Yazd University (YU, Persian: دانشگاه یزد, Daneshgah-e Yazd) is a public research university in Yazd, Iran. It is a major state-funded research center in central Iran and the academic center of Yazd province and was the first comprehensive institute of higher education established after the 1979 Islamic revolution. It is also the principal heir to the former University College Yazd (Persian: دانشسرای عالی یزد). Yazd University is considered to be among the top 10 comprehensive universities in Iran and it is among 200 best world's young universities. The university was founded in 1989 by a merger of several older institutions and grew rapidly over the years. Its main campus is located in Safaeeyeh. There are four other campuses and two autonomous schools, all located within or in the vicinity of the city of Yazd. Yazd University offers BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in more than 40 fields through its 29 departments and is home to more than 14,000 students.

The Atabegs of Yazd (Persian: اتابکان یزد, Atābakān-e Yazd) were a local dynasty that ruled the city of Yazd from approximately 1141 to 1319. They succeeded the Kakuyids, to whom they were linked by marriage.

Fajr Rural District (Persian: دهستان فجر) is in the Central District of Yazd County, Yazd province, Iran. Its capital is the village of Shahneh. The previous capital of the rural district was the village of Kheyrabad.

Yazd (Persian: یزد; [jæzd] ) is a city in the Central District of Yazd County, Yazd province, Iran, serving as capital of the province, the county, and the district. At the 2016 census, its population was 529,673. Since 2017, the historical city of Yazd is recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Because of generations of adaptations to its desert surroundings, Yazd is known for its Persian architecture. It is nicknamed the "City of Windcatchers" (شهر بادگیرها Shahr-e Badgirha) from its many examples. It is also very well known for its Zoroastrian fire temples, ab anbars (cisterns), qanats (underground channels), yakhchals (coolers), Persian handicrafts, handwoven cloth (Persian termeh), silk weaving, Persian cotton candy, and its time-honored confectioneries. Yazd is also known as City of Bicycles, because of its early adoption of cycling, and its boasting the highest number of bicycles per capita in Iran. It is reported that bicycle culture in Iran originated in Yazd as a result of contact with European visitors and tourists in the nineteenth century.

The Markar Clock Tower also known as Borj-e Sa'at-e Markar (Persian: برج ساعت مارکار) is a historic clock tower in Yazd, Iran. It is located on the geographic centre of Iran.

Iranshahr High School (Persian: دبیرستان ایرانشهر) is a historic public high school in Yazd, Iran. It was founded in 1928 and holds the distinction of being the first public high school established in the city.

The Amir Chakhmaq Mosque (Persian: مسجد امیرچخماق, romanized: Masjed Mir Chakhmagh; Arabic: مسجد أمير جقماق), also known as the Dahouk Mosque (Persian: مسجد دهوک) and the Jāmeh Nou Mosque, is a Shi'ite mosque located adjacent to the Amir Chaghmagh Square, in the city of Yazd, in the province of Yazd, Iran.

The Amir Chakhmaq Complex (Persian: مجموعه میدان امیرچخماق, romanized: Majmūʿa Meydân Amir Čaqmaq) is a prominent structure in Yazd, Iran, noted for its symmetrical sunken alcoves. It is a mosque located on a square of the same name. It also contains a caravanserai, a tekyeh, a bathhouse, a cold water well, and a confectionery. At night, the building is lit up after twilight hours after sun set with orange lighting in the arched alcoves which makes it a spectacle. During the Iran–Iraq War and the Iraq wars with the United States and Afghanistan, many Iraqis and Afghanis came to inhabit the Amir Chakhmaq Square.

Gol Gran Rig (Persian: گل گران ريگ, also Romanized as Gol Grān Rīg) is a village in Gavkan Rural District, in the Central District of Rigan County, Kerman Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 69, in 12 families.
