The Academy (Ancient Greek: Ἀκαδημία, romanized: Akademía) was founded by Plato in c. 387 BC in Athens. Aristotle studied there for twenty years (367–347 BC) before founding his own school, the Lyceum. The Academy persisted throughout the Hellenistic period as a skeptical school, until coming to an end after the death of Philo of Larissa in 83 BC. The Platonic Academy was destroyed by the Roman dictator Sulla in 86 BC.

Kolonos (Greek: Κολωνός, pronounced [ko.loˈnos]) is a densely populated working-class district of Athens. It is named after the ancient deme, Hippeios Colonus. The district hosts a multi-year football club, Attikos F.C., that was founded in 1919.

Eiresidae or Eiresidai (Ancient Greek: Εἰρεσίδαι) was a deme of ancient Attica, west or southwest of Cephisia, and adjacent to Iphistiadae.The site of Eiresidae is located west of modern Kolonos.

The Greek Public Tobacco Factory at 218 Lenormann Street, in the area of Kolonos, was the second public tobacco factory in Athens, Greece, built by the Greek State at the time when the cigarette manufacturing industry was booming, in order to house the tobacco processing and packaging companies as well as the tobacco traders' warehouses, with the main purpose of fully controlling tobacco taxation. In its heyday it employed around 3000 workers.

Butadae or Boutadai (Ancient Greek: Βουτάδαι) was a deme of ancient Attica.

Profitis Daniil (Greek: Προφήτης Δανιήλ pronounced [pɾoˈfi.tis ðaniˈil]) meaning 'Prophet Daniel' is a neighborhood of Athens, Greece. It takes its name from the main church on Athinon Avenue.

Skouze Hill (Greek: Λόφος Σκουζέ, pronounced [ˈlofos sku'ze]) is a hill located in Athens, Greece. It is also the name of a small neighbourhood surrounding the hill. In Antiquity, it was dedicated to and named after "Demeter Euchloös". Before the revolution of 1821 however, the Skouze family owned large properties in the area, which was consequently named after it.

The First Siege of the Acropolis in 1821–1822 involved the siege of the Acropolis of Athens by the Greek revolutionary forces, during the early stages of the Greek War of Independence. Following the outbreak of the Greek uprising against the Ottoman Empire in March 1821, Athens fell into Greek hands on 28 April without a fight. Its garrison and Muslim inhabitants, along with the Greek population's leaders as hostages, retired to the Acropolis, which served as the garrison commander's residence. The initial Greek force, some 600 Athenians led by Meletios Vasileiou, was soon augmented by volunteers from Aegina, Hydra, Cephallonia and Kea to ca. 3,000, and maintained a loose siege of the fortified hill. A handful of Ottoman soldiers managed to break through the siege, and went to Karystos in Euboea to request the aid of the local governor, Omar Bey, and of the general Omer Vrioni. The two Ottoman leaders united their forces and descended on Attica. The Greek rebels scattered before them, and the Ottoman forces entered Athens on 20 July. Vrioni remained in Attica to pursue the Greek forces, while Omar of Karystos returned to his home province. After Vrioni's departure, however, the siege recommenced. In spring 1822, the Greek forces were reinforced with artillery commanded by French Philhellenes, under Olivier Voutier, who began a bombardment of the fortress. The Ottoman garrison surrendered on 9 June 1822 (O.S.).

The Peloponnese Railway Station (Greek: Σταθμός Πελοποννήσου, romanized: Stathmos Peloponnisou) was a station on the Piraeus, Athens and Peloponnese Railways (SPAP) metre gauge line in Athens. Originally opened on 30 June 1884 it was the first railway terminal in the Greek capital. In 1904, a very short distance from the Peloponnese Station, the "Larissa Station" was inaugurated, the original owner of which was the Hellenic State Railways (SEK), which served trains to and from northern Greece. The station closed in 2005.

Kolokynthou (Greek: Κολοκυνθού pronounced [ko.lo.cinˈθu]) is a neighborhood of Athens, Greece. In the past, in this area there were farms and gardens. The neighbourhood's name likely relates with the Greek word kolokythi ("zucchini") that was ordinary in the gardens. Today this area is an industrial zone between Colonus and Peristeri.

Athens railway station (Greek: Σιδηροδρομικός Σταθμός Αθηνών, romanized: Sidirodromikos Stathmos Athinon) is the main railway station of Athens, and the second largest station in Greece. Located in the central quarter of Kolonos, the railway station resulted from the merger of two separate railway terminals in 2005—Larissa station (Σταθμός Λαρίσης, Stathmos Larisis) of the Piraeus–Platy railway towards central and northern Greece, and the Peloponnese station (Σταθμός Πελοποννήσου, Stathmos Peloponnisou) of the Piraeus–Patras railway that formerly linked Athens with the Peloponnese. The station is still colloquially known as Larissa Station, and is also the name of the adjacent Athens Metro station.

Sepolia (Greek: Σεπόλια) is a station on Athens Metro Line 2. It was named after the neighbourhood Sepolia, where it is located. It opened on 28 January 2000 and served as the original northern terminus of Line 2 until Agios Antonios opened in August 2004.
