Mapocho River

Laguna Carén is a lagoon and wetland located in the commune of Pudahuel, Santiago Province, Santiago Metropolitan Region, Chile. The lagoon obtained its name from the Mapuche term karv we, meaning "green place".

Pudahuel (Spanish pronunciation: [puðaˈwel], Mapudungun "place of pools/water" or "place where seagulls gather") is a commune of Chile located in Santiago Province, Santiago Metropolitan Region. Santiago's international airport Comodoro Arturo Merino Benítez is located there.

Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport (IATA: SCL, ICAO: SCEL), also known as Santiago International Airport and Nuevo Pudahuel Airport, located in Pudahuel, 15 km (9.3 mi) north-west of central Santiago, is Chile's largest aviation facility and busiest international airport. The airport has domestic and international services to destinations in Europe, Oceania, Africa (cargo only), Asia and the Americas. In 2011, it was the ninth busiest airport in Latin America and the sixth busiest in South America by passenger traffic. It was the seventh busiest airport in Latin America by aircraft movements, serving 124,799 operations. Its location in Chile's most populated area, as well as in the central part of the country, makes it an ideal main hub and maintenance center for most local airlines such as LATAM and Sky Airline. LATAM Airlines accounts for approximately 82% of the airport's total commercial operations. The airport is owned by the Chilean government and has been operated since October 2015 by Nuevo Pudahuel, a consortium of companies formed by Aéroports de Paris (France), Vinci Airports (France) and Astaldi (Italy). Air traffic control is handled by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. Its ICAO category is 4F. The airport functions as a joint civil-military facility. It is the headquarters of the Chilean Air Force 2nd Air Brigade and where its 10th Aviation Group is based. Santiago International is the longest non-stop destination for most European carriers including Iberia, Air France, and British Airways from their respective hubs in Madrid–Barajas Airport, Paris–Charles de Gaulle, and London–Heathrow Airport. The airport is also Latin America's main gateway to Oceania, with scheduled flights to Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, and Easter Island.

The Battle of Maipú (Spanish: Batalla de Maipú) was a battle fought near Santiago, Chile on April 5, 1818, between South American rebels and Spanish royalists, during the Chilean War of Independence. The Patriot rebels led by Argentine general José de San Martín effectively destroyed the Spanish forces commanded by General Mariano Osorio, and completed the independence of the core area of Chile from Spanish domination.

Pudahuel is a rapid transit station on the Line 5. It is located underneath the junction of San Pablo Avenue and Teniente Cruz Avenue, underneath the border of Pudahuel and Lo Prado. The station was opened on January 12, 2010 by president Michelle Bachelet, as part of the lLine's extension from Quinta Normal to Pudahuel, and was the Line's western terminus until 3 February 2011 when the line was extended southwest towards Plaza de Maipú.In the surrounding area can be found the Pudahuel municipality building, a supermarket, a share taxis stop and several bus stops. After Pudahuel, Line 5 makes an abrupt turn to the southwest towards Maipú, right under the commune hall. This bend can be seen from the platform (see the photo gallery).

Del Sol is a metro station on the Line 5 of the Santiago Metro, in Santiago, Chile. The station is named for the nearby Autopista del Sol. The station was opened on 3 February 2011 as part of the extension of the line from Pudahuel to Plaza de Maipú.At 17 metres (56 ft) below the surface, the lower level of the station has two side platforms and two tracks, and above these there is a full-length mezzanine. The platforms are 170 m (560 ft) in length. Large rectangular pillars support the upper levels. The station features a caterpillar-shaped street-level bus area, which is covered by a fiberglass-reinforced PVC fabric membrane roof. It is 120 m (390 ft) long and 25 m (82 ft) wide.

Barrancas is an underground metro station on Line 5 of the Santiago Metro network in Santiago, Chile. It is located underneath the junction of Teniente Cruz Avenue and General Bonilla Avenue on the border of the communes of Pudahuel and Lo Prado, between Laguna Sur station (1140 meters away) and Pudahuel station (990 meters away). It also lies parallel to the Route 68 highway which connects Santiago with Valparaíso and Viña del Mar, and the highway crosses over the underground metro line. The station has disabled access.The station was opened on 3 February 2011 as part of the extension of the line from Pudahuel to Plaza de Maipú.

Santiago Bueras is an underground metro station on the Line 5 of the Santiago Metro, in Santiago, Chile. It is named after Santiago Bueras, a soldier shot dead at the Battle of Maipú. The station was opened on 3 February 2011 as part of the extension of the line from Pudahuel to Plaza de Maipú.The station consists of a mined platform tunnel and transept, as well as a cut-and-cover shaft. There is an inverted pyramid roof over the paid area of the street-level ticket hall, which features V-shaped pillars and glazed walls.

Monte Tabor is a metro station on the Line 5 of the Santiago Metro, in Santiago, Chile. The station was opened on 3 February 2011 as part of the extension of the line from Pudahuel to Plaza de Maipú. It is one of the three stations built on a viaduct on the just mentioned extension. The platforms and tracks are enclosed by a steel-framed structure. The portal frames are rectangular in shape with rounded corners and have different heights, which creates an undulating pattern along the platforms lengthwise. The structure base is overlapped by an arched tensile membrane structure. This portion of the station is laterally covered with sandwich-structured composite panels of aluminum. The station features a double decker skyway, which connects the platforms to a cylindrical building. The walkway on the lower deck leads to the westbound platform, while the higher walkway crosses over the tracks and connects with the eastbound platform via two stairways and a two-stop elevator.

Laguna Sur station is an underground metro station on the Line 5 of Santiago Metro network, in Santiago, Chile. It is located underneath the junction of Teniente Cruz Avenue with Laguna Sur Street, in the commune of Pudahuel between Las Parcelas station (1,140 meters away) and Barrancas station (1,140 meters away).The station was opened on 3 February 2011 as part of the extension of the line from Pudahuel to Plaza de Maipú. It is one of three stations on the elevated viaduct extension of the line to Maipú. The station structure consists of two parts: the platforms, located on an elevated viaduct, and the ticket office and entrance points on the Teniente Cruz Avenue / Laguna Sur Street junction. The platforms and ticket office are linked by a footbridge over Teniente Cruz Avenue.The surrounding area is mainly residential,

Las Parcelas is a metro station on the Line 5 of the Santiago Metro, in Santiago, Chile. The station was opened on 3 February 2011 as part of the extension of the line from Pudahuel to Plaza de Maipú. It is one of the three stations built on a viaduct on the expansion. Maipú is a commune of Chile located in Santiago Province, Santiago Metropolitan Region, integrated into the Greater Santiago conurbation. It was founded on February 16, 1821 and it is the place of the Battle of Maipú (April 5, 1818), where Chile's independence was consolidated. Inhabitants are mostly part of a middle class. According to the 2017 census, Maipú was the second largest commune in Chile, behind Puente Alto.
