Yamamiya Sengen Shrine

The district covered the entire area of the city of Fujinomiya and parts of the city of Fuji. Until the day before the dissolution, the district had only one town. town of Shibakawa(芝川町; -chō)

The Fujisan Hongū Sengen Taisha (富士山本宮浅間大社) is a Shintō shrine in the city of Fujinomiya in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. It is the ichinomiya of former Suruga Province, and is the head shrine of the approximately 1300 Asama or Sengen shrines in the country. The shrine has an extensive location within downtown Fujinomiya; in addition, the entire top of Mount Fuji from the 8th stage upwards is considered to be part of the shrine grounds.The main festival of the shrine is held annually on May 5, and features yabusame performances.In 2013, the shrine was added to the World Heritage List as part of the Fujisan Cultural Site.It is similar to Chōkaisan Ōmonoimi Shrine at Mount Chōkai

As of 1 July 2019, the city had an estimated population of 132,507 in 56,655 households, and a population density of 340 persons per km². The total area of the city is 388.99 square kilometres (150.19 sq mi).

Tahō Fuji Dainichirenge-san Taiseki-ji (多宝富士大日蓮華山 大石寺), more commonly just Sōhonzan Taiseki-ji (総本山大石寺), informally known as Head Temple Taiseki-ji (大石寺), is the administrative center of Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism. It is located in the foothills of Mount Fuji in Kamijo, Fujinomiya, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. Taiseki-ji was founded in 1290 by Nikkō Shōnin, one of Nichiren Daishonin's senior disciples, on a land parcel donated by the pious believer Daigyo Sonrei, commonly known as Nanjo Tokimitsu (1259–1332).The Head Temple is the home of the Dai Gohonzon, Nichiren Shoshu's object of worship, which draws pilgrim believers from various countries. The temple's open grounds are open to the public for sightseeing, though its religious buildings are restricted only to registered believers. Accordingly, adherents of the Soka Gakkai are not permitted entrance to the Head Temple grounds.

The 2011 Shizuoka earthquake (静岡県東部地震, Shizuoka-ken tо̄bu jishin) occurred approximately 42 km (26 mi) north-northeast of Shizuoka City at 22:31 JST, 15 March 2011. The magnitude was Mw  6.0 or MJMA  6.4, and the depth was 9 km (5.6 mi). The hypocenter of this earthquake is thought to have been near the presumed location of the magma chamber of Mount Fuji. It may have been a triggered earthquake caused by the Tohoku earthquake, which occurred four days earlier, on 11 March 2011. It was sinistral strike-slip fault earthquake. It had a maximum JMA intensity of Shindo 6+ (Fujinomiya) or VIII (Severe) on the Mercalli intensity scale. The earthquake left 80 people injured, and caused some power outages.
