Tuska Open Air Metal Festival, commonly shortened to Tuska (Finnish: pain, agony), is a Finnish heavy metal festival taking place annually in Helsinki. The first Tuska took place in 1998 and the festival has since grown larger every year. The location of the festival has been in Kaisaniemi park in the middle of the city from 2001. However, since 2011, Tuska has taken place at the Suvilahti event field in the Kalasatama neighbourhood of the Sörnäinen district. The festival dates have always been in either June or July. In recent years the attendance has grown and the festival has drawn up to 43,000 people in 2019. In 2006, the festival was almost sold out and over a combined three-day total of 33,000 attendees arrived to watch 32 artists, including for example Anathema, Celtic Frost, Opeth, Sodom, Venom, and Finland's own Amorphis and Sonata Arctica. There were three stages in Tuska: Inferno, Sue, and the main stage, Radio Rock (Radio City until 2007). In 2019 these three stages are named Inferno, Helsinki and Radio Rock Main Stage.

Suvilahti (Swedish: Södervik) is a former energy production area in Sörnäinen, Helsinki. It encompasses nine buildings and two large gasometers. Construction of a steam turbine electrical power plant was completed in 1909 and a gas plant in 1910. The buildings were constructed using the then revolutionary steel-reinforced concrete method. The architect Selim A. Lindqvist was influenced by Viennese Jugend architecture. The power plant was closed in 1976 and gas production ended in 1994. Since 1 January 2008 the real estate company Kiinteistö Oy Kaapelitalo began developing, renting and maintaining the facilities. The facilities are being renovated for use by artists and other cultural activities. Suvilahti is already home for photography studios, artists, writers, production companies and advertising agencies. The large courtyard is used for outdoor events. Kiinteistö Oy Kaapelitalo is owned by the City of Helsinki. The company is also responsible for the facilities at Kaapelitehdas (Cable Factory) in Ruoholahti, Helsinki.

Elävän kuvan museo (Museum for Motion Pictures) was a museum dedicated to Finnish film culture located in Helsinki, Finland. The museum was operated by the National Audiovisual Institute. The institute's museum collections, which include over 10,000 objects, consist primarily of items related to film making from the 1930s to the present day, including filming and laboratory equipment, projectors, props, costumes, theatre tickets and film posters. The collection also includes material from the pre-cinema era, such as magic lanterns. The museum was located at Vanha talvitie 9 in Helsinki. Its dedicated exhibition space at that location was open from 2004 to June 2015.

The Helsinki Prison, also known as the Sörnäinen Prison (earlier known as Helsinki Central Prison) is a prison located in the Hermanninmäki district of Helsinki, Finland, opened in 1881. At the moment it is the only prison operating in Helsinki proper after the Katajanokka prison was converted to a hotel and its inmates transferred to a new prison in Vantaa, a suburban municipality.

Kalasatama metro station (Finnish: Kalasataman metroasema, Swedish: Fiskehamnens metrostation - "Fish Harbor") is a ground-level station on the Helsinki Metro, in the capital city of Finland. The station was opened on 1 January 2007, and it serves the eastern part of the central Helsinki district of Sörnäinen's quarter Kalasatama. The area is mainly composed of offices and apartments, with new residential and commercial developments being under construction in the area, including the shopping center Redi. The port facilities previously in the area were moved to Vuosaari Harbour in 2008. Unlike most other stations on the Helsinki Metro, Kalasatama was built while the metro was still running, which made construction difficult. Despite this, service was not greatly affected on either of the lines during the station's construction. Because the new platforms were built on either side of the existing metro track, Kalasatama is one of only two stations on the Helsinki Metro to have two separate side platforms. The other example of this layout on the Helsinki Metro is Itäkeskus metro station. Other metro stations have only singular island platforms. Kalasatama metro station is located 1.1 kilometres from Sörnäinen metro station, and 1.8 kilometres from Kulosaari metro station.

Hämeentie (Swedish: Tavastvägen) is the second longest street in Helsinki, Finland, and among its major thoroughfares. Hämeentie is a multi-lane street beginning at the Hakaniemi square in Siltasaari, and ending near Vanhankaupunginkoski on Koskelantie. Old streets were made into main roads in the 1850s, and the eastern one was named Itäinen Viertotie (Swedish: Östra Chaussén) from 1909 to 1928. It was one of Helsinki's main entryways, the other being Läntinen Viertotie (Swedish: Västra Chaussén), from 1942 named Mannerheimintie. True to its name, Hämeentie originally formed the starting part of a main road leading from Helsinki to Hämeenlinna, travelling through the districts of Viikki, Malmi (nowadays Kirkonkyläntie) and Hyrylä. There is fairly little personal car traffic on Hämeentie, because most of it has been directed to the Sörnäisten rantatie street running nearby. Hämeentie is an important route for public transport. Almost all local buses in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area towards Lahdenväylä and Tuusulanväylä run along it. Hämeentie also has tram traffic from Hakaniemi to Arabia, where the Helsinki tram line 6 turns from Arabiankatu to the right towards its endpoint, in front of the University of Art and Design on Kaj Franckin aukio. Near the start of Hämeentie, the tram lines 1(A) (Käpylä) and 3B/T (Alppila) turn to the left to Siltasaarenkatu (Linjat).

