museum is a museum on Monterey Square in Savannah, Georgia, United States, devoted to American folk art, as well as the work of international self-taught artists. The museum is named after the late Deborah Hurn, a local champion of folk art in Savannah. The museum was opened in November 2004 by the Sottile family. The museum was viewed as controversial because it rejected the handicraft definition of folk art in favour of fine art. "Fine art separated the decorative arts years ago. We have to do the same with folk art" said co-founder Michael Sottile.

As a college of Art and Design, the school offers a sports lineup unlike most colleges. Its Savannah location is one of the few colleges in the United States to offer a competitive equestrian program. SCAD Savannah previously sponsored basketball, but dropped the sport after the 2008–09 season.
