Hemsworth is a town and civil parish in the City of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. Historically within the West Riding of Yorkshire and had a population of 13,311 at the 2001 census, with it increasing to 13,533 at the 2011 Census.

Outwood Academy Hemsworth, known previously as Hemsworth Arts and Community Academy and Hemsworth Arts and Community College, is a mixed secondary school and sixth form located in Hemsworth in the City of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England.The school is operated by Outwood Grange Academies Trust, and the principal Toby Rutter.

Hemsworth is a constituency in West Yorkshire represented in the House of Commons since 1996 by Jon Trickett of the Labour Party.Further to the completion of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, the seat will be subject to moderate boundary changes, losing the Wakefield South ward and gaining Normanton. Accordingly, it will be renamed Normanton and Hemsworth, to be first contested at the next general election.

Oakfield Park School (formerly OakTree School) is a coeducational special school in Ackworth, West Yorkshire, England.In early 2000s Oakfield Tree School was renamed into Oakfield Park School On 5 September 2017 new classrooms were opened, and to communicate with new and ongoing students (though kept a ongoing students) a Blu-ray Disc system was installed in some classrooms. The village planned to open an Ackworth FM studio and launch the station by 2019 next to the Oakfield Park School on the left side of the tennis court. This failed due to the station going into administration, and the station license was not awarded by Ofcom. The building was demolished.

Its neighbouring villages are Fitzwilliam to the north, to which it is conjoined, and Hemsworth to the south-east. The village is on the B6273 Wakefield Road, and approximately 7 miles (11 km) from Wakefield to the north-west and a similar distance from the towns of Pontefract and Castleford to the north. The M1 motorway is 8 miles (13 km) to the west, and the M62, 6 miles (10 km) to the north. A railway station at Fitzwilliam gives access to Wakefield, Leeds, Doncaster and Sheffield.

It has four parts: High Ackworth, Low Ackworth, Ackworth Moor Top, and Brackenhill. The 2001 census gave it a population of 6,493, which rose to 7,049 at the 2011 census. There is also a city ward called Ackworth, North Elmsall and Upton, with a 2011 census population of 16,099.

The parish and town council are made up of the town of South Kirkby and the village of Moorthorpe. As of 2009 the parish had a population of 10,979, increasing to 11,105 at the 2011 Census.