Nereidi (Finnish for "the nereid") is a sculpture by Hans-Christian Berg, located in the Kalasatama district in Helsinki, Finland. The seven-metre-tall sculpture is located at the southern end of the Kalasatamankatu street in front of the Redi shopping centre. The two-part sculpture consists of a concrete wave-shaped pedestal and a figure made of laser cut and painted aluminium plates. The nereids were mermaids in Greek mythology.The sculpture looks different depending on which direction it is viewed from. From afar it looks like it consists of lines, and viewed from the side it looks like a figure gazing off into the distance with its head tilted back. Hans-Christian Berg has used optical illusions in many of his works and made his works by combining different materials and building techniques. The sculpture Nereidi is made of parts ordered from all over Finland, connected by welding, riveting and screwing. The lights were installed last. Building the entire sculpture took four days.The shopping centre Redi, built by the construction company SRV, required artworks in its vicinity. An international contest was held in 2016, requiring entries to be of sufficient size in regard to the buildings and to express joy and cleverness. Artists submitted graffiti, ceramics, paintings, mobiles, a relief, light art and sculptures. The location of Nereidi was chosen by representatives of the architecture bureau Helin & Co who had designed the shopping centre and of the city of Helsinki. The chosen location was intended to become a meeting point. The sculpture was revealed on 2 June 2021.

Redi (Finnish: Kauppakeskus Redi; stylized as REDI) is a shopping centre in Kalasatama, Helsinki, Finland. With its gross leasable area of 64,000 square metres (690,000 sq ft), it is the eighth largest shopping centre in Finland.Redi was completed in September 2018. Redi was designed by architect Pekka Helin. The shopping center is part of the Redi complex, which includes the highest residential building in Finland, the 134-meter and 35-storey Majakka. The complex is estimated to cost over one billion euros.The shopping center is divided into two parts, named Stadi and Sköne. At the street level, the street Kalasatamankatu, running in north–south direction, demarcates the division. The Kalasatama metro station is located on the third floor of the center and is directly accessible from Redi.Redi's visitor amounts faded following the opening of the mall on September 20, 2018.

Sosiaalikeskus Satama (Harbor Social Center) was a social center in Helsinki, Finland, opened in April 2009 and evicted August 2011.

Sörnäinen (Swedish: Sörnäs; Sörkkä or Sörkka in Helsinki slang) is a neighbourhood in the city of Helsinki, Finland. Sörnäinen is located a little more than one kilometre north from the coastal centre of Helsinki, near the district of Hakaniemi. The east side of Sörnäinen borders the sea. Sörnäinen used to be primarily an industrial district with many shipping companies and warehouses, however, nowadays it is a thriving urban area divided into four districts: Vilhonvuori, Kalasatama, Sompasaari and Hanasaari. It also has two metro stations: Sörnäinen metro station and Kalasatama metro station in the Kalasatama quarter. The headquarters of Senate Properties (Senaatti-kiinteistöt) is located in Sörnäinen. Also the Helsinki Prison located there.

Majakka (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈmɑjɑkːɑ]; lit. 'lighthouse') is a high-rise building in Kalasatama, Helsinki. It is the tallest building in Finland. The tower is 134 metres (440 ft) tall, making it the tallest building in Finland. It is divided into 35 floors, and contains 283 residences. The 5th floor has a garden open to the public. The tower is conjoined with the Redi shopping centre and the Kalasatama metro station. The complex will include 7 other residential towers, as well as a hotel and offices. After delays related to water damage, the first tenants moved in on November 25th, 2019.

The Kalasatama Health Station is a service centre for health and social services in the Kalasatama neighbourhood of the Sörnäinen district in Helsinki, Finland. It is located about 200 metres to the east-northeast of the Kalasatama metro station.The Kalasatama Health Station started operations on 5 February 2018. The health stations in Herttoniemi, Kallio and Vallila closed down three days before this and their clients were directed to Kalasatama.In its first months of operation, the Kalasatama Health Station received criticism about its transport connections, the design of its premises including the omission of an X-ray facility and lack of sunlight in its offices, the small amount of time doctors had for their clients, shortage of accessories in reception rooms and the way the Pepper service robot in the lobby kept talking to itself. The staff did not have reception rooms of their own, so some of the doctors had to move their principal tools into whichever office they had to use in a suitcase. Some changes have already been made to the activity of the health station based on the criticism and further action was sought for the problems during late 2018.The sculpture Mobile E & W (2018) by artist Jenni Rope hangs from the ceiling of the lobby of the Kalasatama Health Station. The artwork is divided between two adjacent lobby rooms and is said to be the largest mobile sculpture in Finland.
