Pendle Water

Pendle Hill is in the east of Lancashire, England, near the towns of Burnley, Nelson, Colne, Brierfield, Clitheroe and Padiham. Its summit is 557 metres (1,827 ft) above mean sea level. It gives its name to the Borough of Pendle. It is an isolated hill in the Pennines, separated from the South Pennines to the east, the Bowland Fells to the northwest, and the West Pennine Moors to the south. It is included in a detached part of the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Upper and Lower Ogden Reservoirs are half a mile to the west of the village of Barley, in the Borough of Pendle, England. They supply drinking water to the town of Nelson.Three forests covering more than 23 hectares (57 acres) can be found close to the reservoirs. Fell Wood, which is the largest, was planted in 1931 and contains Norway Spruce (Picea abies), Sitka Spruce (Picea sitchensis), Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris) and European Larch (Larix decidua). Blue Wood, which was originally planted in 1935 with Scots Pine, Sitka Spruce and Larch was felled and replanted in 1981. The third forest: Buttock Plantation, was planted in 1935 with Sitka Spruce and Larch.

It has a population of 298, and contains the village of Barley and the hamlet of White Hough or Whitehough (53.859°N 2.257°W / 53.859; -2.257 (White Hough)). To the west of Barley is Pendle Hill; its summit, at 557 metres (1,827 ft), is within the parish. The parish adjoins the Pendle parishes of Blacko, Roughlee Booth and Goldshaw Booth and the Ribble Valley parishes of Sabden, Mearley, Worston, Downham and Twiston. It is part of the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).Barley-with-Wheatley Booth was once a township in the ancient parish of Whalley. This became a civil parish in 1866, forming part of the Burnley Rural District from 1894.Along with Higham-with-West Close Booth, Goldshaw Booth and Roughlee Booth, the parish forms the Higham with Pendleside ward of Pendle Borough Council.According to the United Kingdom Census 2011, the parish has a population of 298, an increase from 271 in the 2001 census.

Downham is a village and civil parish in Lancashire, England. It is in the Ribble Valley district and at the United Kingdom 2001 census had a population of 156. The 2011 Census includes neighbouring Twiston giving a total for both parishes of 214. The village is on the north side of Pendle Hill off the A59 road about 3 miles (4.8 km) from Clitheroe. Much of the parish, including the village is part of the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). It adjoins the Ribble Valley parishes of Rimington, Twiston, Worston, Chatburn and Sawley, and the Pendle parish of Barley-with-Wheatley Booth.

Twiston is a village and a civil parish in the Ribble Valley District, in the English county of Lancashire. It is near the town of Clitheroe and the village of Downham (in whose parish the population of Twiston is now included). The parish is part of the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). It adjoins the Ribble Valley parishes of Downham and Rimington, and the Pendle parish of Barley-with-Wheatley Booth. Twiston was once a township in the ancient parish of Whalley. This became a civil parish in 1866, forming part of the Clitheroe Rural District from 1894 till 1974.Along with Chatburn and Downham, the parish makes up the Chatburn ward of Ribble Valley Borough Council.

Barley is a village in the borough of Pendle, in Lancashire, England. It is in the civil parish of Barley-with-Wheatley Booth. The village lies between Black Moss Reservoirs and Ogden Reservoirs, and is within the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).The hamlet of Barley Green is immediately southwest of the village. The village is close to Pendle Hill, and is a popular starting point for walkers of this hill. The circular Pendle Way long-distance trail passes through here. There is a children's playground by the stream. There is also a substantial 1920s public house, The Pendle Inn, and a restaurant, The Barley Mow. It has won the small village category in 1996 and the hamlet category of the Lancashire Best Kept Village competition in 2008 and 2009.

St Leonard's Church is in the village of Downham, Lancashire, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the diocese of Blackburn. The tower dates from the 15th century, and the rest of the church was rebuilt in 1909–10. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building.

It has a population of 248, and contains the village of Newchurch in Pendle and the hamlets of Spen Brook (53.846°N 2.267°W / 53.846; -2.267 (Spen Brook)) and Sabden Fold (53.841°N 2.290°W / 53.841; -2.290 (Sabden Fold)). Pendle Hill lies to the north. The parish adjoins the Pendle parishes of Barley-with-Wheatley Booth, Roughlee Booth, Old Laund Booth and Higham-with-West Close Booth and the Ribble Valley parish of Sabden. It is part of the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).According to the United Kingdom Census 2011, the parish has a population of 248, a decrease from 265 in the 2001 census.Goldshaw Booth was once a township in the ancient parish of Whalley. This became a civil parish in 1866, forming part of the Burnley Rural District from 1894. The township extended to cover parts of the adjoining villages of Fence and Wheatley Lane, but this part transferred to Old Laund Booth in 1898. Parts of the parish also transferred to Sabden on its creation in 1904, and Newchurch in Pendle also used to straddle the boundary with Roughlee Booth but was brought entirely within the parish in 1935.Along with Higham-with-West Close Booth, Barley-with-Wheatley Booth and Roughlee Booth, the parish forms the Higham with Pendleside ward of Pendle Borough Council.

Newchurch in Pendle is a village in the civil parish of Goldshaw Booth, Pendle, Lancashire, England, adjacent to Barley, to the south of Pendle Hill. It was formerly part of Roughlee Booth until it's transferral in 1935.

Sabden is a village and civil parish in the Ribble Valley, Lancashire, England. Sabden is located south of Pendle Hill, in a valley about three miles north west of Padiham. The parish covers 2,450.9 acres (991.85 ha), of which 103.2 acres (41.75 ha) is occupied by the village. It lies in the Forest of Pendle section of the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
