Waterton, Colorado

The Platte Canyon is a deep, narrow, scenic gorge on the South Platte River in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The canyon is southwest of Denver on the border between Jefferson and Douglas counties. The canyon is at the entrance to the mountains, where the South Platte emerges through the Rampart Range through the hogbacks onto Eastern Plains. The lower narrow section is sometimes called Waterton Canyon, referring to Waterton, Colorado.

The High Line Canal (HLC) is a man-made waterway, used for irrigation and recreation, that serves the Denver-Aurora metropolitan area. It begins at a diversion dam on the South Platte River, some 1.8 miles (2.9 km) above the mouth of Waterton Canyon. From its headgate, the HLC runs generally northeast for 66 miles (106 km) (historically 71 miles), passing through Douglas, Arapahoe, Denver, and Adams Counties.

Sterling Ranch is an unincorporated community and a census-designated place (CDP) located in and governed by Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,789 at the 2020 census. The CDP is a part of the Denver–Aurora–Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Douglas County governs the unincorporated community and the Sterling Ranch Community Authority Board provides services through several metropolitan districts. The Littleton post office (Zip Code 80125) serves the area.

Roxborough Park is an unincorporated community and a census-designated place (CDP) located in and governed by Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The CDP is a part of the Denver–Aurora–Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population of the Roxborough Park CDP was 9,416 at the United States Census 2020. The Roxborough Village Metropolitan District and the Roxborough Water and Sanitation District provide services. The Littleton post office (Zip Code 80125) serves the area.

Chatfield State Park is a state park located in Douglas and Jefferson counties of Colorado, United States. The park centers on Chatfield Reservoir, a 1,423 acre surface area lake fed by the South Platte River and two other creeks, including Plum Creek.

Chatfield Dam and Reservoir is a dam and artificial lake located on the South Platte River, south of Littleton, Colorado. The dam and reservoir were built by the United States Army Corps of Engineers as a response to the disastrous flood of 1965. In addition to its primary purpose of flood control, it serves as one of many water supply reservoirs for the city of Denver, Colorado. In 1966, the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission projected a total federal cost of $74 million. Construction of the project was begun in 1967 and the dam was completed in 1975. The massive breastworks of the dam measure approximately 13,136 feet (4,004 m) in length with a maximum height of the dam of 135 feet (41 m) above the streambed. The normal depth of the lake is 59 feet (18 m) at its deepest point. This means the dam towers 88 feet (27 m) above the mean surface of the reservoir. The lake drains an area of more than 3,000 square miles (8,000 km2). The 1,500 acre (6 km2) lake has a conservation storage capacity of 27,000 acre⋅ft (0.033 km3) with a flood-control pool of over 350,000 acre⋅ft (0.43 km3)

Hildebrand Ranch is located near Littleton, Colorado. In 1866 Frank and Elizabeth Hildebrand settled in Deer Creek and homesteaded on 160 acres. In the 1950s there was a plan that was authorized to control flooding in Denver but the funds never came. In 1971 the Army condemned 333.73 acres of the ranch and created Chatfield Reservoir. In March 1973 Denver leased 750 acres from Chatfield and 67 for the Denver Botanic Gardens which included the ranch's original buildings. In February 2001 Jefferson County Open Space purchased 1,450 acres of Hildebrand Ranch

Roxborough State Park is a state park of Colorado, United States, known for dramatic red sandstone formations. Located in Douglas County 20 miles (32 km) south of Denver, Colorado, the 3,339-acre (13.51 km2) park was established in 1975. In 1980 it was recognized as a National Natural Landmark.

Acequia is an unincorporated community located in Douglas County, Colorado, United States.

Plum Creek is a stream in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. It is formed by the confluence of West Plum Creek and East Plum Creek near the intersection of North Perry Park Road and Manhart Avenue in Sedalia. Prior to the construction of Chatfield Reservoir in the 1960s and 1970s, Plum Creek merged with the South Platte River in far northern Douglas County. Now, however, it empties into the southern side of the reservoir itself, just west of Santa Fe Drive and within the boundaries of Chatfield State Park. The Chatfield Storage Reallocation Project, scheduled to start in fall, 2017, will add capacity to Chatfield Reservoir and raise its level about 12 feet. This higher reservoir level will cause the mouth of the creek to move about 7,000 feet further upstream. As part of the expansion project, a mitigation project will also be undertaken to deal with increased sediment deposition and channel erosion along Plum Creek caused by increased urban runoff.

Collegiate Academy of Colorado is a small charter school located in the Ken Caryl area of unincorporated Jefferson County, Colorado, United States. It is a kindergarten through twelfth grade charter school with approximately 480 students (2009–10 enrollment). The school has a postal address of 8420 S. Sangre de Cristo Road, Littleton, Colorado, 80127. It opened in 1994. The school has its own athletic field which it rents out for other uses. It has a gym, a cafeteria, and a playground. Its mascot is a wolf, and the school colors are crimson and dark green.

The Louviers Village Club, in Louviers, Colorado, was built in 1917 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.It was built by E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company to serve as a community building in the company town of Louviers. It is a U-shaped building, built in Craftsman style. It was deemed significant for NRHP listing "for its association with the explosive industry's contribution to the development of the West, social history as illustrated by the company town movement, and for the information it provides regarding entertainment and recreation in the early Twentieth Century. During the Nineteenth and early Twentieth Centuries, E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company pioneered the development and manufacture of explosives in the United States. Business was brisk for the Du Pont Powder Company by the early Twentieth Century, when dynamite products were in great demand for use in mining and in railroad, tunnel and road construction. Du Pont, the nation's leading supplier of explosives at the time, was unable to fill all of the orders for its products. In order to expand its production capabilities, Du Pont sought new sites for the establishment of explosives plants. The company was particularly desirous of locating a plant in the Rocky Mountain region due to the fact that there were then no sources for explosives closer than the West Coast or the Mississippi River. In 1906, Du Pont procured a site on Plum Creek adjacent to the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad line. First called "Toluca" after a station on the line, the name was quickly changed to "Louviers" after the ancestral home in France of the DuvPont family. Dynamite production at Louviers began in 1908, with over a half million pounds produced the first year. By 1951, "Louviers Works", as the plant was called, produced over two million pounds of dynamite per month and employed 230 workers. In 1971, after the production of an estimated one billion pounds of dynamite, the company shifted emphasis to production of PETN and a new emulsion explosive product. Operations at the plant ceased in the early 1980s. The plant facilities were extensively modified over time in keeping with technological advances, and are still maintained by Du Pont on a care taking basis. Du Pont retains ownership of the majority of land immediately surrounding the town of Louviers."
